Disney's dress code states you can wear just about anything other than tank tops on men, ripped/torn clothing, bathing suits, any article with offensive graphics or statements, and hats on men.

I would say the majority of diners change out of park attire and into dress shorts, khakis, capris but if you want to go in jeans and t-shirt (with nothing offensive), you certainly can.

When we ate there last week we saw a whole range of dressing. Some wore very smart, shirt, jacket, tie etc other more casual.

My DH wore long trousers and a casual shirt and I wore a skirt and t-shirt.

There were people there in jeans & smart casual shirts

Last summer I wore a cotton sundress and my boyfriend wore a pair of khaki shorts and a polo. We went right from dinner to EMH at MK!

It's WDW, not the real world.

I prefer dressing up when I go out to eat, but you're on vacation in WDW so dont worry about it too much.

I dont want to be too underdressed either, but I will be wearing khaki shorts and polo's to most of my dinners at signature places or other off of the DDP.

When we went we didn't see shorts- and it was July. Most men wore khaki pants and women were in skirts and tops- or dresses.
There were a handful not that dressed-

I bought these skirts and wore them throughout the trip and they packed fantastically and they were so comfortable I even wore them into the parks some days.
I got a black and a khaki one(which it looks like is gone) but it was a great go to when I wanted to do the parks after eating.

Odds are I will wear shorts a few nights, depending on timing with my niece. The weather will be warm and I doubt I feel like wearing jeans...even if its only on my way to the restaurant!

Normally, I dislike seeing people dressed down at finer establishments, but this is WDW not NYC or even your state capital.

for our signature places we bought my DH a collared button down shirt from the giftshop at the Polynesian. We didnt want to feel under dressed so it was worth the cost, then he wore it with a pair of khaki shorts. I wore similar shorts, bermuda ones, and wore a nice polo with it. We felt we were dressed appropriately and i did say that i was glad we bought my DH that shirt, although expensive, because the majority of people were dressed nice.

When we ate there in Sept, there were quite a few families that had come straight from the parks & were dressed in typical park dress. On our first couple of Signature meals we all "dressed" up but once we realised that we didn't have to,typically myself & DS worn polos & shorts or jeans.
SD:thumbsup2

I ate there for the first time. We did go to the room from the parks, shower, put on nicer clothes - nicer shorts and collared shirts for DS and myself. DD put on a dress, but she is only 8, and wears dresses a lot. DW put on nicer clothes, too. You could wear a suit and tie, but by no means do you have to wear a suit and tie.

I fell in love with the place. The food, service and view are wonderful.

Cannot wait to go back.

Have fun.

I haven't seen anyone in a suit and tie at California Grill since we've been going--and that has been since it very first opened. Once saw a few fellows in sportcoats, but these were locals having an after work gathering.
If you REALLY wanted to wear a suit (or even a spotcoat) you could. But you'll likely be the only person dressed that way. Same with ladies and dresses--you could, but most don't.

Honestly, we eat at several signatures with this dress code every trip and most people are very casual. Still within the dress code...but the dress code is pretty inclusive. Lots of people in shorts, sneakers, flip flops, tee shirts. It's not like nicer restaurants anywhere else. In fact, we ate at Maggianos last Sunday and I thought that in general, the guests were dressed at LEAST as nice as guests at Calif Grill and a lot were even dressed up more! Maggianos has no formal dress code policy. I know I had on shoes with a heel that I would never pack for a WDW trip. :goodvibes

Is it frowned upon if you go right from a park? We've eaten at the Brown Derby in park attire. :confused3

If "comfortable" to you means "fitting in" I'd wear "resort wear" as opposed to "park wear" or "dressed up." There really isn't too much difference and its hard to really pin down. Its one of those "you know it when you see it" sorts of things.

If you are looking for "what can I get away with" - don't wear your swimsuit.

Some people would say so - and I wouldn't be comfortable going straight from a park. Brown Derby is in the park, so most people are dressed for the park. The resort signature restuarants tend to have a lot more people swinging by their hotel room for a quick shower.

To some extent it depends on the time of year you go and how you dress for the parks. If you dress nice for the parks to start with, go at a cooler time of year - you won't raise eyebrows. If park wear for you means dressing like Ellie May Clampett - but not TV clean, and its 102 degrees and humid - please go take a shower and change.

Most will not be coming straight from the park...depending on the time of year.

If you have been in the park most of the day and are hot/sweaty, it's just common sense to take a shower and change before dinner.

I totally get not sweaty looking tired and crabby going to Cali Grill. We usually "dress" a little more to go to dinner anyway...I might have a nice pair of shorts on with a dressy tank - is that ok?

Yeah, I think it is. It's still WDW!

I just think they would like people to look a but more presentable for the atmosphere of the place.

We're going to an elegant Mother's Day Brunch off-site, so I will dress for that! But, it's off-site!

At WDW, I will probably dress up at some of the places, but for the most part its casual.

That's what I usually wear - or a skort or skirt.
