Calling all Chicago DISers #2

This is just a quick check in for now.
The rain is causing a lot of havic in our town, and we are really worried about our own house. We have all the most important things out of the basement, and up in our living room/dining room. Kevin was suppossed to go to a race today in Indy, but he choose to stay home, because he is most needed here (the FD is worried about the hospital again - I don't know if you remember how it flooded last year, and had to be evacuated).

I'll try to check in again later.
Today is dedicated to doing nothing
I rented some movies for the girls and I to watch - it'll be a nice vegging out day!!! (as long as we don't flood)

Later gaters!!

**sorry, double post**

I had that happen last night too. And I *know* I only hit the button once. The board must be spitting up on itself with all this rain! :lmao:

Folks, I have to say this to you, because I can't say this to my children - I'm getting really nervous!!!!!!!

The retention area across the street is spilling over like a water flow into the creek and the street. The creek is overflowed, and is now getting extremely close to the house - I'm very nervous!!!!

I went downstairs (basement) and brought up all the boxes of pictures. In the family room (3rd level) is where I keep the photo albums, and I have also brought those upstairs. If we get water, I'm hoping the upstairs will be untouched. I just can't imagine something happening to my photos :sad1:

Kevin came here with a guy on the FD in his big pick-up, and said that he won't be able to come home in his car, because the water is to deep. If I have to leave, I'm hoping the van can get out, but I'm not leaving unless I really really have to.

This rain just won't let up, and my heart is pounding with a lot of nervous energy. I"m sorry to be such a downer, but like I said, I have to act unnervous for the girls sake, and I just had to discuss this with someone.

Gotta run and finish doing a couple things around the house

Hi All.. poppin in, hope you dont mind.

((Slo)) It looks like a couple more hours of rain as the last of Ike pushes through... sending water retention thoughts to you all.

Our sump is not keeping up, so we have our pool cover pump and a long hose out to the other side of the yard, plus using the wet vac to suck up from the pit what the sump cant, then running that out to the back yard. Wet towels everywhere, but no furniture or anything of value. We are weary after two solid days of it, but we are safe and mostly dry.

(We are near Brookfield Zoo and have had 9 1/2 inches of rain so far)

Hello...Long time WDW fan, but a newbie on a handful of other fronts. Pretty new to the DISboards (and chats in general), brand new to DVC (darn that Doorway To Dreams store!!!), and the biggie....new to the Chicago suburbs (and Illinios), having just moved here from Seattle with the fam back in April/May. So this seemed like the perfect thread to check out!!! So a big hi to everyone. Hope you're all keeping somewhat dry.

Slo I hope the flooding has stopped by you. I'm sorry this is happening so close to you. My neighbor's basement has water luckily it is going down. They are away on vacation and I'm house/cat sitting.

to the 3 new newbies over here!

kick off your shoes, put your feet up and stay awhile.

i had tenative plans to see my parental units last week, was going to leave on monday afternoon but ended up leaving sooner.
i figured if i was out of town, it would be a good thing.

i have 2 legs. one is what i call the good one and the other one is the bad one. 10 days ago my good one became another bad one just like the bad leg became around the 4th of july.

i spent a lot of time in the hospital earlier this month for the medical issues and decided to leave town early so i didn't have to deal with any decision making.........

going back to the doctor tomorrow and face the facts.
at this point, we're on first name basis :rolleyes1

i still have my trip planned.
i haven't been able to do anything about the planning, packing, arrangements, etc, but do plan to leave on that plane oct 2nd.

i'll make up for last weeks listing by catching it tonight and posting them for youse guys.

congrats on the new doggies that were adopted in my absence.
one of these days, someone will name their doggy mac.....

i figure at the rate i am going, i'll pack the 2 pairs of shorts i have for the motherland and darkside trip.
haven't been clothes shopping and it's not on my schedule for the next 2 weeks.

taking one son next week to have his wisdom teeth cut out.
he's on antibiotics now and on meds for it.
i can see it now....
one whiny adult son complaining about the pain and needing the mother's touch for his recovery.
no matter how old the sons become, they always want mom when they are sick or upset over something in their lives.

i'm stocking up on jello for this one....

i'm going back to ketchup on what i have missed.

i truly missed all of you and so glad to be back home tonight.

my parental units do not own a computer.
we bought them one 7 years ago and it just sat there.
mom gave it away 3 years ago.................:sad2:

Oh yeah? Nice!!! Which one? That Doorway to Dreams store is scary. I just walk in there and hear "cha-ching". I have this eerie feeling that we haven't made our last purchase there. :)

I live in Schaumburg. Live about 3 miles from Woodfield Mall. I don't go to Woodfield often, but when I go, I go more to The Disney Store than to Doorway to Dreams store.

Oh...very cool. I work in an office building right across the street from Woodfield....between the mall and Ikea. I'm dreading the traffic around there come the holiday season.

Welcome back, Mac!
Sorry to hear about your leg
And about your son
Yes, sons always need their mama, even Matthew gets like that with me :)

We have had 8 or 9 inches of rain here(don't know final count).
Hope everyone is surviving ok thru the rain/ flooding

Evening all. Sorry been MIA for a few days. Work has been busy and I have been a busy bee here at home.
Our lower level has remained dry these past days, but unfortunately our roof is showing its' true colors.:sad2: DD has a small leak in the corner of her room and we now have water marks on her ceiling and down one wall a small ways. Guess we let it dry out, bleach it and KILZ it and repaint and hope for the best. I am not sure if it was due to overfull gutters or if the roof is actually leaking. DH climbed up in her closet into the attic but said all appears dry up there.:confused3
On the upside, since we emptied out her closet so he could climb up there, I took the opportunity to clean out her room of all outgrown/never worn items and have 4 bags to send to my nieces.:woohoo: I love getting rid of things.
Welcome to our new friends here. :welcome: Be sure to come by often. We are a nice group.
Mac, welcome home. I knew we were missing you!! I hope you get some better news from your first-name-basis Doc. Good luck to your DS on his wisdom teeth removal. Had mine out at 19 and my darling mum had gone off for a visit with my sister and left me home with dear old dad.:rolleyes1 Just not the same. No real compassion there.
Slo, I sure hope you are doing OK over there. I took DD to ballet rehearsal in Griffith yesterday and went some of the back roads, lucky I guess since 80/94 had closed due to flooding. But even the back roads the ditches on either side were full to the brim and that was before Ike's rains hit us head on.:grouphug: I know what you mean about pictures. Ours are in the lower level as well and I had just said to DH that maybe we should bring them up to be safe, but then didn't. Thankfully, it was OK. I would hate to lose my photos. All that other stuff is replacable.
Hi, Rose, Hersey, Bunchkin, Crissup, Paint, DMM and everyone else.
Well, better get off of here. Another long day at work again tomorrow I am sure.
Stay well and dry!!!:wizard:

What a nightmare around here!!!
Poor Kevin, and the rest of the guys on the FD, they've been out since 10am yesterday morning. They've had to evacuate so many people in town. Buses were brought in to transport these people, but in order to get folks to the buses, they guys had to pick them up in a boat. The biggest problem is, there's no help from neighboring towns, because they all have their own problems. So we have 14 men/women to do this all alone. They are exhausted and very stessed out. Kevin isn't anticipating coming home until tonight. Normally he goes to work today, but he believes he wouldn't be able to get there, so he's not going.

Both girls have to school today either (the daycare even closed due to flooding). I"m wondering if I should even open the store - who's going to come:confused3 So, I don't know what to do :confused3 I can say that our house was spared from all this terriblness, thank God!!!! It was close, so very very close, but we were spared.

I'm asking this morning, for everyone to please keep all the emergency workers, not just Kevin, in your thoughts and prayers. They need them so much!!!! With being up 24 hours, they are still needed to drudge through waist deep water to help those in need, and while doing this, trying to keep a calm smile on their face to help calm the victims - it's not an easy job!!!!!:sad2: God Bless them all!!!!!!

DMM - I can't believe it's been a year since Roman was born - time flies!!!!!
**Poor Gabriel:guilty: I'm glad he didn't have an allergic reaction.

paint - I agree about housebreaking a puppy in the rain :umbrella: Unfortunately, even when Sophie is housebroken, I still have to go out with her, because of her size. Luckily, she went pretty fast when we went out, so we didn't have to be out for to long.

Update.......
Kevin just came home, because he said that him, and the guys, needed some rest, and he just got another call to evacuate someone again. So, he's now gone again. He said he's beyond tired, and he doesn't know where he's getting the energy from.

ID - Did you do a turkey breast, or an entire turkey in the crock pot. Would you please pm me with the exact receipe, so I can try it. We really like turkey in our house - thanks!!!!!:)

HERSEY - Were you able to get your basement done?

Bunchkin - Did you and Tony have a nice time at the jazz club? Happy slightly early anniversary!!!:goodvibes
**I can't go into to much detail about how much this town is NOT doing about these type of places in our town (you never know who is reading). All I can say, is they know about it, we've complained about it, and nothing is being done about it. In the grand scheme of things, there are other places in town that need work more than this, where people are losing their basements and more, and they need the towns attention even more. All I can say, is this town is going to have ALOT of very angry residents!!!!!
**I got your voicemail, and we'll talk really soon :)

KateandEmysMom (KE for short) - :welcome:
Please come by often, we would love to get to know you!!!!

Laura - I can't remember if you've stopped by here before, so I'll send you another :welcome:

futureWDWCEO - :welcome:
Please come by often too, so we can get to know you as well!!!

Mac - So many hugs to you!!!  You are in my thoughts and prayers!!!!

Tiiiiiiiiiiiigern - How is your area today? Does your town have a lot of flooding? You are so close to me.

To everyone else - :wave2:

Well, I should go take my shower, and get ready for work
I don't know why I'm going in today - no one is going to come:sad2:
Have a good day!!!

Morning..

SLO - how are you?? did you get water? Did Kevin work all night? IS school closed for you today?? I have been thinking about you everytime they show flooding in Munster or porter county.. Hope things are okay..
wait i see you posted... prayers for you..

we escaped without flooding and so did my brother in Des Plaines.. :woohoo: but many of the roads are flooded..

gotta get to work.. i'll stop by later..
