Call back from mammogram

I will keep you in my prayers.

I recently had my mammogram done. I got a letter to make an appt for more pictures and ultra sound. So 2 weeks later i had my appt. Then I got a call back for a biopsy. I've been told I have calcification so they wanted to biopsy it. I just had it done so now i have to wait 3-4 days for results.

When i had to go back for more scans and ultra sound I htought that would be it but getting a call back for biopsy really stressed me out. If result are cancer I rather wait to be notified until after christmas but i know i have to schedule my appt, secretly inside I hope i get a letter or call saying no need to make an appt all is fine.

Good luck to everyone and I will keep ya;ll in my prayers

Oh I hope all is well! They are usually fast at getting back to you, so my guess is you will know before Christmas, but if it is good news (as it probably will be) that will make Christmas merrier! They should call though instead of a letter. That is what they did with me. This seems too important to tell you in a letter.

I got a call back this past summer. I was so stressed for the few days I had to wait to go back. I had another mammogram one one side (more views) and an ultrasound. I knew immediately when she did the ultrasound that is was fluid filled cysts. They show up as dark ovals/circles. They measured the three of them. The radiologist came in after he saw the pictures and told me they were just benign cysts. He also said I had some small calcifications that didn't appear to have changed in the last 6 years. I'm 52 and have only had two mammograms.

The vast majority of call backs are nothing. Every woman I know has had to go back. I have one friend who has had to go back every time and she's been going for 15 years.

Hi, I can help out some. The lady you talked to on the phone is right and so is everyone else here that previously mention it is not uncommon to be called back in for additional test. If she said that the areas are round then that lessens the chance of anything more serious. Cyst are round and cyst don't turn into cancer. Most of these areas get " smooshed" out with a mammo called spot compression. If it doesn't then usually on to an ultrasound( some are done the same day) if the ultrasound shows up something that isn't cystic then it is up to you and your doc to follow it or biopsy it. Each facility, doc, and person is different so this senerio is different for everyone. Hope this helps and let us know what happens and if you have anymore questions I may can help:)

Oh thank you for all your help!

I'm trying to stay positive. Tomorrow morning at 8:00 is my appt so I will update you after!

THANK YOU everyone for your help and prayers! My appointment is tomorrow morning at 8:00. I'm praying everything will be fine.

I will be back tomorrow to update you all. Thanks again.

**UPDATE*** (I don't know how to add update in my title???)

I had the follow up mammogram and ultrasound this morning.

The left breast where they saw 2 round dense areas are just fine! They are very small fluid filled cysts.

The right side where the calcifications were they want to do a biopsy. I go back Dec. 31st for the 2 hour procedure and should get results the week after that.

Another 2 weeks of wondering and worrying I guess :(

Oh, I'm so sorry you have to wait again! I expect they are just being very thorough, and everything will turn out fine, but I know it's hard not to worry.

If it helps, I've been called back for higher resolution tests before, and my neighbor for a biopsy, and both turned out OK.

OP glad you got at least part of an answer and that it was good news!

I am 27 and just came from my doctor this morning - they called the breast cancer center at the hospital and are sending me for a diagnostic mamo, ultrasound, and biopsy tomorrow at 0800. I have a irregular shape spot that showed up on my right breast suddenly....needless to say I'm freaking out.

I will continue sending positive thoughts your way - good luck!

This has happened to me twice over the years. Both times it was nothing. Calcification and one time they did a needle biopsy of an area. It is scary waiting for results because you will always think of the worst outcome.

I know it's impossible not to worry but I went through the same thing in April. I was not worried about the 2nd mammo since I know dense tissue runs in the family. However, the biopsy really freaked me out. I had a cluster of at least 30 microcalcs & termed moderately suspicious. They did the biopsy & it came back just fine. I had my 6 mo follow up in Oct & all is still well. A few are still there but only because the biopsy didn't take them all.

Hope you get quick, happy results because I know it's so stressful to wait for those results! :grouphug:

I have question for you ladies. I have a mamorgram scheduled for Christmas Eve (their schedule was wide open; can't imagine why :goodvibes) I have not had one since I was forty (five years ago). I decided to schedule it because I recieved a reminder card in the mail. I am curious about all the responses here about fluid filled sacks and calcification. Did you all feel these things during a self examination or did you feel nothing and these were simply preventative visits??

Prayers for you Snowflakey!!

In my case, I felt nothing. I get a mammo every year, and this year was the first time they found a fluid filled cyst. I had gone to my GYN about a month before my mammo, and he didn't mention anything during his exam either.

Thanks for the prayers!

No I couldn't feel anything. In fact, the 2 round dense fluid filled sacks were only 1/4 inch big! The calcification they told me are small like grains of sand!!WOW that is small!

Thank you for the responses ladies. I am glad you started this thread Snowflakey; it is helping me to understand what different results can mean. I'm gald to go in now a little more prepared!

I'm sorry that you have to worry for 2 more weeks! Did they explain exactly what is involved in the biopsy? I'm curious just in case I have to have this. I go back Jan 2 for my 2nd mammogram and possible ultrasound. Nervous that I will have to have a biopsy too. On the other hand my mom had to have one years ago and hers turned out fine. Hope yours does too. Try not to worry too much, I know it's hard not to worry though! :goodvibes

My biopsy is going to be a 2 hour appointment. They said most of the time is getting me adjusted to be in the right position. Then they will numb the area and insert a needle. Mine is a core biopsy which means they are taking tissue samples not cell samples. They said the time to remove the tissue is only about 2 minutes. Then they will give me an ice pack to put in my bra and I will have to continue to ice it that evening. I will also bruise. They said it takes between 3-5 business days to get the results.

I can update you all after it is done on Dec. 31st.

Thanks again for all your prayers!

Oh boy....had my annual mammogram last Wednesday and I got a call yesterday afternoon saying they've detected something "new" in both breasts. :( I have to go back Thursday for another mammogram and a ultrasound at our breast care center at the hospital.

How can you not worry? :confused3

The woman that called me was wonderful and did say 10 percent get called back and 85 - 90% of them turn out to be fine. I'm praying I am one of them.

The right side they see some calcification but on the left they see 2 dense round areas. Oh my.

I've been doing pretty good just reassuring myself that it isn't worth worrying about before I know more.

I'm 45 and this is my 5th mammogram.

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My mom had two spots found at her last mammogram and had to have a biopsy. The funny part is when they went to another scan, one of the spots disappeared. Hers wasn't anything. I was in a spot where doing the monthly self checks would not had found it. Good luck hope its nothing.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like what my mom had done. I'm hoping that I won't need a biopsy. :scared: Hope everything goes well for you! :goodvibes

Wow-this must be the week for it! Had my annual mammogram yesterday, they kept me for extra pictures, did an ultrasound and I saw the surgeon today. He said I have a small mass in my right breast that was not there in last years mammogram, it looks benign to him but it has to go. I am having a lumpectomy the second week in January. I am not too worried-just a bit rattled. He said they would put a marker in (with local anesthesia) guided by ultrasound and mammography and then we'll go to the OR for the lumpectomy. Not looking forward to this, but just want it done-KWIM? Will keep all of us in my prayers over the holidays........

I just had a lumpectomy this past Tuesday to remove a cyst. It was under a general, but they also injected a local into my breast, which kept it from hurting too badly that first day. it hurt pretty bad on day two, but it was manageable and it's hurting less all the time. I'll be praying for y'all going through all this with biopsies and lumpectomies.
