Looking to move our reservation for September from a standard view at BLT (where we are currently booked) to a standard studio at the Polynesian at the 7 month mark. Is it better to call MS to make the switch or go online right at opening? Will waiting that hour between online opening and MS opening be that critical for a poly in mid September?

Either way you will need to cancel your current reservation to book the new. I would do it online if you know there is availability. If you are not sure wait for MS to do everything an hour later.

Do you have enough points to hold both reservations? Or do you need the points from one released in order to book the other?

Not enough points to hold both reservations. I will look at availability when we get a little closer. I was hoping the sheer number of studios would make getting one somewhat easier.

Mid-Sep is part of DVC's low to moderate demand "off-season" at WDW that runs from mid-Jan to late Sep. Thus far, for 2016 during that season (now through first part of Aug), Poly studios have been easy to get at 7 months out and even 6 months out. The same should happen for the time you want and thus it should not make a difference which process you choose to switch rooms.

Thanks!

I did this yesterday and I would definitely call. The CM in MS told me they now have the ability to amend your reservation so that while they are changing the resort you do not lose your current reservation. She scolded me for trying to do it myself because I could have lost mine, and almost did, but she was able to fix it. I am only going by what I was told and have no proof if she was right but have to believe in this instance she would not lead me astray

I prefer to do things online if possible but sometimes you do have to call.
