Any idea’s on California Historical Person?

My son is doing a California Report – we have to come up with 3 historical figures within California…we have Ronnie, Arnold – and who else? Preferably a celebrity….

Anyone? Im stumped.

Also – he needs three places to visit. Well, obviously we have Disneyland, he also chose Alcatraz Island…. What else??? AHHHH!

At least he didn’t pick Iowa, or something, huh?

What about Clint Eastwood as the celeb?

For places, depending on age he could pick a vineyard, or Golden Gate Bridge, Petrified Forest, Coronado Island, Catalina Island...

That's what jumped out for me.

William Randolph Hearst - I don't know if he is a native or not, and for a place to visit - The Hearst Castle - its a twofer

Those that come to my mind first are:

People:
- Joe DiMaggio
- Jack London
- Richard Nixon
- John Steinbeck
- George Lucas
- Robert Frost

Places to Visit:
- Golden Gate Bridge
- China Town (SF)
- Jack London State Park
- Yosemite National Park
- La Brea Tar Pits
- "Gold Country"

a great one is "emporer norton"-he declared himself "emporer of the united states" and was a colorful san francisco figure. there is a lot of information on the net about him as well as a current day movement to rename the golden gate bridge after him. def. a celebrity (international-met and communicated with presidents, heads of state, royalty and popes).

nixon is good because he was born here as well as served as our govenor. the "brown dynasty" is interesting as well- former govenor pat brown and his son former govenor (current mayor of oakland) jerry ("moonbeam" :teeth:) brown.

places to visit-

napa valley wine country
muir woods
all of the various missions

I was also going to say william randolph hearst

What about James Marshall (1st to find gold in California) and then a place could be Sutter's Mill.

How about Father Junipera Serra who founded California's missions.

Another one that pops into my head is John Muir who was born in Scotland but lived most of his life in CA.

Can you tell I used to teach CA history? :rotfl2:

Mission San Juan Capistrano, The Hotel Coronado Del Mar in San Diego, The WinChester House. LaBrea Tar Pits, Graumans Chinese Theatre, The Hollywoodland sign.

Incidentally Arnold isn't a "Californian" by nature, he's a transplant! (grin)

Thank you everyone!

This gives me some ideas to toss at him!
