Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Good Morning Chicagoland homies! :flower3: I love federal holidays b/c, while i still need to work, most people don't, so the train is pretty quiet and i actually get a decent parking spot!:thumbsup2 My weekend was pretty laid back and relaxing!

Slo ~ we went to a very nice restaurant we love called Frankie's Restaurante. Amazing food, Great service, nice setting, what more can i ask for! :goodvibes they are really good with being festive but not tacky festive. i.e. they changed their normal ivory pillar candles to pink, changed most of their square 4 seater tables to small round 2 seaters, had pink roses in the vases as opposed to their normal multi-colored flowers, etc. They did similar things for new years and Christmas! It's a wonderful place!

Everyone else ~ :wave2: have a wonderful day!

PS Slo ~ thanks for the link to all the smilies! :goodvibes

Hi gang! I had a pretty relaxing weekend. DH and I said "no gifts" for Valentine's Day but what does he do - a dozen roses from ds, and 2 bottles of Champagne from dh. He made shrimp, rice and asparagus. Yesterday, after church we stayed home and cleaned and did tons of laundry.

Slo - My irises are yellow. I need some purple ones. Maybe this year. I have Slo's Stew on my menu this week. It sounds so easy and yummy. Hope you are feeling better.

Crissup - Hope your back is better. DH did the exact same thing last week! Yesterday during lunch he needed to cough. He couldn't decide if he wanted to cough and be in pain or just choke. I told him choking and a more permanent effect.

DG - that restaurant sounds great! Where is it located?

Piglet - sorry about your losses at the boat! Better luck next time.

Hi to everybody else.
Lori

Greetings.. I had typed a nice response,. hit submit and then poof!! it disappeared..:confused3

So I took the kids to lunch instead.. We were going to go to a Chinese buffet place.. but it was closed.. so we went to Pizza Hut buffet instea.. it was fine but not chinesey.(sp).

Anyway, my new TV diedyesterday, called the manufacturer and they set up a call with a local repair person.l.. so the repair person is comming to look at it today.:thumbsup2

Crissup - sorry about ypur back.. how are you feeling today?

I love Outback.. the salad and then the skewer of meat and veggies YUMMY!!

Thanks for all the well wishes for my sore muscle. In my case, it was actually on my side, not my back. But, it still hurt a lot. At least with my side, I know it will be better relatively soon. It's already significantly better than it was the other day. However, it still hurts a lot if I try to cough and I'm still scared to death to sneeze. When I do have to cough, I try and hold inward pressure on the muscle as hard as I can and try to cough very gently.

I stopped taking the codeine today to see how far it's come already. I'm planning to head back to work tomorrow and didn't want to drive while taking the codeine. I'm sure in another week, it won't be much of a big deal at all. But, wow, it sure did hurt when it happened.

Hi all!!!

I've been MIA for a while.
I tried to post last week actually, but for some reason it didn't go through and I was rushed for time so I didn't try to repost.

Life is really crazy here!! :upsidedow

DS had been sick again, took him to the doctor and he did miss a day of school, but he's finally doing much better.
He did give it to me though. I'm still dealing with a REALLY sore throat that is making it very difficult to sleep. And I'm snoring a lot!! It's getting better but slowly.

DH is still with his parents. His mom is not doing very well. They found another cancer tumor between her lungs, but they're not sure if it was there before her chemo started or after. The doctor wants her to go through a few more weeks of chemo to see what happens to it. She's been very sick and weak too. So DH takes her to where ever she needs to go. And he's been doing a lot of work in their house.
He did come home this weekend for a surprise visit! I just happened to call him while he was at the airport and that's when he told me he was coming home. He was off today so it was a 3 day weekend for him too.
So if you didn't guess by that statment, he is working out there too. There is absolutley NO work here for him, let alone the thousands of other out of work construction workers in the Chicago area.

John Hope your side is feeling better soon!

geffric It's so frustrating when new stuff croaks! Hope the repair guy can fix it right away!

paint That's great you got to make a ton of loot! Vacation money!!!!!

slo We go to Outback once in a blue moon. I'm not a fan of their steaks though. The seasoning does not agree with us at all. I do like the chicken with rice and veggies with pineapple. And the cheesey/bacon fries and creamy onion soup are yummy. Sometimes we just get the fries and soup!!
A lot of restaurants have a call ahead list. You call them and ask how long of a wait and they will add you to the list so you don't have to wait so long there. We do that all the time now.

piglet What do you play on the boats? Sorry you weren't winners.
Hope you had a great dinner though.

momto1 TWO bottles of champagne???

irish dancer Hope your DD had a great b-day!!! Happy 12th to her!! :cake:

Hersey Every time you talk about cleaning you're taking a break from it!!!

disneygal The restaurant you went to sounds cozy!

Time to run. Kids just got done watching a movie. And I need to start dinner soon.

:wave2:

Bunchkin -
A bartender in the Beveryly neighborhood told us many years ago that "a bird can't fly with one wing" - have 2 drinks not one! So, dh reminded me of that with the 2 bottles of champagne!

But...I didn't drink them both!
Lorir

there is a chocolate eclair ice cream bar in my freezer that keeps screaming let me out, let me out........

lucky ducky, godiva chocolate......yum yum

no candy or flowers here for me saturday.
i had the next best thing.
mr mac went out of town friday and came back this evening. man, i got a lot of cleaning done. that was great for me.....i finally cleaned the dump. i told him if he goes away again for 5 days, i might clean the junk out of the basement.....

Evening all! It feels like Sunday because everyone was off today. It will be back to the grindstone tomorrow though.

DDs birthday was good, thanks for the well wishes. We were very surprised my mom came for cake, she doesn't get out much at all lately not even to church. One of my brothers and two sisters came too along with 5 nieces and nephews so it was a rather full house. It was a nice time.

DH works for Sony, found out Friday that they're cutting 1,000 jobs by the end of March. They've offered early retirement to everyone over 50 and depending on how many take the package will determine how many other people get cut to meet that 1,000. We're keeping fingers crossed and praying it won't hit him but these days you never know.

Bunchkin - glad to see you around again. Sorry you and DS have been sick. Sorry too about your MIL, I hope things will improve with her soon.

Crissup - glad you're feeling a bit better. DH did that once but he was stretching and pulled something right under his rib.

geffric - yumm Godiva chocolate! Lucky you!!
*Don't you hate when you type a long post and it disappears?!
**I hope they can fix your TV, what a bummer since it's new.

Hersey - lol on the mirrors, if you find something like that let us all know.

disneygal - where is Frankie's? It sounds very nice is it Italian? I LOVE Italian food.

paint - glad to see you around again. Congrats on all the tips, tough work but glad you were rewarded.
*How's school this semester?
**How's the trip planning coming?

piglet - sorry about the $$ losses, I can't gamble - can't stand to part with my $$. I will do slots but only around $10.

Well, I need to get things buttoned up around here. DH is off this week so we're going to the Auto Show tomorrow while the kiddos are at school.

Ooooohh, almost forgot to ask, looking for a recommendation. DH is on a Mexican food kick and is looking for a really good restaurant. Anyone have any recommendations for a great Mexican restaurant?

OK, got to run. Have a great night everyone! :flower3:

hi! I live in carpentersville. just got back from florida sunday. the first half of our trip was COLD!!!! the last 5 days were great. tried like heck to extend it, but... all booked up for presidents day weekend. just as well. at least most of the snow covering was gone.
we delayed our trip one day because of the KY ice storms. when we drove through the next day... OMG! the trees so bent over with the ice and some of the power lines were hanging down so low, I was afraid we wouldn't fit under them! and we saw many trucks and cars abandoned on the side. thank God we chose to delay our drive!

:surfweb:

DG - The restaurant you went to sounds lovely!!! I'm glad you had a good time!!:goodvibes

momto1 - I hope you stew turns out well. I've served it over both noodles and rice, and my family seems to enjoy the rice more, so that's what I mostly do.

geffric - I"ve never had the Pizza Hut buffet - sounds yummy!!!!:goodvibes
*I hope you tv is able to get fixed.

Crissup - I'm glad you are feeling better:) . Make sure you don't hold in your sneeze to protect your muscle, because you could do more harm. When I hurt my back, my Chiropractor asked me if I held my sneeze, and I told him I didn't. He said that the pressure that builds up in your body from holding in a sneeze can do tons of damage. He had a client blow out 5 discs in her back from holding in a sneeze:eek:
**Tell CarolAnn we said "HI" :wave2:

Bunchkin - So good to see you!!!!
*I"m sorry to hear that Hunter was sick again :guilty: I'm glad he's better now!!
*I will keep Tony's mom in my thoughts and prayers. I"m sorry to hear how sick she's been:guilty:
*I"m glad Tony was able to come home and visit this past weekend - what a nice surprise!!!:goodvibes

HERSEY - You are to funny!!!

Mac - That's great about getting the cleaning done. I love it when I can clean alot:)
*So....what did you do with the eclair?
*I just read it's gone:rotfl:

ID - Sending lots of PD your way that your DH is not part of the 1000:wizard: The more I hear about all these layoffs, the more I get mad, because you know these companies can afford all these people they are laying off, but they have a magic number they want to keep, and instead of making less money, they would rather destroy people's lives - it's ridiculous:headache: !! I don't know how all these big executives that aren't taking a pay cut, or taking a pay cut that to us is still making a ton of money, can sleep at night.
**Have fun at the auto show.
**Are you close to Schaumberg? Chevy's mexican restaurant is out there, and that's really good:)

smidgy - :welcome:
I"m glad you made it home safetly:) Are there any special moments from your trip you would like to share. We enjoy listening about people's trips :)

Well, I gotta go get ready for work.
Have a great day today everyone!!!

Mac I heard about a eclair stealing ring hitting your area. I hope you were able to fend them off without getting hurt. It works off calories too;) It is extreme excercising just like extreme fighting on cable :thumbsup2

John I hope you continue to improve. If I try to stop a sneeze it usually comes back stronger. Be careful

ID Hopefully your DH dodges the bullet. It is really rough times out there.

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: For those who are interested... Frankie's is in Tinley Park at 171st St. and 94th Ave. Not too far from the I80 Lagrange exit. The menu ranges from $14.95 to $30/35.00. The higher end are usually specials! They also have a great wine list and the desserts are amazing! I highly reccommend them for a special occasion or just a nice dinner date!

Well, lots of work today! have a great day everyone! I'm hoping this snow and rain i heard about passes us by. I'm so ready for spring!

the eclair is now gone.............:rolleyes1

well one does have to clean the kitchen too.. LOL

:surfweb:
Bunchkin - So good to see you!!!!
*I will keep Tony's mom in my thoughts and prayers. I"m sorry to hear how sick she's been:guilty:

Hope she is comfortable and that Tony is Okay..

Yes It makes me mad too.. the exec still make millions and the rest of us worry about foreclosures and eating cat food..

**Are you close to Schaumberg? Chevy's mexican restaurant is out there, and that's really good:)

There is a good mexican place in Arlington Hts.. if you want a drive..

smidgy - :welcome:

Well the Pizza Buffet was ok.. it has a salad bar ( limited) pizza, bread sticks and marina sauce. the ymmy cin sticks and dessert pizza..

slo- School is going well. I have two English classes and two teaching classes. I still need one more semester of Spanish, but I needed a break!
bunchkin- Sorry to hear about dh (and his dm). I have a good friend in Morris whose dh just got laid off from his construction job, too.
ID- Not too much planning yet. My mom and my sister are going to join us for a few days and I am so excited. I love going with my mom- reminds me off when we went when I was little. Also, free babysitting for when dh and I celebrate our aniiversary at Citrico's. Shh...haven't told dm yet!:rotfl2:
smidgy- Hi and welcome!
dgal- I will have to tell dm about thatplace. They are always looking for good Italian!

Gotta' finish lunch and head to class!

Hi gang! How are the diets going today? I walked after work with 2 co-workers yesterday. We walk a mile around the 2nd floor of our office. Won't be walking tonight since I have a meeting and dont' want to be sweaty and stinky!

DG - thanks for the address of Frankie's. Sounds yummy and easy to get to for me.

Paint - good luck with your classes! Citrico's for your anniversary sounds fabulous. I have never been but it is on my must-try list.

ID - I will pray that your husband doesn't get laid off. It is totally scary right now. Sorry, but I am not much help on the Mexican. We do like Lalo's but I don't know if that is really good mexican food.

Hi to everybody else! Have a good day!

that was one of the worse storms that hit parts of kentucky.
it was a mess.
when jim catore goes to do on the spot newscasting, you know it is a doozy of a storm.

how long does it take for you and the Mr. to drive to the motherland?

I have driven only 4 times.
Once i discovered airplane travel, no more car trips for me.
i would lose so much of my vacation time by being in the car i decided to fly for my trips.

There are a lot of pluses and cons for car travel and flying.

Mac - That's great about getting the cleaning done. I love it when I can clean alot:)
*So....what did you do with the eclair?
*I just read it's gone:rotfl:

i think a sleep walker took it.........

Mac I heard about a eclair stealing ring hitting your area. I hope you were able to fend them off without getting hurt. It works off calories too;) It is extreme excercising just like extreme fighting on cable :thumbsup2

Yea, that's what happened.
It wasn't that sleep walker after all.
It was that theft ring you just talked about........:rolleyes1

well one does have to clean the kitchen too.. LOL

if i really cleaned the kitchen, i would find the fudge and cookies i hid from myself...........

diet days are here to stay.
or at least until someone orders pizza..

hugs and prayers to all that have had to change your lives around due to losing a job, traveling way out of your area to keep a job, and those that are unable to find another job.
it is tough out there and i totally empathize with all of you.

to the sickies, hang in there, you will find comfort soon.
have you all on my prayer list.

and to those that have worries, this too will pass.
it's all part of life.

and a big good afternoon to all the Chicagoland homies....

What a soggy morning!!! :umbrella:
Thank goodness it's not windy, or I would get soaked when I take Sophie out :dog:

DG - Thanks for the info on the restaurant:) . I will have to ask Kevin if he knows where it's at, because he's pretty familiar with Tinley Park.

paint - Will you be allowed to work while during your student teaching? At Purdue Calumet you can not work while doing your student teaching:sad2: Someone at the daycare just had to leave their job because of this - I felt bad for her:guilty:

momto1 - Diet is going great, but I always diet (except on weekends when I splurge). That's great you were ablet to walk - I am counting the days until I can walk again :)

HERSEY and Mac - Your continuing story on The Mystery of the Eclair has really made me chuckle - to funny!!!!

Well, I'm off to eat my grapefruit.
I bought 8 grapefruit on Monday, and the last week I bought 7 because the prices have been awesome. Last week they were 39 cents each, and now they are 25 cents each. I love grapefruit, so I'm very excited to have one every morning.

Have a great day!!!
