On thursday we had a wonderful dinner at Cali Grill. Billy was our server and we couldn't have asked for better service. He helped us choose wines to accompany our meals and since he is a sommelier he really was very informative.
Great news, the Bonzai roll is back on the sushi menu, and I hope it stays there for a good while! DH ordered the bonzai roll for an app, DD ordered the beef flatbread. I didn't order an app as I just had lap band surgery in January and knew there was no way I could get that much food in. As it was I was ordering wine with dinner and eating and drinking at the same time is a no no. I did taste half a piece of DH's sushi and a bite of the flatbread both were wonderful.
DH had the snapper with the fig risotto, DD had the beef filet and I ordered my tried and true favorite the pork with polenta. DH enjoyed his meal as well as most of mine since I could only finish 2 pieces of my pork and about half of the polenta. DH also had 2/3 of my wine to complement the pork dish! DH and DD shared the chocolate creme brulee, and I did take a tiny taste which was very chocolatey and smooth as silk. I cannot say enough about the service and Billy's knowledge, food quality and of course the atmosphere. We did view the electric light pagent from the dining room with dessert, however, we did not stay for the fireworks, as in the past we found that the viewing is really not as good as being in the park. After dinner we walked to the MK and viewed the fireworks and stayed for the 11 pm electric light parade--I just love that!

Any questions just ask, as I leave here tomorrow, I may not get to it until Monday after work!

Great review. Glad you had great service and everyone enjoyed their meals.

We have had the opportunity to go to Cali Grill yet, but maybe on a future trip.

I'm interested in knowing what the Bonzai roll is too! We love CG sushi and are always interested in trying new rolls.

I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread. Now, I won't be satified until I have that polenta!

Yet another "What's a Bonzai Roll?" question!

I don't see it on the allears menu (though I didn't expect to), nor on the menu thru the main Disney website. I'm seriously intrigued!

I am so excited I am eating at cali grill on the first day of my anniversary trip in september!!!

Thanks for the review! We're thinking of going for the 1st time on our upcoming trip.

Does CG seem stuffy? We were uncomfortable at the Grand Floridian Cafe a few years ago. Our idea of a good meal is Longhorn, Texas Roadhouse, Rafferty's, etc. We're a very casual family & don't want to feel out of place.

Well...what do you mean by casual? I mean, my husband and I go to casual restaurants all the time but still know how to act at a nicer restaurant. I wouldn't call CG "stuffy" but it's definitely a nice atmosphere.

Last time we were there, someone's two year old was rolling on the floor into other people's chairs and under other people's tables. Things like that take usually the "stuffy" out of any restaurant!

We know how to behave in public. :) We're definitely not four forks & three glasses at each place setting kind of people though. I don't want to feel like Julia Roberts in the fancy restaurant in Pretty Woman, if you know what I mean. ;)

That would get my DD in big trouble at any age & in any restaurant!!

It's not that bad. I think you'll be just fine @ CG. Maybe not at Victoria & Albert's, though...;)

Mine, too. But I really didn't mind that someone else's child was doing it. :) My point was that kids rolling on the floor or running around tables will make just about any place feel casual.

Really, there's a moderate level of noise and you'll enjoy the food and atmosphere so much that you won't even think to feel uncomfortable. I'm sure you guys would be fine at CG. You should go. :)

We take our kids to CG every Disney Trip and they love it! My oldest son wanted to celebrate his 13th b-day there and will also be celebrating his 16th there this Jan. We do go early-5:30 ressie and they have a blast. :yay:

Thank you so much for posting a postive review! I am VERY excited for our CG reservations next month!!! :cool1:

Going in a few days!!!! 8/26 :)... We are going at 930pm.... hope we get to see the fireworks.
