Does anyone know if you can get the Sushi as an appetizer with the dining plan?? Is it really worth two credits?? Also how is the kids desert "sushi" platter?? We have a 6 yo and go to Japanese steakhouses here at home, so he knows what Sushi is. Is it worth it??

I have to work under the assumption you're on the Deluxe dining plan, where appetizers are included. If you're on the basic dining plan, you would not be able to get any appetizer unless you were paying for it "out of pocket".

Ok, now that I posted that disclaimer...

Sushi can be used as an appetizer on the Deluxe dining plan, with a few exceptions. Yoshie's Deluxe Sushi Platter is one of them, and I think the Snake in the Grass roll is another. I think most of the other sushi selections can be used for appetizers, but you would need to confirm with your server to be sure.

The kids' dessert "sushi" isn't actually fish. It's Rice Crispies treats and gummy candy played up to look like sushi.

And if you're on the Deluxe Dining plan, you get 3 TS credits per day, so I would think doing 2 TS restaurants once a day would be a good use of the credits.

I think Cali Grill is absolutely worth the two credits. We had the most spectacular meal there last year and I knew right away it was a restaurant I would gladly pay OOP for, if need be. We had sushi there as an appetizer and, again, we were on the Deluxe Dining Plan. We had the Malibu roll and a flatbread appetizer and that very easily could have been our whole meal. It was a wonderful experience and the view is priceless.

It is absolutely worth 2 credits!! DH and I ate there in September and it was by far the best meal of the trip. I had a spicy Kazaan roll as my appetizer (we were on deluxe) and it was wonderful. And if you like dark chocolate, the valrhona chocolate creme brulee is amazing.

I think it is worth 2 tbles setting I always save my slips of how much everyhting cost, last year we went way way over what the DDP cost, disney has their cost of food elevated :santa:

Most of the sushi can be used for an app with a few exceptions (on the deluxe plan). It is very good. I think it is worth 2 credits especially on the deluxe plan. We do the deluxe plan and only do 2 TS a day, usually 1 is a signature. The meal with apps, entree, dessert & coffee or soda runs about $145 or so for 2 adults. 1 TS places are sometimes not even half that, so I think its a good use of credits (money wise).
I would pay oop for it too, but we save money being on the dining plan which is why we get the dining plan.

Thanks for the information. The sushi is the main reason we want to go to Cali Grill. I am so excited, I can't wait!!

Really enjoyed California Grill.

Worth it? California Grill is 2 DDP credits, but the dollar value is about twice a 1 credit meal........

I estimated our CG bill in December will be $186 for appetizers, entrees, desserts, non-alcoholic drinks, coffee, and tax (all included on DDP). That's for 2 adults and 1 child, 2 credits each. The average estimated cost of our 1 credit dinners is $106. And the average estimated cost of all our 1 credit meals (mostly lunches and dinners) is $84.

Aside from that, CA Grill had great views at sunset. On deluxe dining plan, so plenty of credits. The spicy kazan roll was delicous, and steak good too. Looking at the menu posted on Disney now....I'd get the same - Kazan roll, and try the Pacific Monchong fish. I like trying different fish but never had Monchong (a deep sea Hawaiian fish I understand...).

I would say it is absolutely worth two credits, for the view alone. I wouldn't get the sushi as an app though, the crab salad was TO DIE FOR.

My daughter had the sushi dessert and it was so freaking cute I almost didn't want to let her eat it. The "rice" is rice krispie treats, the "fish" are sweedish fish, the "roll" was a rice krispie treat wrapped in a fruit roll up with gummi worms stuffed inside. The "soy sauce" was chocolate sauce, the "ginger" was white chocolate tinted pink, and the "wasabi" was a green tinted marshmallow.

I have pics of it in my dining review. Have a great time!
