Call for Reservations vs Website?

I have a friend wanting to book a room at one of the value resorts 9/9-9/13 and the website has very little to no availability. Has anyone had success calling Disney and finding out that there is actually more availability than what can be seen on the website? Or does he just need to keep checking daily? He wants to get something booked by July 11th so he can book 60 day FP+.
 
In my experience, the folks on the phone are looking at the same thing you are looking at. I have a situation where all my nights are available individually, but not together, and they were seeing the same thing. My advice is to just keep checking, and hope something comes up. No, calling will not find rooms that aren't there. Unfortunately, it's rather late to book for those dates
One option is to look for a 3rd party site like Expedia or Orbitz. They sell blocks of rooms they buy from Disney so they can have inventory when Disney shows none.
And keep checking. People cancel reservations every day. So I'd check every single day for an opening. And even be willing to change resorts maybe, 3 nights at one and 2 nights at another, if it comes down to it

Yes, you sometimes can get more on the phone than on the website. The reason is that sometimes the computer system is programmed to mandate a certain length of stay for certain dates, etc. But a CM on the phone (with the help of their manager) can override that.

For example, a certain resort & room category (ex: Beach Club garden view) might show up as having no availability for 9/9 - 9/13, but then when you check individual dates, you find availability at that same resort & room category for 9/9 - 9/10, 9/10 - 9/11, 9/11 - 9/12, and 9/12 - 9/13. In other words, there is availability for your dates, but the computer's programming won't book it. In those cases, yes, the phone reservations people can handle this for you, so you can book one reservation rather than several separate reservations. I've had them do this for me, and it took about 10-20 minutes on the phone as they processed it on their end.

So check the individual days within your dates for a resort & room category that you want. If all the individual dates are available for that resort & room category, then call in and ask reservations to help you book it.

It's Free Dining during those dates. This year since moderates only got QSDP many folks moved to value resorts to save the money and get same plan. There is likely no rooms without great flexibility or willing to pay top dollar. I've been looking myself through Sept/Oct dates and minimal is open.
 
Okay, after checking the website this morning to no avail, I told him to try calling just to see. He called Disney this afternoon and a standard room at Pop had became available! For the rack rate price... but at least he was able to book something at a value! Thank you all for your help and input!
