Call me paranoid, never riding outdoor rides during fireworks

No, I expect they'll probably just (very) temporarily suspend operation of the mine ride during the fireworks, until they get some more sprinklers installed on top of the mountain. Then the sprinklers will run during the fireworks, just as they do on the roofs of the Fantasyland buildings (haven't you ever noticed them dripping?).

Very smart about the sprinklings. No, never noticed. We were just at Disney for our first time just over a week ago and were at the fireworks itself. So didn't see the safety precautions at the other rides. Good to hear they have such a thing.

Tiny chance, as the PP said, taking such a risk averse approach to life isn't worth the slight odds.

I'm hoping that this doesn't stop them running SDMT during Wishes. We rode BTMRR during Wishes which was lovely, but riding SDMT was just amazing, you're just surrounded by lights everywhere you look. it was glorious. :wizard:

I've yet to ride it and now I definitely want to ride it at night!pixiedust:

My FP+ window opened right after the fire last night - I got FP's for 7DMT for 5 out of the 5 days & times I wanted them!! 4 of those are scheduled right around Wishes and I'm not worried at all. :thumbsup2

Getting hit by hot embers seems like such a remote possibility that I wouldn't think twice about riding an outdoor MK ride during Wishes.

With that being said, I have been hit with blowing ash from Illuminations' pyrotechnics. The last time this happened was in 2008 on one of the fireworks cruises. The wind shifted suddenly and several people got ash in their eyes and on their clothes. Burned (not heat but irritation) a little bit but we got over it.

Life is too short to fear one off events in controlled surroundings. :cool1:

One of our favorite Wishes viewing spots is being in FantasyLand. The fireworks are directly overhead, it's loud, bright, exciting- it's just like being IN the fireworks! Such an amazing experience!

We've stood in the Fantasyland area in back of the castle for Wishes and had debris and the papers from the fireworks land on us. Ditto for the preferred viewing area for Illuminations. We were fine.

Yeah could happen anywhere. Actually I was once hit by an ember watching the fireworks at MK in the eye! And I wear glasses! I got it out by later that night, but I realized it could happen at any time. It was a windy night and I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. We've been to WDW more times that I can count and it was the one and only time it happened. Didn't stop me from going back. You can't worry about everything.

I agree. I got an ember or something in my eye (up under my glasses) while watching the fireworks from the bridge to Frontierland last week. Fortunately, that far away it wasn't very hot but it hurt until the next day.

This is the second fire in NFL caused by the fireworks. I questioned after the first one that Disney might need to address this because of how close it now was and the foliage on Little Mermaid and Seven Dwarfs. I hope they do not shut the section down during Wishes.

I've ridden BTMRR during the fireworks and I enjoyed it.

It's far away from the fireworks so maybe you want to try that sometime.

I've been hit by embers and it stings. I wouldn't worry too much about it though because it didn't hurt just a short time later. I would hate to get hit in the eye though.

Highly doubt it. Greater chance they would have cast members stationed with extinguishers before closing ride. Fireworks 365 times year sometimes 2x a night, I think overall Disney has it under control and will adjust as needed.

Oh no! Glad no one got hurt. We just rode Seven Dwarfs during the fireworks a few weeks ago and it was wonderful. We even stopped for a few minutes on the tracks and got to watch the fireworks. Truly magical!!!

I would never have thought that embers from Disney fireworks could cause what happened at 7DMT last night. What if that landed in a mine cart someone was riding?

Actually it would have been better if it landed in a car. Then it would have been extinguished right away or not even have found anything flammable to smolder in.

It's not like it's a fireball that is falling out of the sky unless something has truly gone wrong with the burst - it's just little embers floating down.

About 15 years ago, the 2 homes surrounding my brother in law's house started on fire due to mortars from the town's fireworks show landing on the homes, starting fires. There were high winds and multiple defective fireworks, and these homes were like 5 blocks from the launch site. My poor brother in law sprayed the roofs with his garden hose while we called 911 and the park district (who ran the display) as we continued to get pelted by the mortars and embers. My guess is that the 7DMT fire was due to a bit of a firework casing or mortar hitting the facade, rather than just an ember. I have been behind the castle during "Wishes" and have seen embers come all the way to the ground, but embers tend to die out quickly. At Disneyland, they shut down Fantasyland during the fireworks when we were there in 2011, but maybe because California is such a tinder box any way. WDW seems safe...they do 365 plus fireworks shows a year with no injuries or accidents...but UGGGHHHH how awful those vids of the ride burning looked!

You have better odds of being hit by a car tomorrow while driving to work than an ember large enough to cause real damage landing in your ride vehicle while it is moving.

I choose not to be paranoid about anything. To me, it's not a healthy way to live. To each their own though.

If a hot ember falls on me during a ride will it appear on my photopass? ;)
