Okay, Thanks to all who so generously replied to my former email (30 BCVpts).
I'm going to look at 150 pt contracts... but I'm just curious... has anyone out there in my position bought and regretted their decision based on lack of usage or any other difficulties or hidden downsides to this whole adventure???

Dana,

Have you considered other timeshare products? You might want to look into Worldmark the Club (WM). WM offers several beautiful properties near you (Eaglecrest in Redmond, Running Y at Klamath Falls, three coastal OR destinations) ... with ~50 more destinations across the United States, Mexico, Canada and Fiji.

I'm suggesting it for the following reasons:
  • WM would give you drive-to destinations
  • the dues are much lower! Comparison using my own dues:
    • $810/year for 20k WM credits ... would book two full weeks, high season, at most locations in 2BR unit.
    • $570/year for 150 DVC SRR points ... will book one week of alternating 1BR/Studio unit in low season at BWV preferred view (as the 7month window won't catch a std view)
  • Buy-in cost will also be lower (using resale figures)
  • WM can be used to trade into DVC through II if you choose. (I've twice traded WM for DVC BWV, 1BR units, low season.)
Just something to think about??

I'm sure people have bought and regretted...hence some portion of the resale market. I did skip it last year and rented my points out instead.

My wife and I joined DVC in 96 at the 150 point level and have loved it. We've not only had the opportunity to stay at WDW multiple times but used those points to go to Hawaii for a week. We just added another 150 points this year so we can increase the number of vacations that we take with Disney.

Good Luck.

many resales are due to divorce and financial issues.........i bet most would love to hold onto their DVC if they could..........
