Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

Some posters wouls like pictures of desserts taken next to a ruler. Could someone bring a food scale and weigh the slices.

Real butter, real vanilla and quality chocolate are substantially more expensive then the artificial ingredients frequently used.

Posters are missing, or ignoring, the big issue. Everything doesn't have to appeal to every guest. CBS maybe too expensive or "girly" for many guests. So what? Some posters seem to want it to fail, just because its not for them.

I understand, the few, ESPN customers disappointed by the change.
Apparently the Cake Bake Shop is all that is evil in WDW lol. God forbid there is a family group out there that enjoys cake and fancy cocktails with a lovely salad!

For goodness sakes people just don't go. I don't think in my 25 years of watching DIS board threads I have ever seen this level of hate directed at a place. The funny thing for me is that makes me want to go all the more! lol

For the record if ESPN was such a bastion of popularity and foot traffic it would still be there. Same with River whatever it was. If the Cake Bake Shop doesn't make money then it too can be an empty building on the Boardwalk...which is apparently what most people really want.

Meanwhile....

Any ideas on when they will officially open? Will they soft open and take reservations later?

I didn’t notice any hate in this thread, let alone a significantly high level of hate. Were there deleted comments or am I missing something? Would you mind quoting a few tidbits of hate? It seems pretty split on half the people saying “not my vibe” or “too expensive for what it is” and half saying they can’t wait to go. I thought we were having a pretty civil debate about the merits of an 8 dollar gallon cup of moo juice.

Just shared on the BW Thread:

The Cake Bake Shop Hosts Private Event as Official Opening Looms

While the eatery has not officially opened, The Cake Bake Shop was operating today for a private event today!

According to the employees we talked to, today’s event was for friends, family, and “neighbors” from along the boardwalk. A sign outside of the restaurant informed pedestrians what was happening.

Hopefully, today’s private event is just the latest hint that The Cake Bake Shop will soon open its doors to all guests!

While neither Disney nor The Cake Bake Shop has announced an opening date for the BoardWalk locale, the bakery’s menu includes seasonal fall treats, including Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Roll Cake and Pumpkin Chocolate Cake. The choice of seasonal treats would seem to indicate that the shop will open soon.

Why? What is wrong with civil discussion? I can hate the place and you can like it, right? Doesn't mean that I can't talk about it.

I don't think the comment is directed at you. We know you dislike the place, but you never once suggested that the people who go to CBS should have "their head examined" or something unkind like that. Another poster actually wrote that on another related thread.

I have provided several warnings about keeping the discussions on this thread civil. I will now begin to delete posts from this point if needed.

In the end here's what it comes down to:

CBS is opening soon
Many people will like it and partake of their foods and environment
Many people will find it over the top and expensive

It is what it is.

As for ESPN or Big River. It's not that they were awesome, but ESPN filled a nice niche for those of us that enjoy sports. Especially when the rest of our Disney party decides to hit up the pool or take naps or goes to bed early. I am a HUGE sports fan and one thing I think WDW doesn't have is a good sports based pub/bar whatever you want to call it. Essentially the only options are Rix at Coronado and perhaps City Works in Disney Springs unless I'm missing something.

I think if you put something in Big River's old location that would be fantastic. But perhaps there just isn't a market for it like I think there would be.

Obviously the two aren't related (sports bar and CBS) , I'd love for both to be there.

Part of the your vacation group can go to CBS and the other to the new sports bar/pub in the old Big River location :)

Pretty much agree. While the prices are ridiculous if it is open during the Wine and Dine race weekend we are staying at BWV. I’d take my wife in for lunch because she’s worth a nice meal (it’s nice to make her feel special) and we’d see what it’s about. Probably a “one and done”.

I just saw a FB post where the poster received a beautiful golden ticket invitation to stop by for a complimentary bakery item and beverage. They posted a photo of a boxed slice of the raspberry champagne cake and an iced coffee. I won't post it here because it's not my pictures but if you're a member of a DVC FB group, you might see it.

No doubt but like the star cruiser at first it was slammed then the novelity wore off. Your looking at a niche clientele just like the Star Cruiser, will it have the same fate :confused3 ?
It screams Grand Floridan not Boardwalk to me. I don't think many people are saying I really want to have an upscale dining experience let me go to the bakery.

I went with my sister to the CBS in Carmel, IN a few Christmases ago. It was very expensive, even in Indiana, but the atmosphere was right out of a Christmas story book! The food was not particularly fantastic, and I couldn't even tell you what kind of cake I ordered, but the setting was perfection. It was an evening with my sister that I'll treasure forever.

Only thing I’d add about BW location is it is more accessible to more people than some people realize or acknowledge

Think Swan, Dolphin, Beach Club, Yatch Club, and Boardwalk hotels.

Then you have ease of access by the Skyliner resorts being AoA, Pop, Caribbean, and Riviera.

And ease of park guests accessing with Epcot through the International Gateway or HS via Skyliner or walking.

This place will be jam packed when it opens. We'll see where it is in a year. I was kind of hoping this would have some kind of Grand floridian Tea Room & Champaign type option. maybe that just isn't on the menu yet. My wife predicted $150 a person for such an experience and based on the menu i've seen i'm guessing that's probably accurate if they have it.

Rodgers is not an idiot, i'm sure they know what their target audience is and even if the menu scares off 99% of people, as long as the 1% has enough takers to fill the place every day, that's all that matters to making a profit. Think about how many people are at Disney on a daily basis, vs how many patrons they need to make a profit. it's a pretty tiny number of people they actually have to cater to. The question will be, do they get repeat business?

We've been looking forward to this but looking like it will be a pass for us. I just don't see the price as being commiserate with the experience being offered. You can't really compare this to something like a character meal where you are paying for the characters and memories you are building with your family.

And even if it is the best egg sandwich i've ever had in my life... well there is still a cap on what you'd expect to pay. I'd rather go across the lake to Yachtsman and spend $60 on a filet and know I'm not going to be ask to drop an extra $10 if i want a side with it.

Plus since DW has a dairy allergy i'd like to see what their allergen menu. not much point going there if the only dairy free options are things she doesn't like.

As for the "it's a two hour experience!" well that is a drawback, not a selling point for me. With so much to do at Disney and only so many hours in a day, i don't see how i'm going to devote two hours to eating a sandwich and a slice of cake. that feels like about 20-30 minutes of eating, 15-20 minutes of ordering and waiting for food to arrive, and 70 minutes of doing... what exactly?
any update if the GF is bringing back the tea service? I did that as a little girl and would die to take my daughter!

I agree. I hear a lot of people mention that one reason it may fail is because it’s so out of the way. I think it’s a prime location. There is already a glut of restaurants at DS. I don’t think the CakeBake vibe fits DS.
