Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi Everyone! Sorry I haven't been around recently. I'm currently down the rabbit hole dealing with some of life's drama, but I'm hoping to find my way back out soon and will update everyone when I do. We're also out of here for the DCL Hawaii cruise this weekend and will be bobbing on the Pacific with Mickey and friends for until May 14th.

when I tore my Planta Fascia a couple of years ago.

Slo, I didn't realize you'd torn your planta fascia. Both, Carol and myself, have dealt with plantar fascitis and it is pretty painful. Carol's oldest daughter, disteach, is now going through it and the podiatrist told her that it is so bad that it likely would have torn in another couple of weeks had she not gotten in there.

It will just be me (no kids) and I'd rather get to experience a bunch of the city rather than one thing in depth, given my very limited amount of time.

For me, it would be stay in the city. There is a lot to do in the city around Christmas and I enjoy being where I can just walk out of my hotel and be in the middle of it. That being said, with the blue line right there, it's an easy shot from O'Hare right into the city, so not a big deal either way.

The downtown Hilton is the Palmer House Hilton, otherwise referred to simply as "The Palmer House". It's a beautiful hotel right in the center of it all and an easy half mile walk, past Marshall Fields (many Chicagoans still refuse to refer to it as Macy's ;) ), to the Magnificent Mile.

If you want a real Chicago steak, book a reservation at Gibson's Steakhouse. Or, there's a good local favorite called The Saloon Steakhouse, across from the Hancock building.

Avoid Morton's. It's overpriced, and they don't serve a true Chicago dry aged steak (they use a wet aging process like you'll find all over NYC).

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't even think of Chicago steak - I figured on having pizza for dinner!

I'll look at the Palmer House. From looking at Trip Advisor, I had been thinking of the other side of the river (so Conrad or Waldorf Astoria), but I'll check out Palmer House as well.

My flight out is around 1pm, so no need to spend the night at the airport and I'll leave my luggage in "left luggage", so the blue line is my plan.

ETA - I'm realising that there likely isn't a "left luggage" place at ORD. Hmm...wonder if the airport Hilton would take my suitcase (I do have status with them).

Hi Chicagoans! :)

Welcome lthiesfeld07! :teacher: Wish I could move with you! Have you taught in the past or is this your first teaching job you're after?

CrashBB...........I agree with Crissup on the Palmer House. We live outside of the city 90 miles, and have stayed there many times to avoid driving home late. The history of the place is amazing - if you decide to stay there be sure to read up on it and give yourself a tour while there. We enjoy the proximity to the Art Institute ~ I would rather live there than Disney World :cloud9:.

Becky.....How did it go with your insurance adjuster? Hope you get your house all fixed up (and they don't raise your stinkin rates ).
Just worry like you about my kids lack of concern for their futures. The guilt is that we are giving them too much and making their lives a bit too easy? Let me know when you figure out where to draw the line. ;)

Slo........Titanic was the first grown up movie I took my son to. I kept saying....'you know how it ends'? Kids are just fascinated with that story aren't they? We haven't seen the new one.
Thanks for anniversary wishes - 25 years married. TO THE SAME MAN - ONE AND ONLY. Plus....we dated for two before that. :scared1:

Disneynut...how was the camping trip? Sleep a lot? Bet it was fun.

Pretty day here. I actually like the cool sweater weather.

Have a good week......:flower3:

Hi friends :wave2:

We are so busy, but I'm actually kinda lovin it - weird I know

Yesterday was Katie's first scrimmage game, and it was such an eye opener for the girls, and for us first time coaches. I was under the impression that this was still going to be a warm and fuzzy experience, but this is serious stuff:eek:. So we all need to kick it up a notch for Saturday's first game, and take things more seiously. Katie is excited - she is our starting pitcher. Never did I think she was pitcher material, but she's very good at it :) Now I just wish that the Saturday weather would change - it's not going to be a great day for a ballgame:sad2:

Stephanie is doing awesome at soccer, and has a game tonight - Brrr!!!!! She is also our assistant to the assistant coach for softball, and has a new title as of yesterday - DUGOUT MANAGER :thumbsup2 She's going to be in charge of the girls under control (behavior wise), get the next batter to the batters box, take someone to the bathroom, and etc. She seems pretty excited about her title :goodvibes

Nothing much else going on - no time for it:upsidedow
I'm back in a big knee brace, which doesn't make me to happy, but that's life - I'm always in a brace for something - knee, foot, hand, elbow, and pretty soon a mouth guard at night - it's crazy!!!!

lthiesfeld07 and katwisc - WELCOME!!!!!:banana::banana:
Please come visit us often - we would love to get to know you both !!!:goodvibes

crashbb - WELCOME to you also!!!!:cheer2:
Crissup gave some great suggestions :thumbsup2

Crissup - I hope those dramas get better soon for you:wizard: They have a way of really bringing life down
*Have a wonderful time on your cruise!!!! :cool2:
*Tearing that Planta Fascia was a horrible experience. When it snapped, I could hear it, I could feel it - it made my knees buckle:headache:. Within an hour the pain was so intense that I could barely put weight on it - not good for someone that works on their feet for a living:sad2: To make a long story short - my doctor tried many things, but finally 9 months later he said surgery was the only way to go. So on Dec 28, 2011 I had the surgery - he went in and completely severed the planta fascia for it to grow back and connect to scar tissue to lengthen it. Then I was in a boot until the end of April - I even had to sleep in it - it was terrible. The surgery worked about 50%, and I still have pain, but nothing like I did. After I tore it the pain was a 9/10. When I was healing the paing was a 7/8, and now the pain is 3-5 (depending on the day and activity level). It's been a long road

rmom - My husband is my one and only too :goodvibesI dated my husband for 7 years before we married, and we'll be married 17 years this June, plus he's the only guy I dated. People are always so stunned when I tell them that :)

geffric - :wave2:

Well, my little Katie just got here, and she's full of stories about her day :upsidedow

Have a great rest of the day!!!

Stephanie's team had another win last night, which makes them undefeated so far:cheer2::cheer2: After the team getting broke up due to being undefeated last season:headache:, I really hope they have another kick butt season to show the league that our coach is awesome, and after what happened to our coach, he deserves another great season :dance3:

We have softball practice tonight, and it's gonna be cold again, and tomorrow is gonna be worse for opening day :sad1: Katie's always so hot though, so I'm sure she'll play great :thumbsup2

So, just the normal crazy crazy crazy :upsidedow
Have a great weekend everyone, and if you have to be outside, stay warm.

She passed yesterday.

Hugs to you.

I had to put my 20 year old cat to sleep last Friday. Like your kitty (all cats, no matter how old are kitties), he became sick very quickly. I find solace in the fact that neither suffered long.

:grouphug: MAC AND CRASHBB.....I am so so sorry for your losses. I remember talking about Baby not too long ago, Raven. I'm sad for you and your family. So hard to lose our little fur babies. Thinking of you all. :sad1:

Howdy, strangers! Long time, no see! I was wondering if any of you had an bakery recommendations for the northern 'burbs...McHenry, Barrington, Deerfield, etc. I am specifically looking for cupcakes or cake pops. My sister went to her favorite cupcake place to place a large order for a shower, and they were closed. I told her I'd ask the all knowing Disers. Thanks.

Happy damp and cloudy Saturday :wave2:

Everything for us got cancelled today, which is sad and good at the same time. Sad, because we were looking forward to our opening day for softball, but sad, because it's to cold, and we would just be miserable, and the kids would have had no fun. So now I'm at work again - SHOCKER!!!!!:lmao:

Mac - So many hugs to you
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Crissup - I am glad to hear that :) Have a wonderful and safe time :cool1:

crash - Many hugs to you too
I will also keep you in my thoughts and prayers

paint and rmom - :wave2:

geffric - I grind my teeth so bad at night that I'm cracking my fillings, and have had to have some totally replaced because of it:rolleyes2. My dentist wants me to wear a mouth guard to help prevent this, but I just can't bring myself to do it yet. Pretty soon I will have to if I like it or not. :worried:

Have a great rest of the day everyone!!

Mac, so sorry to hear about your baby. Our pets are our children. They are part of the family and it is so hard to let them go.
Slo, Kyle wore a mouthgaurd for grinding for a long time-until his baby teeth finally came out and the new teeth moved into a better position. He was grinding the teeth down to nubs. He doesn't have to wear the gaurd now, though he does still grind at times. Makes my skin crawl when I hear it.:faint:
Crissup, hope you have a wonderful trip. Can't wait to see pix and hear all about your adventures.
Hi Paint!!! Hope all is going well with the new baby and the job. I admire all the teachers out there and give them many props!! It's a tough job.
Welcome to all our new friends. Come by often.
Geffric, Rmom, and everyone else, howdy and hope you all have a great weekend.
DD is in Washington D.C. this weekend with her 8th grade trip. She sounds like she is having a good time. But she also sounds very tired. I've actually missed her.
