I was thinking of making a PS there during fireworks. If you are not seated by a window can you still get a view of Wishes? Also can you just order an appetizer as a meal? And is it crazy to bring a 2 and 6yo? Is it a very quiet restaurant with mostly couples? TIA

You can see the fireworks even if not seated at a window. You can also go out on the observation deck to see the fireworks.

You can order an appetizer as a meal.

It is not a quiet restaurant just for couples and there will be lots of kids there. You will not be at all out of place with a 6 and 2 year old.

I would separate the part about small children at the California Grill into two pieces:

1. Will children be at the Grill if you go? Yes.

2. Should you take children to the Grill? In my opinion, no.

The California Grill is a very nice restaurant in a very lovely setting, plus it ain't cheap. My idea of heaven is a nice relaxed and intimate dinner with my wife, fine food, fine wine, fine company, great view, watching the sunset or the fireworks, depending on your timing. Although I love my DD dearly, she doesn't appear anywhere in that description.

I understand being on vacation and wanting to have the kids along, but in this case I think hard pressed parents would greatly enjoy their absence.

If you are going..just to see the fireworks..don't. They are better from main street in the MK.

For you to go and just order appetizer..you will have to time it just right..hope you are seated on time. It is easy for those diners..who start with a drink, have appetizer, entree and dessert..but, just for an appetizer..I wouldn't bother.

We went in April--had a full dinner, with our 4 and 7 yr old dd. Yes there were other children. Yes it is an expensive restaurant and many couples were there with and without children. I brought crayons and paper and so forth...they were fine. Do what is right for your family. Your children won't be the only ones. It's Disney. Even though we weren't by the window, we had a fine view and the piped in music was great. And no crowds on main st. to deal with. I thought the view was even better than on main st. because i didn't have a sore neck from looking straight up into the sky. I would do it again in a minute. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. The reason I am planning on bringing my kids is no other family members are coming on this trip to give us a break from them. I just thought it would be nice to watch Wishes from there and not have to fight the crowds at the park.Oh and my DH will be having a full dinner it's just me who's the appetizer orderer. Now to make a PS!

I don't think you'll regret your decision. It was so much more relaxing watching Wishes from CA grill and not having to worry about losing the little ones in the crowd. Enjoy, have fun and don't forget to bring the crayons!

Do they pipe in the music to Wishes at the CG?

Yes, the pipe in the music.

Reasonably well-behaved kids fit in perfectly. While its not too noisy, its also not really quiet. It has an open kitchen, which means there is always going to be a certain amount of noise.

I don't know if they still do this, but last year my then 4 year old son was picked to "start the fireworks". (They let him turn the dials that lowered the lights and turned on the music, but told him it was the message to Tinkerbell to start the fireworks.)

As long as they aren't going to tear the place up, bring the kids and don't even give it a second thought.
