I have naturally curly hair and am wondering what I might need to do differently on the cruise. Have any other curly girls or curly guys noticed anything different while cruising? Also should I use the space to bring my own blow dryer with defuser? I use all Deva products. Any that you would recommend while on the cruise?

On Dream there was a diffuser in the bag with the hair dryer.

My hair adores humidity, so it goes crazy (as in extra curly), generally, on our cruises. I have all my "keep that moisture in the hair" products so the wind doesn't frizz it out.

Of course, I just cut all my hair off (now it's even curlier) so who knows what a cruise would be like now?

I have found the easiest thing to do is not fight Mother Nature. It is windy and humid. Let your curls go crazy and tie it back when outdoors. I brought travel bottles and filled them with my Deva Curl No-Poo and conditioner. I only shampoo once a week when at home and con-poo a couple of times. It's basically 'washing" with conditioner. Decreases frizz. I am also a fan of Body Shop Coconut Shine. Great frizz tamer and emergency cuticle moisturizer.

I usually keep my hair protected under a sun hat during the day and allow it to be wild and funky at night. If I were to put my head under water (swimming), I would coat it with conditioner to protect it from the chlorine. I use "hair mud" to wash my hair and Trader Joe's conditioner to "co-wash" (wash with conditioner) my hair. I was wondering how the Disney products would affect my hair. I read the ingredients online and if I remember correctly, they contain sulfates (something I don't use on my hair). So, I think I'm going to steer clear of using them and just bring my own products.

My dd13 has curly hair and on the cruises it just goes crazy! Pool, ocean, whatever. It's still beautiful & she loves it, so nothing different was done.

Curly girls here, too (me and DD). We pack our Deva no-poo, use lots of argan oil and roll with it.

Great tips everyone. We live in NJ but every time we travel south, I basically give up on my curls and friz and wear a pony tail. Every vacation picture - formal or non - hair up! I'm definitely going to try some of these products so I can let my hair down!

Alterna Bamboo Curl Crème is also great---I have really curly thick hair and it helps stop the frizz and keep it looking somewhat presentable! That said, I don't heat dry, so not sure how it does with the blowdryer. But it works great with the regular heat and humidity.

I love in humid southeast Florida. Now that summer is here, I do not bother to straighten my hair. I use Pillow Soft Curls styling lotion in my hair. It keeps my curls frizz free, but super soft to the touch. It works great air drying or when I use a diffuser. I got it at Target for $22.

Thanks everyone. I will most likely only co-wash, but am concerned about the chlorine as I don't swim very often. I used to live in Florida, but more north so different humidity and temperatures and certainly not the "breezes" that happen on a cruise. Good to know the Dream has a defuser. I do know my hair loves loves loves salt water and salty air, so looking forward to good curls (probably standing straight up, but still good curls).

I have this too, but I have to either only use a little or put something else on it to mask the strong fabric softener smell. I just tried it on LO's hair last night though. He smells like fresh laundry, but his curls look great and they're soft.

I don't even worry about it! Lol! I don't want to pack extra stuff so I just use whatever is on board with some mango butter creme on hair to control curls and air dry.

Pull it back if it looks too crazy but I understand wanting nice photos. Sometimes I pull half back with a nice barrette

I just bring my Loreal EverCurl conditioner and Loreal curl creme. I looked up those Deva products, way out of my price range, lol.

Tami, I used to think that as well. But they go a LONG way. I don't use the no-poo and only co-wash with Suave Naturals. I buy the big $40 bottle of conditioner that I use as a leave in using only one pump. My stylist (a certified Deva cut and product specialist) told me that the best way to use the styling gel was in the shower. A little goes a very long way. I think I buy maybe 3 bottles of styling gel (Ultra defining) a year and 2-3 tubes of BeLeavin' (also a leave in conditioner) and 1 bottle of the creme to reset on days 2 and 3. I'm using the same bottle of Mister Right that I bought 3 years ago as I find it far to thick to be a spray so pour 2-3 tablespoons in with 1/2 cup of water into a spray bottle to use to freshen up my curls.

I use Deva products also. Just remember to bring your shampoo to keep the fizz at bay. If you use the shampoo on the ship you might have frizz.
