Call MS or not?

First a confession - I am a renter of DVC points:) That being said, I seek the collectve wisdom of this board. I'm trying to be a good renter, so when MVMCP tix went on sale I called the regular WDW-DISNEY phone line, not MS to order my tix. The problem came when the nice CRO person asked for my confirmation number and after I gave it to her, she said that it was an invalid number. I mentioned that I had rented DVC points and she said "that's probably the problem." Not a problem ordering these tix but after I hung up it occurred to me that I might have some future problems. So my questions:

1) Is it normal for DVC confirmation numbers not to show up on the "regular" computer system?
2) When I call to make ADR's, how will WDW-DINE know i'm 180 days out if I'm not in their system?
3) Do you think I should call MS to straighten this out? I know some members do not like this option.

Some might suggest that the member call for me, but as far as the ADR's go, I feel that Plan B or C might need to be employed at times and that just gets too confusing and time-consuming for the member. Does that make sense?

I appreciate your thoughts,

CRO has never had the DVC confirmation numbers, so that's not a problem. Usually, I call the regular dining number rather than MS, because I don't want to tie up MS with dining reservations, so I don't see an issue there. I usually tell the dining person I have a DVC reservation, and what my dates are and they take it from there. I always assumed there must be some way for them to check, because I always get my ADRs and special tickets just fine on the regular Disney number.

As long as your name is on the ressie Member Services allows and encourages you to call. Do not hesitate no matter what you read on these boards. And if MS can't help you with something they'll simply tell you.

Having rented points should have no bearing on your confirmation number. Is the reservation in your name? You should have a copy of it..

I don't understand why CRO needed your confirmation # for MVMCP tickets. Did they go on sale early for WDW resort guests?

I agree! No way shouold CRO need your confirmation number to sellyou MVMCP tickets - those are available to everyone.

I believe CRO/WDWTC always ask if you are staying on site and if so, the name of the resort. They are just collecting data - unless you are trying to do the 180 +10 deal. For that, you are supposed to be staying on site. I do not recall any DVC member having trouble making 180+10 ADRs after telling the CM that the confirmation number is from a DVC reservation. If I encounter a problem making mine, I plan to ask for a supervisor.

To the OP - use the regular dining number to make your ADRs. This is a better option anyway because MS is only open M-F and the WDW-DINE is open longer hours as well as being open on the weekends. If you are trying for anything popular, you will be at a disadvantage if you go through MS. For those who may not know, there are toll free number to reach the Dining CMs.

Best wishes -

I, like Diane, call WDW-DINE for my dinner reservations. Like her, I tell them I am staying DVC, give the dates, and never had a problem. Heck, I just made a reservation at Crystal Palace for 30 for Oct. 30 through group dining and didn't have a problem.

I had no problem when I ordered my MNSSHP & MVMCP tickets. They came in the mail yesterday. Never asked for my confirmation number either. Good thing since I'm staying with friends on their points this year (last year my points, this year theirs) and don't have it.

I greatly appreciate the quick replies.

Diane- Thanks, your experiences are reassuring.

Carol- The reservation is in my name.

Debbie- I really don't know why they wanted the confim # but she did ask if I was staying on-grounds. Perhaps some statistical data?

rinkride- I'll take your advice into account, but I think I will call WDW-DINE.

I generally call the regular WDW numbers rather than MS for most things, especially hard ticket events like MVMCP and MSNSHP, also Candleight Processional and other special events..MS really doesn't handle those and you would have to be transferred anyway.
