My wife was telling me that California residents can get into Disneyland for $98 on a 3 Day hopper. Has anyone heard about this? If true, can my Aunt from San Jacinto make the purchase and my family of 5 use it?

No, that's not true. It's a 2-day ticket for $99, but it's not a park hopper (one park on each day). The 2-day park hopper is $109.

Lisa is correct. The other thing that should be mentioned is that SoCal discounts are for SoCal residents only. Technically every person using a SoCal discount ticket should be willing and able to show proof that they do, in fact, reside in Southern California. That's about all I can say about that ;)

If that was the case, we would all be trying to make new friends in Southern California!:rotfl2:

I think that is the military discount offered on base, but the person I believe has to be there to show their govt id at the time of claiming the ticket.

Just a point of clarification: It IS one park each day for two days, but it does NOT have to be used at both Parks. You could use it for Disneyland both days if you wanted.

(There was an offer previously that was one park one day and the other park the other day. That is NOT the case with this offer.)

Do they check ID's going through the gate? I can't imagine they'd be checking, but you never know... I guess I'm a Californian at heart (born in Orange County some 40 years ago)!

We'll only be going for 2 days to Disneyland. We also plan on going to the beach one day (Santa Monica or La Jolla) then the rest will be in Yuma, AZ at my wife's parents house.

We have done this before my sister who lives in orange county bought the tickets and we all went. We have never been asked for ID. I thought as long as at least 1 person in your group was a socal resident this was OK but I have heard many stories. I have never heard of anyone ever being asked for ID at the gate only when you buy the tickets. Just my .02 cents!

Will they? Who knows, most likely not. Can they? Absolutely. The bottom line is that Disney's official policy is that those tickets are for SoCal residents only, and on these boards we are not allowed to promote anything that goes against Disney policy.

ETA: Here's the fine print if you were curious:

"• Tickets valid for Southern California residents within ZIP codes 90000-93599 and Northern Baja California residents within ZIP codes 21000-22999. Proof of residency required for purchase and admission."

As one would imagine, paying $40-50 more per ticket times 6 people is a pretty significant savings and I'm certainly not condoning any kind of "illegal" activity or going against Disney policy. Just realize, I'm not wealthy and I will have sunk several thousand dollars into this trip before I've set one foot on Disney property. Procuring six 2 day tickets will add another $900 to by tab.

I assure you everyone here understands saving up for a vacation. DH and I just returned from 4 days at WDW and a 4 day Cruise, but we passed on a few things we wanted to do because we simply didn't have the funds. Did we splurge a little in some areas? Sure.

But you asked about tickets specifically available to So. Cal. residents and asked if they check IDs. They can if they want to as it is a ticket that is exclusively for So. Cal. residents.

If you try to use them and you are not a So. Cal. resident then you are indeed condoning going against Disney policy.

Is it significant savings? Yes. Have you spent $1000s on your vacation? Sounds like it. Is it still against Disney's policies to use these tickets if you aren't a So. Cal. resident? Sorry, yes. Maybe there is somewhere else in your vacation that you can trim $270 (45 x 6) to make the DL tickets affordable.

If you purchase and use tickets that you are know are for So Cal residents only then you are certainly condoning the activity and going against Disney policy. I don't think it's an 'illegal" activity but it certainly is against policy. My kids live with me in Nor Cal, their Father lives in So Cal, since I am the custodial parent he is not able to purchase them discounted tickets. Everyone here knows how pricey a Disney vacation can be, I am a CA resident but since I'm in Nor Cal I do not qualify for discounted admission, I don't go against policy and try to use the discount tickets anyway, we pay for admission like all other non-residents. Since you are from Boise you do not qualify either. It my strong suggestion that you do not try to use So Cal tickets but try to adjust your budget (staying somewhere cheaper perhaps, cut the food budget some?) to purchase the correct tickets for your group.

and to add to that.. when you buy the special tickets they will check your Drivers license to make sure you are a so-cal resident..well at least they used to in the past, maybe things have changed since then

Believe me, I understand what you're saying. But the truth is, it really is only for those who live in those zip codes. We used to live 20 minutes from the parks and got great deals on AP's. Then, we lived in Boise for 5 years and got used to paying the prices everyone outside those special deals has to pay. Moved back to California a year ago, and guess what?...we STILL have to pay the same prices you have to pay, despite the fact that we're actually in the same state as the parks (we're outside the SoCal zip codes...). It's a bummer! But, that's the way it is. I have a sister who still lives 20 minutes from the parks and could ask her to buy our tickets, but we choose to follow the rules and just buy the ones appropriate to our residence. We're a family of 6, so, like you, it adds a lot to our final cost. You could wait to see if DLR is going to offer the 5 for 3 promo this year. That's what we're hoping for....it cuts the cost considerably.
