California Screamin' closed during WoC?

Do they really shut down California Screamin' when World of Color starts? I understand them not wanting the lights from the ride taking away from the WoC show, but why can't they just run the ride with the lights (and music) turned off during that time? Screamin' at night, in the dark with no lights, would be an incredible experience! Especially if you could see the lights from WoC while on the coaster. Just... why, Disney? Why? :headache:

It's very convenient for the people who want to see WoC, but not the ones who want to continue riding park's premier coaster. :crazy2:

To have rollercoasters launching across Paradise Pier Lagoon with screaming riders would be a huge distraction to WOC viewers.

Do they shut down Thunder Mountain or Splash Mountain for Fantasmic? If not, those screams don't seem to bother the viewers for that.

If there was a ride on Rivers of America where people screamed during Fantasmic it would be closed.

BTMMR and Splash are not immediately behind Fantasmic. A better comparison at DCA would be GRR which is not closed during WOC.

I see. I haven't been to DLR since early 2008, so my memory is a bit fuzzy. Is the WoC show very loud? (More than/less than Fantasmic?) I would have thought the noise from the show would overpower the launch & rider screams? Otherwise they must be closer together than I thought.

Do they re-open the coaster after the WoC show?

(WoC would be pretty amazing from the top of the Maliboomer)

It would be if Maliboomer still existed. WOC is a similar loudness to Fantasmic. I think they do re-open Screamin on some nights between shows - not sure. The issue is that Screamin is right there behind WOC where it launches. It would be a visual distraction too behind the water fountains. Again, think about Fantasmic with a rollercoaster launching at the Mark Twain dock throughout the show every minute or so.

Would the people watching WoC even be able to see the launch for Screamin' if all its lights were completely shut off?

Anyway, you've made this situation easier for me to swallow. Thanks! pirate:

Oh it would be too loud and so annoying if CS was still going on while everyone was watching WOC!

I love that everything on Paradise Pier is closed down for WOC!

WOC is awesome, just simply awesome!!! :dance3:

Actually, some images from WOC are even projected onto the loop of Screamin' right now, so the coaster moving would definitely be noticeable. If the park is open later than the last show, they will reopen. For example I went last week and the final WOC ended at 9:45, but the park closed at 10, so they reopened Screamin' briefly.

Yes. The visual below will help. See Screamin launch area in the background behind the fountains? When this photo was taken Screamin was still running because WOC had not yet started.

Remember also that the FP are only for the tim up into WOC. I've found they were the first to go on our days back in Jan. They do reopen PP rides after WOC though.

LOL. If you went on Screamin during WoC you would get soaked. Nevermind the noise and distraction, they have FIRE spouting right next to the launch area. I think it is a safety issue before all else.

Visual distraction I can understand - we have seen the coasters take off while empty, and there is 'canned' screaming, and so, realistically, the actual noise of people screaming is likely very minimal... I know I don't scream at all when I ride the coasters. Do you guys?

because screamin is apart of WOC show, soo they can't allow anybody to ride on it, the screaming would distract from the show itself, plus the fountains would soak you and the fire would sinch your eyebrows!

so here is my tip, just ride Screamin before they shut it down for WOC!
