Make it three for three so far, I agree with Joanna and Darlene on this one.

Hi all,

Been lurking, just not posting. :rolleyes1 I hope everyone is feeling better, staying safe and warm, etc.

Terry, I have to agree with Joanna. I know you're oldest is a junior in high school, as is mine, and now everything related to high school is so critical with testing, college prep, etc. I'd want to know how this possibility of not being there might affect him. BTW, our high school does actually does give finals the last week of school and as I told my oldest, "Wow, back in the day we did nothing the last week of school"!! Ds did start his SAT review classes last Sunday. He goes again tonight. It's each Sunday and Wednesday until March 9, then he takes the SAT on March 12 -- the week before our Spring Break cruise on the Diamond Princess to the Mexican Riviera.

To everyone else -- hi.

Lisa :)

Terry

I agree too, with Joanna and all the others,no importent tests, no exams, hopefully no more snow days, no worries.

Sue

Thanks for the comments, everyone. It's exactly what I was thinking; that as long as the days off won't interfere with actual school work or tests, then I'm not going to worry about it.

Neither DSs have exams this year. DS13 is still in middle school and won't have exams until 9th grade next year. DS16 goes to the vo-tech and they don't do exams  He's in the Computer Tech shop and does have testing for certifications, so that's the one thing I'll have to check on. But going by the last 2 years of this class, they do the certification testing in May.

Thanks again for all of the comments :)

Terry, I agree with the others. I personally wouldn't sweat it. If anything, just check in early with the teachers and let them know about your trip. I'd add that this trip has been planned for quite a while and it would be very difficult to change the date. Hopefully they will understand, but if not - too bad. No one can control the weather (although I'm sure that you east coasters would really really like to).

BTW, for those of you with over 3 ft. of snow let me say that I really feel for you. I cannot imagine trying to dig out of that much snow at one time. I remember a really bad snow storm here in the late 70's. We lived in the sticks and it literally took the county 6 days to dig us out with bulldozers and back hoes. The drifts were up to our roof line.

Keep the faith. Only a couple of months until spring!

Take care all and be safe.

Denise in Chicago

Denise...It's funny that you are consoling us Easterners. Usually Illinois is bad with the cold and snow. Where abouts do you live in IL, My DH is going to Northbrook tomorrow, how is the weather going to be the next couple of days? He flies into Midway, then limo's it to either Northbrook or Buffalo Grove.

Keep warm all

Joanna

Joanna - I live in Buffalo Grove. Is your husband visiting a major insurance company with offices in BG and Northbrook by chance? If so, they are one of my clients. Small world.

Our last storm (which we sent east) gave us 12" of snow, some of which already melted. We had a little lake effect snow this morning; maybe 1". Other than that, the sun is now shining. The forecast is for lots of sun in the next few days, with temps in the 20's.

I'll continue to console you that live east. While our weather can get downright ornery in the winter, we really haven't had a ton of snow the last few years. Right at the bottom of Lake Michigan is where they consistently get a ton of snow, caused by their proximity to the lake. We only get the lake effect stuff occasionally when the wind is blowing from the east (like this morning).

Is it still snowing where you all are at? Any hope for a let up?

Denise

Yet ANOTHER snow day here :cold: One day closer to having to cancel our June cruise :sad2: :sad2:

Terri:

I know exactly what you are going through. Our trip is scheduled for 3 days after Matt graduates High School. I am praying that they don't have too many more snow days so that they don't have to change the graduation date. If he weren't graduating I wouldn't worry about it but there is no way I am missing him graduate. Usually if we take a lot of snow days they just cut down Easter break hopefully that is what they do this year if it comes to that.

Lyn, I feel so bad for you!! It's bad enough for me with just the regular end-of-school things, but with Matt's graduation this year, that's something you just can't miss. Hey, I have an idea! If we both have to cancel our cruises, let's reschedule one together for later in the summer ;)
But seriously, I hope Matt (and my sons!) have no more snow days so we can all go on our cruises. I hope our school system will consider what you mentioned, cut down on the week off in Feb and the week off in April.

What our school system does it first add snow days to the end of the school year. They go to a certain date, if that date is reached and more snow days are needed, then they start taking Spring Break days away.

This year however, for some unknown reason, the week of Spring Break was changed to having Wed., Thurs., Good Friday and Easter Monday off. We normally have the whole week off leading up to Easter. So the kids only have four school days off for Spring Break instead of five school days.

Denise

Denise, wow it is a small world, No, he isn't visiting any insurance company's but to think, that of the whole state of IL he visits where you live LOL He usually stays at the Wyndham Buffalo Grove, but this time he is staying at the Renaissance in Northbrook.

A high of 10 degrees today, is it April yet and time for me to go to WDW?

Terry and Lyn, our school does the same thing, takes away from Spring Break, it has never added days on to June. So there is hope.

Joanna

They've never taken days off of winter or spring break here, but I'm hoping this year they will.

The kids have a week off in February AND a week off in April. They don't need 2 more weeks off! But I remember this happening a few years ago where we had a week of snow days in January and they DIDN'T take any of the vacation days away, the kids ended up going longer in June. As of now, they are at a full extra week of school. And we're supposed to get a LOT of snow next week, too. :cold:  :faint: :scared:

Terry...You can do the same thing I am planning to do in the summer, I plan to take a week off in August and do all New York things. As I say that, I am checking out resorts in the Dominican Republic. Damn, its cheap there with an all inclusive but the airfare is a whopper. Close to $500 per person, the resort "Breezes" is only $1,440 for the 4 of us and that is All Inclusive.

Maybe I'll try the LI beaches or the Jersey shore and visit my friends :wave2: there.

Terry...How much MORE snow are you expecting next week and which day?

Joanna

Terry,

The last thing you need up there is more snow!!! :scared1:  :scared1: :faint:

I must add my condolences to Denise's for all of you guys on the east coast.
After a couple of weeks of unseasonably cold (and snowy) weather, we've been breaking record highs (and dealing with flooding) ever since.

I know that ALL of the local skiers are totally irrate. The season opened rather late this year and several of the ski areas have had to close down (after only 4-6 weeks open) until we get more snow in the mountains. There's bare ground showing!

I'm impressed by the pictures you guys have posted of the snow. It reminds me of one winter that we lived in Utah. We had snow like that. We've got a picture of my brother, at age nine, standing more than waist deep in the snow. Good thing that the little dog we had back then was jet black or we'd have lost him in the snow.

I took a picture in the last couple of days too... But I'm afraid to post it. I don't want to offend anybody (primarily those who are snow-bound). We had the most gorgeous sunrise the other day. I got a shot of the orange and pink sky above the tree-line in my back yard.

I hope that everyone stays WARM and SAFE!
If you have to go out, please be careful!

Dori :cool1:

We're going down to about "0 degrees" with wind chill factors of -10 to -20 degrees tonight. It's going to be a "three blanket night." The old record low for this date was 3 degrees above zero, looks like we might break it tonight.

Come on Spring!!!!! :flower: :sunny:

Joanna:

Did you try Apple Tours for the Dominican Republic. My boss just used them this summer and got a great deal which included their air USA3000. :sunny:
