My son & I plan to have dinner here in August - is there a dress code, or are shorts/t-shirts allowed? What time should we make our PS in order to see the MK fireworks during dinner? And is the "Peeky Toe" Crab California Roll always on the menu?

Thank you!

I've seen both ends of the dress spectrum when I've been there, but honestly I'd say that your son might want to wear a pair of Dockers type pants or belted shorts, and a shirt with a collar.

Barring that, and you don't want to get dressed in 'business casual', freshen up before going- don't go straight from a full day in the parks.

I've found that they keep the restaurant a bit on the cool side, for me- that's why long pants would be a good thing.

As far as the food goes, depending on when you plan on going- if you check the menu and your desired item isn't on it; there's a possibility that you can special order it (maybe).

Now for fireworks. If you want a window table to view the fireworks from, make a PS for 1 hour before the fireworks are scheduled to go, then get to the Grill about 20 - 30 minutes before that. Tell the host/hostess at the podium what you want and that you're willing to wait for it.

Good Luck, and have a great time!

Thank you, Flower, for your responses - you certainly covered everything!

As Flower points out, you'll see all sorts of dress at CG. The "official" dress code is no tank tops or bathing suits--they call it "resort casual". or "smart casual". In any case, we always wear nice walking shorts and our brand-new Disney T- Shirts when dining at CG. Always plenty of others dressed in similar fashion--.

And we're always well scrubbed and washed before we go. But sometimes your schedule at Disney just won't allow for that and if not, I wouldn't worry a whole lot about it.

Good luck coordinating your PS w/ the fireworks. I just read the park hours have been shortened during our stay & our 7 PM PS for CG is now exactly for the time of the start of the fireworks, which was previously listed for 8PM. What are the chances of getting seated then? This is the second March in a row that this has happened. Last year they extended hrs. at the last minute & our PS was too early. We watched the fireworks from the balcony, which was good, but very windy. I guess we will do the same this yr. & have dinner later.

Thanks for the tips on the fireworks! Is the balcony a large area or does it get crowded easily? I'm hoping to get a window seat but the patio sounds like it would be a nice option too! :p

Peeky Toe California Roll was on the menu last night, I got it "to go" for my teen who opted to go to Disney Quest rather than CG. As far as what people were wearing, a couple very underdressed in wifebeaters and shorts, and some very dressed in dressy dresses and suits. But for the most part resort casual in chino's, golf shirts, casual dresses, etc. That's the way we dress when we dine there.

We got there about half an hour before the fireworks and had a seat at the bar, I had the "Conundrum", a mixture of five whites with an interesting tropical bouquet, peach undertones, and a classic sweet pear finish. Not what I normally drink, but an interesting change. The beer menu has been drastically cut back, there were less than ten offered, and most were pretty "run of the mill".

Anne (Ducklite) - you said you got the Peeky Toe California Roll "to go" for your teenager - was this something you did special, perhaps after you finished dining there, or can I get this same item "to go" for my son as well? (he's not too keen on dressing up for dinner!) Where would orders "to go" be placed - can you just go up to the CG & place an order? And how does the "Peeky Toe" differ from a regular California Roll? (curious to try one!) Sorry for all the questions!

I would imagine they'll prepare just about anything "to go". I just ordered it when I ordered dessert, and asked for it "to go"--the server didn't seem at all suprised, my guess is that it's a farily common thing. (I ordered it with dessert to minimize the amount of time that it would be sitting out unrefridgerated. I d'ont eat sushi, and have no idea how it's different, BUT, the crab was REAL crab, and it all looked SO fresh. He LOVED it...said it was the best sushi he's ever had :) Just an FYI, it's not enough to make a meal, especially for a teenager, it was a perfect "bedtime snack" for my son when he got back from DQ.

Thanks, Anne, for the response - We will probably eat elsewhere, but get 2 or 3 "Peeky Toes" to go (as an evening snack)

Sounds like you're going the same night as me! As soon as I saw the shortened hours, I called Dining to change my PS from 7:00 to something earlier. What are the chances of being seated window at the time of the fireworks?? Luckily, they had a 6:30 open and I was told if we don't have a window seat by 7, just to go to the observation deck with a drink. Sounds good to me!

The observation deck has plenty of room, since now they don't let you go the deck unless you are dining at CG. We were there in Dec and nobody ask if we we dining at the grill.

If you are interested in a quick "snack" the bar will serve any item on the menu. My wife has sushi at the bar while we waited for our table. Enjoy your meal.
