Thank you for the links. I was able to make a small donation to both Pasadena Humane and LA County Animals, but unfortunately not to Dart since they don't have PayPal option.

Thanks for sharing these! There is another dog rescue which specializes in saving senior dogs, called Frosted Faces. They are more specialized than the Los Angeles ones you mentioned, but helping any dog in Southern California will lighten the load on the rescues, Frosted Faces went to LA and picked up as many dogs as they could. They place older dogs (often in need of medical care, or who will need it shortly) and offer free vet services with the placement (I'm assuming there are Some limits) - but an incredible service. I've noticed a lot of the dogs end up with senior citizens who cherish them. https://frostedfacesfoundation.org/

I know a LOT of people who helped on Maui during the animal care crisis there (which was horrific, since for health reasons, services personnel were not allowed back into the area to retrieve animals left behind for SIX MONTHS). Hoping we can do better with the current situation.

I'm glad to see the attention to this disaster and all the donations. It's unfortunate Maui and North Carolina didn't get the same attention. There are no movie stars in Appalachia.....but there are still people living in tents in the cold.

As we all have seen, the News services are actually an Entertainment media (paid for with advertising) ... they will 100% move on as soon as the public tires of seeing a certain event. The News generates public awareness, which generates Contributions. If you want to see issues back in the public eye, help to find a "personal story" that the News will run with.

People are so inundated with Social Media, it's hard to get their attention with anything less than burning down Los Angeles. Creepy, but true.

I have a super soft spot for animals. I have a cat and I'm constantly worried about his safety. In a tornado so long as I'm home I know I can get him in his carrier and into the basement, a fire however is completely different. I've been keeping an eye out for any local to me news if any animals have been sent here (it happens depending on the crisis at hand from somewhere else in the U.S.)

Thank you for sharing another place, it sounds like a great one doing a great service senior pets need and deserve places to go and you're right it can help spread out the resources.

You might want to find at least one other cat lover on your street who will trade keys and pinky-swear neither of you will leave the other's cat behind. I've seen a rooster and a cat transported in pillow cases in an emergency - they were Really Really angry mind you, but safe lol.

After the Marshall Fire here, one of the fire victims developed an app call Pet Help & Rescue. It allows neighbors to sign up to help keep pets safe during emergencies. Those in your neighborhood who sign up agree to help, when possible, in rescuing pets during a fire or other disaster.

Those who sign up put in the pet information, such as what kind of pet, how many pets, and where they might be during the emergency. You then text a code to your garage or house so that the person can enter, grab your pets, and leave safely.

I do not know if this app is available everywhere or just in the Marshall Fire area. When the person who developed the app spoke, he did say that they hope to roll it out nationwide by the end of 2024. We have not downloaded or tried that app but did see how it worked at the time of the presentation in September of 2024.

Makes little sense considering Ukraine is seriously short staffed, but sending help is often considered a required PR move if countries want the USA to send help in return. At least Canada and Mexico makes more sense. Don't get me wrong, help is appreciated and the responders at the fires are exhausted so any trained help is good. But Ukraine is a stretch.

Sadly, there are countries (and even politicians in the US, which tells you the true caliber of those individuals) that are barely hiding their glee at the devastation to California.

You do realize this is the normal progression for any natural disaster, right? It gets a ton of attention when things are at its worst, but life keeps rolling on. As a result, the news outside of the impacted region moves on to the next big disaster. It doesn't mean that the last disaster was forgotten, but it's no longer the main focus beyond that region. Anyone that resides in an area more prone to weather disasters is keenly aware of this fact. Depending on the timing, some natural disasters may get more attention that others, but that's often because there's a greater lag between catastrophes. Who knows what Mother Nature has in store, but if the south sees another epic winter storm like 2021 where nearly 250 people died as a result of cold and grid failures, that could push CA out of the spotlight. If not, spring storm season is right around the corner and a massive tornado outbreak could also do the trick.
