Caller ID and screening

I screen, and I never answer unknown numbers. Of course I don't answer either way, normally! I just call everyone back when I feel like it! :teeth:

Same here!

DH and I both get a lot of recrutiment calls (we both have active licenses in professions in which we no longer practice)--in fact, we get more calls from recruiters than from friends/family! If we're home, we will quickly hit "answer" and then "hang up" so the phone will stop ringing. Otherwise it goes to voice mail.

I also don't return calls from people I know if they don't leave a voice mail. I figure if they want me to call them back, they need to leave a voice mail

It depends on my mood...I screen the calls and panic if caller ID doesn't work for some reason and I don't know who is calling, but if I suspect that the caller is trying to sell something and I'm in the right mood I will often pick up just for the fun of it. :teeth:

I prefer to have anyone who might call me on my cell phone in my cell phone book so their name will come up on my caller ID if they call so I don't panic over an unknown call.

So yes, I do screen the calls using the caller ID, but I almost always answer the call.

Did you ask something else, too? :rotfl:

After posting on Tigger&Belle's "phone issues" thread, I have another question.
How many of you screen your calls with caller ID and won't answer it if you don't know who it is? I won't, except in very few instances. T&B did call me the other day and I answered! Caller ID only gave a phone number and the state she lived in, but she has just told me in an IM that she was going to call! If I hadn't known, I wouldn't of answered it! Iwill say it does leave me wondering sometimes who called. But then I figure if they didn't feel it important enough to leave a messege, then it must not be important to me.
Also, does anyone else leave phone numbers that they want to save, in Caller ID? Sort of like a built in phone book!

Do you have any idea how close I just came to calling you just to freak you out! :rotfl: Ask Paige...I'd do it... :rolleyes1

I screen every call never answer a unknown or out of area call and I don't have an answering machine so they can't even leave a message.

Anyone that needs to contact me would also have my cell and can reach me that way.

I screen all calls.
And the few weak moments I did pickup without doing so ...I've regretted:sad2:

Yes I screen my calls. I won't answer if I don't recognize the name or if it's "unknown" or if it's my MIL. I figure if it's important, they can leave a message. If I notice that the same number has been calling repeatedly without leaving a message, I might answer it just to get them to stop.

I don't have caller ID (too cheap) but I do screen my calls through the answering machine. If they don't leave a message, it could not have been that important. I look at it this way - just because they have found a convenient time to call me does not mean that it's a convenient time for me to talk, so I note the call and call back later.

I always answer the phone if it comes up unknown or out of area or just shows a number. With my son living overseas it comes up a variety of ways. Plus with the boys always on the go they could be calling from a wide range of places. Now, if a call comes in and I know who it is and I don't want to talk with them, then I will let it ring.

Same here! Unknown numbers do not bother me. Its not quite the same as opening the front door. ;)

Yes, I am another one who screens calls with the caller ID. As others said if it is someone I don't want to talk to I just don't answer it. Or if I don't recognize the number I won't answer.

I screen calls as well. Our phone service provider is through our Cable service. Whenever anyone calls, the # pops up on the top corner of the tv screen - I LOVE THIS!!!

I hate it when the kids answer it anyway:mad: :) . I have to yell through the house - "DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE!!!"

Okay - Now that sounds cool.

A long time ago I had a Microsoft phone that ran thru my computer. We could program peoples numbers into the system and the computer who say who was calling out loud or whatever we programed in for people. That was a lot of fun.

I screen my calls and don't answer if I don't know the number.

That's what I do. I do listen for a message in case it's really important. If it is, I pick up.

We have voice mail through our phone service provider, so no answering machine, so no listening to message as they leave it.

I don't have caller ID on my home phone. It doesn't bother me. If I am home, and not busy, I answer the phone. I guess I don't have the huge amount of calls some of you must have. I do have a no solicitation feature on my home line that blocks solicitors and we are on the Do Not Call list. Can't remember when I got a telemarketing call last. Thank goodness.

What I do hate is when I have called people legitimately...like they have asked me to call them back...and to me, it's very obvious that they use Caller ID and decide they don't want to talk to me. Why have a phone if you aren't going to answer it?

And what about people who move or get a new number...are you going to ignore them when they call the first time to let you know that they have a new number? I had my SIL ignore me when I was coming to pick her up because I had never called her house with my cell phone. She ignored it because she didn't recognize it. I'm sitting outside her apartment building, waiting for her, after calling twice. In the meantime, she calls her brother, my DH, wanting to know why I am late. I'm sorry...I think Caller ID can have it's uses, but most people use it to ignore others and not for legitimate purposes like telemarketers or teenagers doing prank calls.

I also do not like people who just assume that EVERYONE has Caller ID because they do...Um, hello? If you aren't someone I call on a regular basis, your number isn't coming right off the top of my head. If you want me to call back, leave a number to call you back with.

Sorry...I really dislike Caller ID because I think it allows people to just be rude to others. Just how I feel and not trying to flame anyone here, but not everyone thinks this is the greatest service since sliced bread.

Not only don't I answer if I don't know who it is I don't always answer when I do know who it is (does that make any sense :rotfl: ).

OK, CED, if I picked up my phone right now and called you, would you answer? :rolleyes1

I have very affectionate feelings for my caller ID.
