My sentiments exactly. Thanks Doreen. Carmen, Lurking... I agree with Doreen, she may like the phone calls. LOL

Well guys, it started snowing last night. I expected worse for this morning, but there's probably only 2-3 inches on the ground. There's much more to come - just in time for the after school / evening rush. Now they're telling us 8 - 12 inches total by tomorrow morning.

Guess it really is winter in Chicago. We were spoiled - it was 57 degrees the day before New Year's Eve. Now its 1 inch of salt for every 1/2 inch of snow.

Doreen - we started with the sleet, but thankfully it didn't last long. Just enough to make things icy under the snow, but not too bad. Good luck - this looks to be a big storm.

Denise

Guess what?

The weather forecasters around here are talking a possibility of snow for us up here in the northwest by Friday. Our normal daily high in the winter tends to be in the mid-to-upper fourties. This week I don't think that we've broken the 40 degree mark. (The high for today is supposed to be 36 degrees.) We currently have a huge cold front from Canada sitting over the top of us and there is another moist front building over the Pacific. This morning I even heard that the forecasters are speculating whether this storm will match the one in 1950, when the Seattle area got 21 inches of snow. Boy, won't that be a mess! For those of you that don't know, the Seattle area has hills that rival San Francisco. So, it doesn't take too much ice and snow to cause major problems. Since we don't normally get snow, we don't really have the equipment to deal with it (the number of snow plows and sanding trucks is very limited). I have to admit it would just 'break my heart' (said with sarcasm) to get snowed in for a three days weekend.

Dori

Well, as usual, in SE PA we get rain instead of snow. I prefer the snow mainly because it doesn't run into my basement!!! But it has been raining here all morning and is supposed to continue all day. The high temp is about 44 so it will stay as rain. YUCK!!! :umbrella:

Denise, I am jealous of the snow......to me winter should be winter not this stuff we have had. 65 degrees on New Years Eve Day. We were outside in tshirts playing basketball in the driveway.

Hope you all are having a good first week back to the ol' routine.

Denise

No snow or ice here in Nassau, only plenty of sun and temps reaching 80 degrees this afternoon, this is the life in January!!!

Hazel said to say hello, she is sitting here right next to me doing her word search puzzles. We are having a MAGICal time!!!

Later,

Andy and Hazel

Looks impressive I know but it's about all I know in Welsh apart from a few other phrases I am ashamed to say.

Hope you are all well. Weather here today very wet and windy. Back to normal here now with regards to work although it was very moving today as we held a three minute silence for all the victims and their familes of the Tsunami tragedy. Very Sad.

Hi again to all those who have been lurking, good to see you back posting, hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year break.

Doreen: So glad you found Mary Rose, hope she is well and cant wait to see her back. Loved your picture from NYC, would loved to have been there with you all.

Denise: We had approx 10 snowflakes on Christmas day, which lasted all of......5 minuets lol, so not so much of a white Christmas over here. We dont cope well with snow over here as we are not really used to it, more than 1 inch and everything grinds to a halt.

Dori: Hope you are well, and that you get the weather you want. Glad you enjoyed the lion King show.

Andy: So good to hear from you, glad you are enjoying the cruise and that the weather is good. Say hello to Hazel for me. What room are you in?

Just booked tickets for myself and Vicki to go and see Sleeping Beauty on ice at the new Wales Opera House, which has just opened aroound the corner from me. They held the opening concert just before Christmas in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen, The Duke of Edinbrugh and The Prince Of Wales. Would loved to have gone but tickets were priced way way above my budget, still we are looking forward to Sleeping Beauty which I will let you all know about.

Best wishes to everyone else and hope you are all well.

It is nice to know that people all over the world are taking time to reflect on the tragedy and I hope that people realize even the smallest contribution to the relief effort is tremendous.

Sandy's school has organized a Walk-a-Thon for money to send for relief for the victims of the Tsunami. She came to my office building today and my fellow employees were generous. If anyone doesn't know where else to contribute, and feels led to, she would be glad to sign you up as a sponsor. If you have a local reputable organization I encourage you to support their effort. I can't fathom the magnitude of destruction and loss. I am very proud of Sandy for wanting to do something within her capacity to help.

Darlene

I agree with Darlene, if you can afford to contribute monetarily, do it!
If not, the contribution of prayers is always helpful.

The company I work for is a large fortune 500 company with over 100,000 employees worldwide. We found out on Monday that all of our employees in the disaster area are okay (Thank God!). Our company has already pledged $100,000 PLUS they will match dollar-for-dollar all contributions made by employees through the end of the month. Our local office is planning a soup and salad fundraiser luncheon in the next week. It will be interesting to see how much money we can come up with.

As horrific as this disaster was, I'm glad to see that it has made a strong positive impact on a lot of our young people. (Way to go Sandy!) There are three brothers here in Seattle (the oldest is 9) that decided to sell some of their Christmas presents on eBay and donate the money. Unfortunately, they didn't follow the directions for running a charitable contributions auction and eBay closed down their auction. However, the highest bidder lived up to his side of the bargain anyway. The news last night showed the boys personally delivering the cash to the charitable organization. They handed over $1050.

We were also having a discussion in the office this morning about other countries complaining about the 'small amount' of monetary aid that the U.S. is contributing. One of my coworkers pointed out that the $350 million from the government does not include - military aid (helicopters), people going over to assist (medical personel, etc) or the contributions of private citizens like ourselves. For many of the countries complaining, the only contribution being made is the one being made by the government. So, don't let their bad-mouthing of the U.S. get to you, we all know better, even if they don't.

I just have to share this with you all. Our youngest, Stephen, came home from school yesterday. Next week each homeroom class is taking collections to help the Tsunami victims. It's called something like "Give a Dollar a Day." So I told him I'd give him $5. I then told him that we (dh and I) are giving money to the Red Cross because even though we're not "rich" we have so much and are so thankful for what we have. He seemed to digest it all but what surprised me that most was this morning he came up to me and said "You know the $100 that Grandma gave me for Christmas? I don't want to put it in the bank, I want to get it to the Tsunami victims." It just brought tears to my eyes.

WTG SANDY!!!! are local TVs are having telethons tonights,, and our local Church DIOCESE are having second collections throughout this weekend for the victims. I can not imagine the tragedy.... Those in NYC can understand it after 911.. but this is on a higher magnitude as well. And once again no warning and all innocent people.
GOD BLESS them all!! :grouphug:

OK. What do you say we give MARY ROSE another 8 hrs to check in and than I give her number out one number at a time,,lol any takers???lol Joanna, Darlene, Terry,Lynn.....

SUE.. we have no snow at all... maybe tonight after midnight we may be hit...Denise... is it coming from you ??

Ok my 1/2 hour of peace is over time to pick up Daniel bring him home and back to get Jaclyn from Volleyball.. :flower1:

Have a safe night
Doreen

Our local radio said if you donate to the Red Cross you should earmark it to go to the victims of the Tsunami, otherwise it will go to a general fund, which isn't bad either.

Doreen...Pass on Mary Rose's number, one number at a time or 2 numbers at a time. I'm ready.

Joanna

Hi everyone

Darlene - how's Sandy today?

Doreen - how's Daniel and Jaclyn?

Hope everyone gets better soon. I was just diagnosed with acid reflux and the doctor put me on Protonix. Hopefully it'll work.

Denise - I love receiving presents but I won't be upset if you don't send us the snow in Philly. LOL

Andy - glad it's in the 80's. Thanks for rubbing it in. Have a great time.

Just booked the Carnival Glory for 8/20/05 followed by a week of timeshare in Kissimmee (Orange Lake Country Club). Lindsay took her first steps there so Orange Lake holds great memories for me.

I need everyone's advice. Last year, when I did DCL we stayed at Comfort Inn and I had rented a car. This year I'm not renting a car so I would like to know where you recommend to stay the day before the cruise and how to get to the port. Thanks for your help.

Have a great one.

Bev...How funny, If I booked a cruise this year it was going to be on the 8/20/05 Glory. I was just speaking with Carnival last week about it. Can you please let me know who you booked with and any details you care to share with me.

Thanks
Joanna

DOREEN - I'm in for a tag team call to Mary Rose!

LISA - Kudos to Stephen (and the parents who raised him). It is the inhumane tragedy that brings out the humanity in even our youngest. God bless him for his sacrifice.

BEV - Sandy has a note to return to school tomorrow, but she won't be going to Aftercare. They said she could keep a water bottle at her desk. Poor thing did 3 days of classwork and 3 nights of homework in 1 1/2 days. And she wanted to study her vocabulary again before bed! I told her we would do it in the morning because she must have been saturated.

Stan won't be cleared for chemo (or anything else) for at least 6 more weeks. He's hanging in there.

DORI - Thank God for companies like yours.

ANDY - What do you think of Nassau?

Darlene

Joanna - It would be great if you did the Glory 8/20 with us. I would love to meet you and your family. After checking 6 different travel agencies, I finally booked directly with Chris at Carnival 1-800-819-3902 X82425. I've used him for the past 4 Carnival cruises and very happy with the service he provides. If you call him, please tell him Bev Weiss recommended him. (I get nothing but I like to let him know that I think he's good so I recommend him to others). I booked an oceanview on 6B (assigned not a guarantee) and the total for 4 is $3040. I have the prices for the other catagories if you are interested. Also, in the Entertainment Book there is a coupon for $100 off a cabin. Hope this helps. I'll be glad to answer any other questions. Please come. :Pinkbounc
