Called to book Soarin' Around the World Member Tour at DL

We have had to buy two 5 day passes to give us 10 days on our 12 night stay :sad2:

Last time I checked, it looked like it is cheaper to buy the deluxe AP than to buy two 5-day passes. I'll have to check the prices again. I would love to find a way to spend about the same amount on our DLR tickets as we do on 10-day tickets at WDW, but I'm afraid it will be significantly more....

Edited to add.....Okay, I just checked and since we will want park hoppers, it would be cheaper to buy the deluxe APs. If we didn't want park hoppers, buying two 5-day tickets per person would be cheaper.....Plus we will have to buy an additional one-day ticket on top of our APs, since we want to go on a blocked Sunday. We're okay with having our second Saturday blocked and we can go on our first Saturday since we will be activating it that day. But we don't want to have a whole weekend blocked, so we will buy one-day tickets for that blocked Sunday. We are going to end up spending a ridiculous amount of money thanks to there not being any 10-day passes:(

This tour is well worth doing. It lasts one hour and the guide provides you with lots of information about the mechanics, engineering and animation behind the ride.

The group (20 in ours) get taken onto the ride and then afterwards, the best bit, you literally go behind the screen and watch what happens while the ride is in progress. It was quite a surprise to see how 'high up' the ride lifts you. The first row is 65 feet up, the third 25 feet and it's really cool watching everyone enjoy the ride and seeing the projection in reverse. You also learn how the illusions of speed, scent and turning are created and get to touch the screen (metal mesh).

We had a legacy cast member doing the tour and he really knew his stuff. The hour went very quickly. No photos allowed during the ride or when the tour is taken directly behind the screen. However, the group is then taken to a room off the back and there are mock up models and schematics for the ride and photos can be taken. We also had the opportunity to sniff the various smells unleashed on the ride which were passed around, in small canisters, to the group. Would love to do the tour again and wish it would be introduced to WDW too.

I called this morning to book the tour at DL. Member Services told me last month I could only book at 60 days out and I confirmed the booking date with them. When I called exactly at 9 AM EST and to book for February 8, I was told there was no availability on the date I wanted! Either I was provided misinformation, their system is all messed up or 20 people could make ressies before I could?? Something's not right. I'm not happy...:mad:

Had anyone else had this experience?

Perhaps they were not doing a tour on your date? Otherwise, you are right, if there was a tour for your date it makes no sense why it was not available at 9:00 am Eastern.

No, Member Services acknowledged there was a tour scheduled on my date (only on Wednesdays each week), just no availability. She even spoke to a supervisor about it because it didn't make sense that the system was showing the tour on that date was all filled. I'm still scratching my head. Gotta let it go, I guess.

It could be that a few members got in before you and they are bringing people with them. I remember when the tour first started, a lot of people were shut out even though they called at 9.

When you think about it, several CMs could be taking the calls at the same time and some might be faster accessing the available slots.

Even though it's a DVC event I actually suspect it didn't open up for reservations until 9am pacific time. Or, more likely 8 am. I'D think it would follow the DL booking system - especially since the 60 days already indicates its doing that.

It's not uncommon across disney to be told something is filled when it hasn't even opened for booking.
