Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

We will have to give it a walk through and see. Right now the only actual pastry place we like is Amorette's. Whatever we get is usually good. I refuse to wait for a cookie at gideon's. I'll gladly try it when there is no line. Just me I know people go nuts over them but people also go nuts over sprinkles cupcakes and duck donuts and all those other places and none of them do anything for me and my family. I can get flavored icing anywhere. Maybe its cause I come from an italian household where our cookie and pastry spreads at holiday's are 100 feet long and all recipes from multi generations back. but again i go into everything with an open mind for what it is.

I really don't think anyone thinks it's *just a bake shop*, as a lot of the locals have commented that they have luncheon type savory things, cocktails, champagne, and of course, sweet treats. I'm pretty sure that the gut of ESPN revealed things very common in Florida (sinking/uneven build pad, mold, major structural deterioration) and the Bake Shop didn't budget for this and/or can't come to terms with Disney on who pays for what.

The way Disney completes construction projects, I’m sure no one is surprised. We have a trip booked for early September 2024. I’m not even confident it will be open by then.

Ugh, I was really hoping that it would be open for one of our upcoming trips but not surprised that it's delayed.

All of us at The Cake Bake Shop are eager to unveil the beautiful details and charm that are coming to Disney’s BoardWalk! As the excitement is building and our hearts are brimming with anticipation, we expect to open our doors early next year to welcome you to an unforgettable dining experience. Stay connected with us for more details leading up to our opening.

Gwendolyn Rogers

Haven't seen any recent construction images, but they are shooting for some time early next year.

I don’t think it’s on hold. I just think Disney just slows down or speeds up projects at will. Right now, this project is not a priority. So they’re working on it, just not with any urgency. Probably just a skeleton crew for now. Same thing seems to be going on at the Summer House on the Lake at Disney Springs.
When it’s a third party renovation, does Disney control the pursestrings and timeline or does the third party? Is it Cake Bake Shop that is dragging their feet in this case or Disney? I suppose it’s possible there are still construction supply issues coming into play either way, but I would think if it were Disney dragging their feet, there could be issues with their agreement with CBS at some point.

While more frequent visitors, or people who are familiar with the flagship location, may know it's not just a bake shop, I am not sure that will be obvious to most non-locals.

If the proprietors want visitors from all over the world (most of whom will never have heard of this brand) to know it's a full-service restaurant with a varied menu, calling it something so seemingly-descriptive-but-inaccurately-limited as the "Cake Bake Shop" is going to eliminate many casual visitors right off the bat: they'll see the name, and keep on strolling (or scrolling) right by. While I understand the reason for naming it after the original location, something as simple as a tagline: "The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers: Delectable Cakes, Sips, Sandwiches, and More" would go a long way toward establishing what, exactly, it is, even if that name is quite a mouthful. (For Exhibit A, see The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen" at CityWalk.) ;)

We’re being effected by the Disney Spectrum cable issues that’s got ABC off the air for a lot of people. So my mind went to that, wondering why would Disney have issues with CBS, it’s ABC that Disney owns not CBS. 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

It could be the construction company is going to owe liquidated damages before it’s done. But maybe there were changes that affected construction too.

That's true. Good product placement, tagline, and promotion will have to do some heavy lifting to make this location successful.

Walked past it today and heard work going on, but it’s really just a shell of a building at this point.

We are going end of Jan beginning of Feb 2024, I'm guessing it won't be open yet. Very disappointed, I had expected to be able to visit this year during the same time frame but of course we all know that didn't happen. This is a minus to the area, one less dinning option available to guests stay in this area.

We returned from BWV on 10/6/23 and I can tell you--it was two men and a truck working on that building. I didn't notice much difference in the completion from our trip in May through 10/6/23. Slow going and not a great deal of work being performed. I am exceptionally skeptical about anything as early as February 2024. Not that I care--I was more an ESPN fan and this addition is not my cup of tea or slice of cake. :sad1:

I actually took a photo of it on 10/6. I saw it today too. Didn’t look any different.
