Calling all Aussie/Kiwi newbies.....

Some of the reputable rental places I would not trust either. Ask Sugarglider!

Wow, you would think they would be the safe ones. We are currently renting from someone off the Disboards. Just keeping our fingers crossed that it all goes well.

Tash...just make sure you print off all your resi stuff, did you use a credit card or paypal to pay? if so you may have insurance in case of a non-booking (god forbid)..

also (worse case) just have a back up plan AKA contingency money in case you need to stay at WDW if the dvc has fallen thru.....better to be prepared and not need plan A than get there and not have any idea what to do (or any money to do it).

Have you booked magical express???

I know that as a non-owner you cant ring and confirm the booking.....but it'll be fine:thumbsup2

The member makes the DME booking for the person renting. A renter can check their reservations here.

Our points rental last year turned up in my MDE alongside our other Disney bookings, with the option for online check in just the same as them when the online check in dates rolled around. I can't remember if I linked it in (with booking number) or it happened automatically, but it was too easy. That was through Davids.

I have been able to link the rented booking to my other booking in My Disney Experience. I also have a copy of the DVC booking and they also did a rental agreement. I paid through Paypal. I am feeling ok about it. I have spoken to them a few times on the phone as they had me on the phone while they rang DVC and booked the room for us. So I am not stressed about it.

But as you said Pumpkin Meme I will have a plan B just in case.

I have rented points several times now through 2 agents and 1 owner (being our own Aussie ColinA).

In my experience, the concept to remember is that you can't always get what you want.

Brokers are just mediators between the owner and the renter - but if they can't find an owner from the resort you want, then you are not getting the room.

David's I suspect is the largest so he gets the most traffic and you are more likely to get your desired booking, but he charges the highest rate.

Smaller brokers charge less but there is more risk that you won't get what you want.

The brokers will say "yep - i can get you the room" and take your deposit - but then the waiting game begins. Twice I have had a broker NOT get the room.

Once the broker also gave me a convoluted reason for why, and on doing a bit of research later I discovered he was talking through his hat. :sad2:

My other rookie hint is that they cannot combine points from multiple owners so it is WAY easier to go for smaller bookings than wait for someone with 400 points for a 2 bedroom villa to turn up - rare to happen.

I suppose you need patience, fortitude and Plan B

Despite all this work and organising, I now have 4 Boardwalk View studios booked for my group!! YEE HAA!:banana::banana::hyper:

Big thanks to ColinA - we somehow magically lined up our dates - and he has helped me out! :worship::flower3:

My only experience is with Davids, but I didn't find that they were in anyway misleading about whether they could get a room. In fact, they came back quite quickly to say that they couldn't, but I was happy for them to hold on to my deposit (less than $100) and see what turned up. That was a good move, and I got a Christmas week booking at the Grand Californian. :) I'd definitely recommend going that way if you are booking your holiday with plenty of notice. And look at it as throwing your hat in the ring, to see what will come of it. :)

My experience is similar to this, I sent my enquiry on the 7/12 paid my deposit and woke up to an email the next day saying i'd been put on a list and the expected time something would become available was February.

I was happy to wait on this list and got an email on the 9/12 (so 2 days later) to say my booking had been secured and please pay now :thumbsup2

So excited that we went this way, I can't wait to stay at the Boardwalk Villas :woohoo:

I too have had great service from both Davids and the DVC Rental Store. The latter does not charge you a deposit to search availability.

Expect the best..but plan for the worst...:confused3

just a depressed optimist I am...

:rolleyes1

Welcome SnowBianco to the Dis.

Even though you can't lock much in yet, there is still plenty of fun planning to do. :)

Have fun planning, SnowBianco.

:scratchin Does your handle mean that you considered NeveWhite as the alternative? (Or should that be WhiteNeve??)

I reckon it'll cost upwards of 20k for air and wdw. We are a family of 5 so researching options. Any advice appreciated!!!
