well it turns out my 6 year old is now tall enough to ride California Screamin
He has been wanting to ride it since he was three.
I haven't been on it in a long time and I was wondering if anyone can tell me about the restraint system, is it just a over the shoulder harness? anything on the lap? belt connecting the over shoulder harness down?
My son my be tall enough but he is very skinny and it just makes me worried, what if he freaks and tries to struggle out of the restraint etc.

Anyone else have this fear or have a small child that rides California Screamin?

Over the shoulder. It is approved to operate, don't worry.

Because of the design of the harness and the fact that it locks into place, I can't imagine him being able to get out of it.

My son is/was really skinny too, but that wasn't/isn't ever a problem. When the harness comes down, it locks in place REALLY well. :)

Hope he enjoys it! My son waited for YEARS to ride it too! And it wasn't a disappointment to him AT ALL once he finally was able to go! He is now 10 and it's STILL his favorite ride - in all of Disney. :)

I can totally relate - I think it is totally normal as a Mom to worry about these things! If I was in your shoes, I'd ride Screamin' myself first to put to rest any worries I have. (Or decide forget it!) :goodvibes

Before you get in line, you can look down at the cars getting ready to "launch", and see that the restraints are quite solid and sturdy.

Now, sure, I held DS's hand and sort of pushed down on his leg when we rode, but it was more to make me feel better. The restraints are quite good.

(if you ever go to universal orlando and ride Rip Ride Rockit with him, you'll think back to the Screamin' restraints fondly...just about DIED of fright for DS on that ride when I went with him...their restraints work, but I don't know how. I literally bruised my upper arm and DS's wrist by contorting myself, reaching across, and holding on to him on that ride.)

I worried when my skinny 7 year old rode with my DH as well. I was afraid he wouldn't push it down tight on her. It was fine though. Well, except for the fact that the ride completely freaked her out and now she won't even ride BTMR  The harness comes down to waist level I believe, so it holds pretty tight. Just remind him to hold his head back during the ride...my DD didn't and I think that added to her discomfort. I think it's a super fun ride- bummed my DD didn't like it.
