What a past few days I've had!! Thursday night I had to rush Kayla to the hospital. She started shaking uncontrollably and she threw up a couple of times. Well when we got there they tested her blood sugar and it was slightly high. So the ER doctor told us that they were going to transfer her to the local trauma center which has a good pediatric endocrinology unit.

So around 4 in the morning Kayla and I are in the back of an ambulance heading for the other hospital.

Her initial diagnosis is type 1 diabetes. Accompanied by anxiety attacks. As of this morning the aren't so sure about the diabetes thing. Her AI-C score was perfect. So we came home today and are treating her for mild diabetes until we get more test results back. Which means I have to give her an insulin shot every morning. It's so not fun. :worried:

So since Thursday I've had about 3 hours of sleep. So I apologize if this post isn't too coherent. I just wanted to update you all.

I'll post more tomorrow when I wake up!!
Kim

kimba - What a terrible time for ya'll!! Please keep us posted on Kayla! How long will it be before all the test results are back?

sandy - James & I have been walking together. Jim has been working out when he is at the station. I am trying to stay positive & not think of this as a diet, but just making better lifestyle choices!

Kevin and I had a fabulous anniversary weekend!!!!! :goodvibes

We went to downtown Chicago early, by about 1pm, and we walked around and shopped until approx. 3:30pm (got the kids some new things to wear at TDS:) ). We then checked into our hotel room at The Hyatt Regency and we had an awesome room on the 25th floor - it overlooked The Chicago River and we had a direct look at The John Hancock building. We rushed to change and freshen up because we had to get to our dinner reservations at The Chicago Chop House. After dinner, we took a cab to go see Blue Man Group, adn the show was fantanstic!!!! If you've never seen Blue Man Group, I would strongly recommend it!!!! :thumbsup2 After dinner we went back to our hotel, and walked around outside down Michigan Avenue for awhile, and then came back to the hotel for a midnight dessert treat :goodvibes It was a great day!!!!!:goodvibes

Then Sunday, we tried to sleep in, but the people next to us were allowing their children to scream and shreek as loud as they could - it woke us up at 8:30am:mad: The screaming went on and on and on and finally 15 minutes later I called the front desk and requested that they call the room and tell the people to control their children, but by this time, we were already up - so frustrating!!!!:headache: I couldn't believe those parents allowed that - I don't allow that kind of behavior in my home, let alone a hotel where others would be affected by it - it's the adults I blame, not the kids:mad:

So, after that, we got ready and went to breakfast in the hotel - it was a great buffet!!!!:thumbsup2 Then we went to The Chicago History Museum - it was very interesting!!!! I love going to museums, and I love taking my time and reading as much as I can - I learned some things yesterday that I didn't know. After that we headed back home to go have dinner at our inlaws and then take the girls home. It was very very nice weekend, and it was great to get away for awhile:goodvibes

Kimba - So many hugs to you and Kayla    Please continue to keep us posted on how everything is going, and I will continue to keep poor Kayla in my prayers. I will also send some PD her way too :wizard: :wizard:

Karen - That's good that your not calling it a diet - the first thing to success is changing how your think forever and not temporary. I wish you a lot of luck on this!!!! I now you and Jim will be successful with this venture :)

Well, I"m off to workout, and I need to workout alot, I ate way to much this weekend!!!
Have a good day today everyone!!!

sandy - I am glad ya'll had a great weekend!

James has his middle school orientation camp today & tomorrow. This is great for these kids. They get to know the layout of the school, learn to use lockers, meet other kids & teachers, etc... Emily starts cheer camp so she will be at the school also. This will be a busy week, but really aren't they all?

:surfweb:

Are any of you watching The Next Food Network Star on The Food Network. I started watching this show last week, and I really like it :thumbsup2 It's kind of like The Apprentice but with food. Stephanie and I are watching it together, and she really enjoys it too ::yes::

Karen - It sounds like a busy week!!! That's great that James can have a feel for the school before he goes. I wonder if they do something like that here. I know when I went to the middle school and high school here, there was nothing like that. You did a quick walk through before school started and then you were on your own - I remember being very nervous, but I did okay in the end:)

Well, I gotta run - have a good day today everyone!!!

Hi all!!

Just checking in! I don't have much time..it seems like being a way from home a couple days threw me way beind with everything!!

Kayla seems to be doing much better. They have already lowered her dosage of insulin once ( a good thing). We go see the Dr tomorrow. Her mood has picked up considerably, she's back to picking on her brother. Music to my ears!!!:rotfl: The recital is Friday so I'm glad she is getting her strength back.

Sandy - I missed the last Food Network Star!!!!! I completely forgot about it!! Sunday night everyone was asleep by 10:00!! Who got bumped??? I've watched that show every season since it's been on. It's really the only tv show that I hate to miss. Sounds like you had a great weekend:goodvibes

Karen - Good luck with your lifestyle changes. My family has kind of been thrown into that right now so I know how hard it is. All the yummy things are so bad for you.:scared1: Kayla LOVES her some pasta and pasta is a carb fest - not good for diabetics!!

Well I'm off. I need to wake up Kayla and give her her shot:headache: Man I really hate having to do that to her. I keep telling myself I'm doing it FOR her not TO her but it's hard:(

Kimba

It looks like it's a beautiful day today :sunny:
Which is great, because I'm off work, and I'm taking the girls to a beautiful park close to home, and I'm packing a picnic lunch. We are also taking their bikes so they can ride them at the park too (around a little lake). Then when we come home, they want to play in the pool. It looks like there's going to be no rain today, so they'll probably be able to do that :thumbsup2

Kimba - I'm glad Kayla is feeling better :) How is she when getting her shot? Has she accepted it? I would feel bad too if I had to give a shot to one of my girls
**I can't remember the name of the guy that was let go on FN show. He had the philosphy about food being about love and passion (or something like that). I don't think he was the one to be let go, because the Indian girl had a little fit, and stomped off the show. She then came back and apologized - for that behavior, she should have been let go, but I think they probably like her drama, and that's why they kept her.

Well, I'm going to go and start getting our lunch ready so we can leave before it gets to hot out. Have a great day today everyone!!!

What an awesome day we had yesterday!!!!!
The girls had such a nice time at the park we went to, and we had a nice picnic lunch. Unfortunately, I got really really sunburned :sunny: It hurts!!!! Than after the park, we came home, and the girls swam in the pool, and than we ate dinner outside - it was a really great day!!!!!:goodvibes :goodvibes

Well, I'm off to workout, and then start my day.
Have a great day today everyone!!!

Hi everyone!
Im just finishing my finals today. I just had a chemistry final, and in a few hours I have biology. Im almost done finally!

Kimba- im sorry to hear everything thats happening with your daughter. You not wanting to give her the shot sounds like my grandma and papa. My grandma has to give herself a shot every week for her rheumatoid arthritis. Her hands were so bad once she had to get my papa to do it, but he felt so bad, and didnt want to hurt her that he just couldnt do it. :worried:
But like you siad, it has to be done for her, and is good for her. Ill be thinking of her and spreading some extra PD pixiedust:

SLO- Your day out relaxing sounds so fun. Im glad youve had a good week it sounds. Glad you had a great anniversary weekend.

Idroveallnight- When I went to middle school and high school we had a couple hours orientation session the day or two before school so get our schedules, walk the school, etc. It sounds like they must really be preparing him. thats great. And good luck with the cheer camp stuff. I did that for 6 years, so I know how camps and things go. Ok just remember...Dont forget to tell yor DD to put sunscreen on her hair part incase it gets braided. Ouch, sunburns on your scalp really hurt!

Bye! off to do some last minute studying and eat lunch

What's everyone doing for Father's Day????

We are having everyone at our house (we do all holidays :faint: ). I'm hoping and praying that the weather is nice, because we all want this to be a pool party, and if everyone has to stay in the house, that will be a bummer :( Currently, the weather is saying rain and storms on Sunday, but I'm hoping it'll be wrong {{fingers crossed}}

Remember how I talked about my sunburn???
This is the worst sunburn I've had for awhile :( It is so painful, I just can't believe how painful it is  When I lay in bed, the covers (a sheet and light blanket) feel so heavy, because it hurts my skin. I don't know if my skin has gotten wimpier in my older age, or if the sun has gotten more intense. All I know, is that it hurts!!!!!!!

CB - How did your final finals go??? I hope they went well. Are you taking any summer classes???

Well, I gotta get myself moving and shaking
Have a good day today everyone!!!

I don't know if my skin has gotten wimpier in my older age, or if the sun has gotten more intense. All I know, is that it hurts!!!!!!!

I would have to go for the sun being more intense due to global warming...but the other might have something to do with it also.

So we went to the Doctor on Wednesday. All the tests came back normal. Meaning she does NOT have diabetes:cool1: :worship: :yay: :dance3: She is beyond thrilled!!
We still don't know exactly what the problem was though. Actually I've been doing my research and I have some very sound theories I need to do more research on. I think that sometimes Doctors - specialist in particular get tunnel vision and don't look at the big picture. Her endocrinologist was a little miffed that she didn't have diabetes and that he didn't know what it was. He kept saying "this is a first in my career" and "I've been a doctor for 35 years and I've never seen this" oh and "It just doesn't make any sense":rolleyes1
So she's free to eat drink and dance as she pleases.

Their recital is tonight and tomorrow night and I can't wait till they are both over! I'm just so tired out and run down. Plus I have a major head cold that is making me feel yucky!!

Sandy - are you sure you don't have sun poison? If it looks blistery you might want to go to the doctor for it.
We are hanging around our house for father's day. DH and DS have so much yard work to catch up on, since last weekend was a bust.
**I agree about the Indian girl on The Next Food Network Star - I thought she was far to cocky from the beginning.**

Kim

HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!!!!

Happy Father's Day to all our dads, stepdads, granddads, stepgranddads, godfathers, uncles, and etc.....I hope you have a wonderful day today!!!! :goodvibes

CB - I agree with you!!! I need to start using sunscreen ::yes::

Kimba - That's great news about your DD!!!!:woohoo: But still unsettling that the doctors can't pinpoint what is wrong with her:worried: When are you going to present your research to the doctor?
**The sunburn is on the road to getting better, but it's still not great (very tender). I never blistered, so I was very happy about that (this has happened to me before, and it was terrible).
**I'm excited to watch The Next Food Network Star tomorrow (I'm DVRing them so Steph and I can watch them on Monday nights). I"m not much of a Martha Stewart fan, so I'm not looking forward to seeing her :sad2:

Karen - Where are you????? I miss you!!!!!

Well, I gotta go get my house ready for the company we are having today.
Have a good day today everyone!!

Ok - so I have been a pretty pathetic DISer these last few days!! Just a busy week as usual in the Hudson house. Jim has started a vacation which is great. We aren't going anywhere - he'll just be home! He and James went fishing Friday evening and didn't come home until late (after midnight). Cheer camp is over! Emily has to go with the squad to the airport on Monday to greet the girls with America's Junior Miss. This means she will miss her all star gym that night. I can't say I'm disappointed.

sandy - I hope your sunburn is all better! Did you get pool weather?:beach:

kimba - I am glad Kayla doesn't have diabetes! I hope your research helps the doctor figure it all out.

celticblue - congrats on finishing finals!!!! I was really disappointed with our camp experience this year. My 19 yo DD cheered also so we have done quite a few and we love them!! This year the coach said to save money they weren't going. They just went to the school four days last week and worked on learning a couple of routines. It was a real let down - no staying at the dorms, bonding, getting picked for UCA AllStars. I find it funny that the coach said it was about $$. It's our money and she didn't even ask us!! I am all about fundraising and we could have raised the money. I think it really boiled down to the coach not wanting to go. :confused3 Emily got picked for All Stars last year & she got to march in the Thanksgiving parade at DW (like I needed an excuse to go). She has really increased her tunmbling skills and was hoping to get picked again - this year would have been the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade!

Have a great day ya'll!!

We did the stay home and learn our own routines a couple of times. Because if everyone in your area goes to the same camp, then everyone knows the same routines. For fundraising we did our own cheer camp where we taught girls ages 4/5-12 different routines and stunts. It was one weekend and at the end they put on a show for their parents. It was very cute and everyone loved it. If you ever need a fundraiser I highly recommend that.

DDs recitals went beautifully!! No medical issues for my girls!! :cool1: Here are some photos:

DH got a forest fire call this morning so Father's Day went a little haywire!! But it's all good. DS cut the grass for him and the girls baked brownies. He'll be happy.
I gotta go and get Kayla started on dinner. Two nights of nothing but standing for 4 1/2 hours each...I'm one hurting unit!! I'll be back later!!
Kim

We had a very nice day yesterday!!! :goodvibes

Everyone came over, and we sat outside while the girls were in the pool. As the dad's were opening presents, it was raining, but by the time presents were done, and the dinner was done being made, the rain was over, and we went and ate outside. But boy.....it was chilly!!!!!! We had to go inside, and put some sweatshirts on. Then after dinner, we played some bean bags, and then everyone went home. It was a very very nice day!!!!! :goodvibes

This morning, the girls and I have to leave early, so I can make a delivery before I go to work. The girls know about this, but they will not be happy when it's time to wake them up :sad2: They will be crabby, crabby, crabby!!!!!

Karen - Enjoy Jim being home this week!!!! :goodvibes
**How maddening about Emily's cheer coach not taking them this year:mad: I would very annoyed too!!!!!:headache:

CB - :wave2:

Kimba - Thanks for sharing those pictures with us!!!! Your have beautiful kids!!!!:goodvibes

Well, I guess I should get into the shower and get my day going
Have a good day today everyone!!

I am soooo sleepy this morning! I am going to work today and then i will take the next 3 days off. I have to call the dentist this am for Emi - she broke a tooth this weekend. I am hoping it is a baby tooth that needed to be pulled (because she isn't in much pain and it broke off at the gum and left all the pulpy stuff). I hope it gets handled today - she is supposed to go in for her impressions for her braces tomorrow.

sandy - I am glad ya'll had a good day. I can't believe you had to put on sweatshirts! How crabby were the girls?

kimba - your kids are beautiful! I am glad the recital went well - now you can hopefully get some rest!

Have a great day - I must drink coffee!!!:surfweb:

Hi Ladies!
Thanks for the compliments on my kids:goodvibes I'm still hurting alot today but thankfully I don't have to go anywhere today:cool1:

Sandy - Sweatshirts!!! Lucky you!!! It was ridiculously hot here yesterday! I know what you mean about waking your kids up early. Anything before 9 is too early for my kids - spoiled homeschooled kids:rotfl2:
**I watched The Next Food Network Star last night. I won't give anything away, but Martha Stewart wasn't on very long. Thank Goodness! I think they made a good choice with who they bumped - let me know what you think!"

Karen - Good to see you posting again!! I hope your DD gets her tooth fixed up!! I can totally understand your frustration with your DD's coach. Our dancing school "doesn't believe in competition". The girls only preform in events that aren't judged.:( My DDs would love to do some competitions. We are actually thinking of changing schools. Kayla has surpassed the teacher's knowledge of Irish dancing anyway.

I'm off to get some breakfast! Have a great day!!
Kim

:surfweb:

Karen - Poor Emily!!! How did she break her tooth?:( Were you able to get into the dentist yesterday and have it looked at? What did they do? Did they pull it or cap it?
**The girls were pretty crabby  But they got over it!!!!:)
**Isn't it crazy that we have to wear sweatshirts right now?! The temp is currently 56, and we are able to keep all the windows open in the house. This weather is nice, but I prefer the heat so we can be in the pool :sunny:
**How's the WWs going for you and Jim?

Kimba - I'm sorry you are still hurting today  I hope you feel better soon:wizard:
**I didn't get to watch TNFNS (the next food network star - we can abbrev it :thumbsup2 ) last night. I didn't get home until late bcause I was at a town meeting. As soon as I do, we can discuss it!!!!:)
**I heard on the news that it was really hot in your area :sunny: Do you have a pool?

Well, I gotta get our and get walking - I didn't work out the last 2 days, and I need to!!!
Have a good day today everyone!!!!
