Slo Wow remind me not to use Sears. A 11pm delivery that is just so wrong. You should have gotten a call from the manager earlier in the day to let you know about the problems. I am so sorry you have such a day.

I am glad it is warmer out, it feels so much better in the house. I actually was warm last night so I turned down the heat. :thumbsup2

Today is my day for cleaning. :laundy: Yes I know you all are jealous. :lmao:

morning.. been up doing laundry et al..

SLO 11 pm?? that is outrageous..

off to Dominick's, Staples for tax software, gas then to finish laundry and cleaning.. wonder what to do for diner??

Hi, Chicagoland...thank you for all of your kind thoughts and prayers and words for our families. We truly appreciate them all.

It's been a rough week, we had services here in Chicago and then we went down to Kentucky and had services again there. We did get to do some visiting with Mark's family which was the nice part. (Mark is the oldest of 7, so there were a LOT of people to visit with!)

Slo...my word...how could you be so patient to wait until 11 for a delivery??? I would have been beyond furious!!!

Hersey...we were driving home yesterday and I was praying for no snow, no snow, no snow...it is good that it seems to have hit in the morning (and a tad at night) but was pretty clear for our drive. How did you like the movie "Mall Cop"? Is that the one with Kevin James?

All of you that work downtown and have to take the train and stuff in this COLD, I feel for you guys...ugh!

I hope it warms up a bit, and the snow stays away for a bit, too. Have a good evening, all!

Mall cop IMO was ok for Alex age. There were a couple of parts that this conservative mom didn't care for and could have been left out or at least tamed down. Not an academy award winning movie by any stretch. Alex liked it.

Donna Sorry you guys have had such a crummy start to your new year. Luckily the weather was at least kind to you.

Good Afternoon Everyone! :flower3: I went to see Bride Wars finally!!! I liked it alot! It is definitely a movie I'd watch again! :goodvibes Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Slo ~ sorry about your washing machine delivery. We've had really poor customer service with Sears Delivery too a couple of times. One time they never even showed up:sad2: They called said they were running late and they'd be here by 9pm... 930pm and they still weren't here. we called and the person on the phone said they stopped making deliveries at 9pm. They will call us to reschedule. My mom was NOT happy b/c we wasted a whole saturday waiting for them to come and they never showed up!!! ugh. never again! (granted we haven't had to make any major purchases since but still it was awful)

I need some restaurant ideas. Dewain and I are celebrating our "meeting" anniversary this Friday. (it will be 15 years) I want to go someplace different, so no Texas Roadhouse, Outback, Olive Garden or Red Lobster. Looking to spend no more than $100 on dinner, can be anywhere in the Chi-town area, and any "type" of food. We thought about going to Bennihana's, but it is not as much fun when it is just the two of us.

piglet too Weber grill is really good not too expensive. There is one in Oakbrook terrace.

Hello chicago DISboarders! I am writing to ask for your help. My friend and I celebrate our birthdays one day apart and for the last few years we have gone away on a girls weekend. This year we have decided we want to visit Chicago. We are thinking about May 15-18 since its after Mothers day and before Memorial Day. I have been checking some things out online but just dont know where to start. We wont be doing much shopping since we are spending quite a bit to fly so shopping isnt much of a priority. We just want to see and experience what Chicago is all about. I would appreciate ANY advice on what we should see and do while we are there and....WHERE SHOULD WE STAY?? Everything looks very expensive. We will not have a car so access to public transportation is a necessity for us. We are both turning 33. I am a Stay at home mom and my friend has no kids. We've been friends since 7th grade and have been celebrating our birthdays together since then. In JR. High we used to go get perms together for our birthday! lol! Anyway, sorry to ramble on here. Just wanted to give you an idea of what we were like so you could suggest some ideas for us. Thanks again!

smacky1 What is your budget for a hotel? Are you looking to do the museums, theater? If you give us some kind of idea of your wants I am sure someone can help out.

Hi Piglet too-
I know there are tons of restaurants in the Schaumburg area, Italian cuisine and steakhouses. Maggiano's (has different locations other than Schaumburg). There is this newer restaurant called Rosebud- I have never been in there, but it is Italian cuisine. Also Ale's Steakhouse(I think that's what it's called). Not familiar with that one. Don't know if you are willing to travel all the way to Schaumburg. I think Rosebud has different locations throughout the suburbs as well. Weber Grill is nice(I've been there once).
Hope this helps :)

To all that have the day off - I hope you have a great day off!!!!:cool1:

HERSEY - 11pm is very very wrong!!!! I am going to call Sears today and make a formal complaint about this. I chose Saturday so it would be convenient for me, not inconvenient for me. The last couple times we needed anything with customer service, we've gotten really bad service - do you remember when we had our furnace installed in the spring, and the men were here until almost midnight?:faint: Then the next morning I had the FD at my house because of a gas leak, and the furnace people had to come back that day:sad2: For some reason, people don't want to treat us right:sad2:

geffric - What did you and your DH do for your anniversary?

Donna - So many continued hugs for your and Mark!!!!
**Kevin and I were furious, but I told Kevin not to be intimidating towards them, because I didn't want hooking up something wrong because they are tired and nervous. I didn't want them to have to come back:sad2:

DG - I'm glad you liked Bride Wars :)
**In these tough times, Sears better start getting better customer service or they are going to be like Circuit City!!!

piglet - Here's another vote for Weber Grill:thumbsup2 Wildfire is also another great steak place:thumbsup2

Mac - Thanks for the listings!!!:)

smacky - Welcome to our thread, and I'm glad you felt comfortable coming here for advice!!!:goodvibes I can't really give good advice on where to stay, because I haven't stayed downtown that much. I know there's a Red Roof Inn downtown - I wonder how much that is? :scratchin We'll be happy to try and help with whatever you need.

Rose - :wave2:

Well, I must go get ready for work - I hope I have some business today with people being off work {{fingers crossed}}

Have a good day!!!

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: I love it when there is a Federal Holiday! It usually means the train station is not as crazy and crowded! It's nice not having to park way out in no man's land!

Slo ~ I completely agree. The sad thing is, I worked for Sears for 7 years. I'm glad I got out of there when I did!

Piglet ~ There is a really nice place in Tinley called Frankie's Restaurante. It is Italian food and is all made fresh there. Mike and I went there on New Year's eve. The dinner's cost anywhere from $14 - $35. (some of the specials are really pricey though) It is fantastic! We love it there!

Smacky1 ~ I agree with Hersey, it would be helpful if we had a little more info on a budget for the hotel. As for inexpensive things to do, the Lincoln Park Zoo is free, Navy Pier is always fun just to walk around (maybe have lunch there). Also, the Field Museum is amazing, I'm not sure how much it is to get in these days though!

Everyone else ~ :flower3: have a wonderful day!

Morning all. Just flying by to say hello. Much to do today. Was lucky enough to get called off from work. I have 3 computer training days ahead in Barrington, so I need to pack for myself and lay out items for the kids for the next 3 days. DH just looked at me with the deer in the headlights look when he realized he would have to get kids up, dressed, lunches made and homework done 3 days straight. :rotfl2: So I decided to at least get clothes laid out for the kids and have as much ready as possible.

Slo, that is horrid about Sears. I do hope they make ammends ($$) for their poor service. Hopefully, you will love your new machine. You were very busy this weekend.

Smacky1, there are many things to do in the city. I would suggest Navy Pier, myself and then a walk along the waterfront. You can catch a trolley to the museums. The trolleys are free. If you sign up online with Metra, they will send you some coupons and some maps to help get you around.

Hi, Bunchkin, Rose, Mac, DG, ID, KimRaye, piglet, Hersey, Donna, geffric, and everyone else. I had best get moving here.
Winterdance was a success. I am glad it is over.
Boy, they really moved the smilies around. And still the cold one is on the next page.:confused3
Later all.

Hi guys! It's been quiet around the house today, both DDs slept over at my sister's house, her girls are the same ages as mine. They will be there all day too. DS is perfectly content to sit on the couch with his new Lego Star Wars game for playstation and now his sisters won't be bothering him, he'll love it. ;)

Anyone know how long WDW is going to do the birthday promo? Is it for 2009 only? DD11s birthday is in Feb and next year she'll turn 13, I'd love to take her down for her birthday. I don't think I can pull it together for this year.

piglet - sorry about the PC/TS mix-up. I knew you were a TS consultant, for some reason I got that mixed up with PC. How was the party?
*There are a lot of restaurants in the Lombard area, just east of Yorktown mall there is Webber Grill, P.F. Changs, Champs, Uncle Julio's. Then in the new area of Yorktown there is Capital Grill, Claim Jumpers, Adobo Grill. There is also Harry Carey's in the new Westin Hotel behind Yorktown.

slo - 11pm delivery :scared1: ! That would have totally set me off! We had a similar experience with AT&T getting our UVerse installed but it was no where near 11p.
*It works out great for each of them to have a friend over, that way no one is pestering the other trying to be included.

disneygal - glad you liked Bride Wars, do you think it would be appropriate for an 11yr old? DD wants to see it but I told her I needed to check it out first.

mac - thanks for the listings, haven't seen the Cirque de Soleil cake one. Will have to schedule that to tape.

smacky1 - welcome to the thread! There is lots to do in Chicago, deciding what will be the hard part. I agree about Navy Pier and the free trollys will take you to the museums. What is your budget for a hotel? They are pricy downtown but would be the most convenient to see/do everything.

roseprincess - ooohhh there's a Rosebud in Schaumburg now? I've been to the one on/near Taylor St and it is great. Will have to check that out for our next 'date night'.

I guess I'd better get my behind moving, time to change the laundry :laundy: . Hope everyone has a great day! :wave2:

Thanks everyone for being so helpful. We would be looking for $150 or less per night for a hotel. Im thinking we are going to priceline or hotwire a deal when the dates get closer. We really have no idea what we want to do. The Navy Pier sounds like a good place.....if you had visitors coming for a few days where would you take them? We may try to catch a show if there is one that interests us in our timeframe. We live in a small town so going to a city is a big ordeal for us....and we tend to get overwhelmed. We've done NYC and Montreal in the past. I was checking out the trolley tours where you can get off and on all day long....anyone think those are worth it? Thanks again for any input on what things are cool to check out.

If Wicked is still playing, that is an awesome show to catch. It is at the Oriental Theatre on Randolph Street.
If I were bringing company to the city, I would go to the Pier and then to the Field Museum or the Science and Industry Museum. Depends what you prefer-fossils, bones and mummies or physical/chemical sciences. Google them both and see what you'd like. I love the Shedd Aquarium, but many of the mammals were off exhibit this winter. I am not sure when the refurbishments are scheduled to be completed.
Weber Grill is a great place to eat. Not overly pricey, but the food is really good.
Also, just walking up Michigan Avenue is a great experience and if the weather is nice the weekend you come, there are great boat cruises (architectural cruises) on the Chicago River.

More snow!!!! :faint:
I better get my kids outside for their annual snow picture before it melts - then I'll be complaining that I have no snow:upsidedow

Who's watching The Inaugeration?
I would like to watch it online at work, but I do have a lot to do today, so I don't know yet. I'll be curious if Stephanie will watch it at school. I guess I'll soon find out.

DG - I'm glad you had an easy time getting to and from work yesterday. I bet it was nice after that craziness last week.

TTTTTTigern - I had to laugh about what you said about your DH, because Kevin would be the same way. Actually, because he leaves for work so early, my girls would have to stay with a Grandma, if I had to go out of town for a couple of days. When do you leave for your work trip?

ID - How was your nice, quiet day yesterday? I bet it was great!!!!:)

smacky - I agree with what Tiiigernnn said ::yes:: Don't forget to get some Chicago style pizza while you are there. You have Gino's East, Pizzeria Uno, Pizzeria Due, and Lou Malnati's. There are others, but these are the best - I've eatin at all of them:goodvibes

Mac - Are you getting alot of snow today?

Well, that's about it from me today - I need to go workout, even though I don't feel like it.
Have a good day!!!

Hey, all! Been busy here. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE has been home for the last week! Starting to get crazy here! Then I worked this weekend and had to come to the 'burbs for a baby shower.
Now...my Gma passed away yesterday morning. Wake and funeral Wed. and Thur. in the 'burbs. I have to do a reading. Please keep me in your thoughts that I can keep it together long enough to read at the church.
Bleh...you know how sometimes you don't want to go to work, school, etc? I don't want to go to life this week!
