Cali Grill + Kona Cafe - Dining Plan Restrictions?

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone on the dining plan had eaten at either Cali Grill or Kona Cafe and knew of any restrictions when ordering? I know you're allowed an appetizer, entree and dessert, but for example, are you restricted to ordering only certain appetizers like flatbreads off the Cali Grill menu?

Just wanting to know if there are any omissions/restrictions.

Thanks!

We didn't eat at the California Grill, but we did eat at Kona and had no restrictions whatsoever there. We had our choice of any items on the menu.

The kids, however, had to choose from the kids' menu which now has separate options for kids' appetizers (either soup or fruit), and dessert (Jello with Mickey sprinkles or a brownie sundae), as well as the standard kid fare for entrees. I believe in the past, kids at Kona could get any dessert on the DPP, but that's no longer an option. We just got back from Orlando last night and ate at Kona this week by the way.

We ate at Kona in May and while my DS9 could order any dessert he was not allowed any appetizers. It was fine at the time because there was plenty to give him from ours.

We've eaten at Kona's many times and never encountered any restrictions. We usually get the pot stickers and crab cakes as appetizers and pretty much anything else on the menu. This is one of our favorite places and we visit several times eat trip.

We ate at Cali Grill and I was pleasantly surprised when the CM told us that we could order ANYTHING on the menu w/ the DDP! :)

The only thing you can't order at CG is Yoshi's deluxe sushi platter since it is considered to be for two people.

We could order anything from the menu at CG in January. I do not know if there have been any changes since then.

Thanks, Nancy. We were there in May and told no Yoshi. This also has been posted many times on the boards since the dining plan began. Logic is similar to dessert sampler exclusions - they are considered for more than one person.

I'll ask again when we are back there end of November.

Thank you. I would never have a problem if there were items that were excluded because they were meant for two. My SIL ordered a sushi samper that was $35, and that was what he had paid for the plan for the day. Now CG was 2 TS, but I can understand that there may be restrictions in cases like this. I like to know what to expect, though.

Can you still get shrimp or scallops added with the DDP? The CM pushed it last year. Also pushed smoothies. Anyone know if that is still the case?

So kids can't have the Kiddie Kone at Kona Cafe? My kids are going to be so disappointed, they have seen the pictures on the Dis and were looking forward to that!! OH well, I will just pay out of pocket.

When we went in May the addons were not offerred but the smoothies were.

Are you saying at Kona Cafe the kids could not order any dessert from the "kids" menu? I can understand not being able to order an adult dessert, but a kids? That doesn't seem right.

Kona very recently made this change as it was not the case in May. Children only have a choice of Jello or a brownie.

Yes, our waiter just about 10 days ago told us only the brownie sundae or Jello for kids' dessert on the DDP. My DS loved the brownie sundae, though, and the other two loved the Jello, so they weren't disappointed at all, and there's no way they could have eaten that "Kiddie Kone" because it's huge!
