Does the person whose name is on the DDE have to pay for the meal in order to get the discount? Let's say my parents want to pick up the check :smooth: , can I hand the waitress my DDE and Dad's credit card?

No they do not have to be the same person. Very often when I am out with others I will first present the DDE Card and thn when the adjusted bill comes back anther person in the group will make payent.

Thanks Chesire Figment,
It looks like this card is going to save me more money than I anticipated. And I won't feel so bad about parents picking up the check when the meal's discounted.:smooth:

We just used it for our quickie trip before our cruise and it was great, we only had the letter at this point, and had not problem using that, the letter was in my husband's name and I used it without him without any issues, it was great.

Does the DDE work for character meals also? For instance, with my three PS so far (all character meals), I'm calculating that we will already save around $40 with the DDE card (the 20 percent discount is before tax, correct?). That's not bad! So we just need another sit-down meal to make it worthwhile, and then all the additional savings would be just that -- savings.

Also, does the DDE card expire with your AP, or do you have to buy one for each trip?

TIA!

Does the DDE discount alcoholic beverages in participating locations?

The DDE expires approximately one year (plus a little extra to account for the mailing time) from the time you purchase it. The DDE expiration date will be different from your AP expiration date.

Best wishes -

We just got back form WDW and used DDE for the 1st time. We had many a waiter get it confused with the "Disney Dining Plan" AKA Magic Your Way. We had a group of 10 (2 groups of 5) and we often rotated paying the bill. (we took one meal, they took the next.) The only place we had any issue at all with it was 1900 PF where the waiter just made sure we also signed to bill to verify that we were there since our friends didn't have DDE, just us.

A few places they actually slpit the bill for us (we were at 2 tables since they couldn't fit us all together) CTR for dinner and B&C they did this with no problem.

The only place that is sit down that doesn't take it is Big River Bewery (I think that is the name) on the boardwalk. Almost every other place does that is sit down, and a few if there isn't any sit down options (such as AK park and the value resorts.)

One word, the 20% does not count for the meal vouchers you can get at AK for a meal, a snack and drink. It does count for all other food orders that are counter service (not the carts.)

I need to add it all up, but we saved well over $200, and that is counting the 50 we paid for it.

Did anyone ever try to have a check split after it was brought? Not separate checks, but just being able to put it on two different credit cards.

FYI: The DDE card is good for parties of UP TO 6 people. The wait staff is not required to extend it beyond 6 meals.

That was true last year when it was only for Florida residents, but now it is good for a party of up to 10.

Do you have to present the card when you order, or can you wait until you are paying the bill?

Actually it was changed from a party of 6 to a party of 10 in the early fall of 2004, well before adding the AP holders.

at the end of the meal the first time at Boma. Our waiter mentioned that he needed to OK the card with a manager. Thereafter, we mentioned it midway during the meal in case they needed to call someone. By the way, we saved (personally) well over $150; my BIL and SIL who ate most meals with us saved similarly!

Just to make sure I am understanding the DDE program, for all you experts,
(I am a new AP holder) bear with me.. the DDE has an initial cost of $50.00,
covers your entire party (10 max) at a flat 20% off the bill, before T/T
inclusive of alcoholic drinks, etc. Right so far? what in your opinion, would a realistic savings be for 2 adults, before factoring in the initial $50.00 investment.? thanks! :drinking1
