California Grill and Kids

The dress code for the California grill is:

Men: Dress slacks, jeans, trousers, or dress shorts, short or long-sleeved
shirt with a collar required. Jackets are optional.

Ladies: Jeans, skirts, or dress shorts with blouse or sweater, or a dress
required.

Not permitted in dining room: tank tops, swimming suits or swim suit cover
ups, t-shirts, hats for gentleman, cut offs, or torn clothing of any kind.

You can see it on the official Disney web site here.

This is excellent, Anne. Thank you very much. Thanks to everyone for the help!

I have to comment on the dress code. I wish it was enforced. When we were there in December, I was told about the dress code and planned accordingly. We spent that day at Epcot so we put a change of clothes in the rental car. Left Epcot in plenty of time to get to the Contemporary and change. Only to find everyone else coming in dressed like we had been, park attire. I don't remember seeing any tank tops (this was December though, who knows what you would see in the summer) but most everyone there had on shorts and t-shirts.

It made me wish we had stayed and enjoyed Epcot longer and not taken the time to change. Actually, that is not really true. I think people should dress nice for such restaurants, it really just made me wish they enforced the dress code.

Actually more and more many are seeing it enforced. I've twice seen people turned away from the CG and once from Citrico's for being inappropriately dressed.

I did the same thing but didnt have the rental car...had to lug my change of clothes from park to park and rent lockers to store it in till I got to CG and changed in the bathrooms there!

That may be the suggested dress codes but when we were there last month we saw plenty of people in shorts and tee shirts, one woman had on an outfit that I would only wear to bed! My guess is they're trying to make it more upscale and would prefer that but won't actually turn down someone unless they were in the "Not permitted in dining room" category of clothes.

Does any one else find it odd that while Disney indicates that a shirt with a collar is required that their brief slideshow features a man wearing a shirt without a collar? :confused3

We have seen many children at CG over the years, so I'm sure your kids would enjoy it. We always eat there the first night on our trips. We will be back again on Oct. 12 :)

Interesting--and seemingly inconsistant with the stated "collar REQUIRED" dress code.

I do believe that his appearance is completely appropriate though. Just an observation.

Gregg, we took our 3, 9 and 11 in Dec. to the GC. It was the best meal of the trip. The waitress brought our 3 year old goldfish to tide him over until his grilled chicken came out. My DS11 loved his sushi sampler. My filet was the best that I've ever eaten.

My DH wore a long sleeved botton down shirt with trousers. My DSs wore golf shirts and khaki shorts. My DD9 enjoyed dressing up for dinner. She wore a shirt and skirt. It wasn't necessary but we enjoy showering and changing into something nice for dinner.

Thanks Lori and everyone else -- I think we'll try it (if I can get ADRs at this late date).

I was able to get ADRs without any problem! First week in August, 9:30PM (11PM MK fireworks)! WOOOHOOOO

Any suggestions on can't miss entrees, drinks, appetizers??

Good for you! :thumbsup2

We love the flatbreads as an entree or appetizer.

If you enjoy beets, in season there is usually a wonderful beet salad. Not your Grandmother's pickled beets but fresh, tangy and oh so good. :sunny:

The steak is always great and the pork with polenta is another entree that gets raves.

My sushi lovers enjoy that at CG too.

Bon apetit!

Awesome, I'm so excited for you...it's my fave disney restaurant! I'll be there in Oct. I recommend the flatbread (it's like 4 cheese or something) and there's a white wine I love can only find here called Conundrum. And if you're a sushi fan, they have a wonderful selection. I really enjoyed the Tuna Trio! Enjoy your dinner!

Actually several other WDW restaurants, including 50's Prime Time (I think it was there, I do remember find it someplace very unexpected within the past few months) carry Conundrum.

Conundrum is sold in most better wine stores. It is not a WDW exclusive. In fact I believe Iron Horse Fairy Tale Cuvee and an occasional special event wine created for either the Marathon or F&W are the only wines exclusive to WDW.
