Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

Agreed on the prices being outrageous.

But fwiw she uses Valrhona and Callebaut for her chocolate cakes, and those are both extremely high end, expensive, and delicious chocolate. I bake quiet a bit and Valrhona is by far my single favorite ingredient.

I’ll go once for the cake but nothing else.

They may not care at the Disney location if it is a one and done for many people as there will always be new guests in the pipeline. So long as they don’t get negative feedback on the service and the food gets decent reviews other than the price, they may do better than we think. I do think that the GF or even the Four Seasons might have been a better choice for the restaurant at those prices.
Beach Club is as expensive (or more expensive) than GF and Poly most of the time I’m booking it. Between BC/BW and being an easy walk from the International Gateway (and skyliner from RIV) they will have a lot of traffic. I do agree that thematically it would fit better at GF.

It is insulting to guests and Disney should be ashamed, as well as the owner.

For example, the items are cheaper at the other 2 locations. Example:

Lemon Caesar Salade: 18 dollars the other 2 locations

Disney Boardwalk: 26 dollars!

44 percent increase from the other locations. That is what they think of us

Shame.

We also don’t know what her rent is at WDW but I just took a quick look at the retail costs at some local bakeries and chuckled. I’ll bring a L’Opera cake from here down to WDW in a cooler. It’ll solve my Christmas dessert need.

My husband only gets the burger/fries and the pb pie. He says the burger is just a burger but the pie is very good. I’ve tasted the pb pie and tastes like the one I make at home. He likes the chocolate chip cookies but I think they are bad for 6.00 a piece.

The older I get, the more I agree with my mom: there's no point in buying cookies, cakes, pies, etc. because you can make better ones at home!

Now if they were offering something crazy like that Monet's green cake from the Great British Baking Show, I might be tempted to save myself the trouble . . . but right now, with these prices, it's a pass from me.

:teacher: For every person saying it's too expensive and they aren't going there will likely be six people waiting online to snag an ADR. Not everything is for everyone. I think this will be popular.

I looked at the menu, and yes the prices are high compared to what I would normally pay somewhere besides Disney. But I think the prices will work just fine there, and I could see locals making it a special lunch day. Consider $60 for cafeteria quality food at Chef Mickeys but everyone says they are paying for the character experience. Okay, so some folks would rather get nicer food in a beautifully themed restaurant for about the same cost if they get dessert. If I had to pick one hands down I'm going to the CBS.

I looked at photos of similar menu items at Disney restaurants and CBS, and CBS looks more appealing with some bigger portions and a beautiful atmosphere. Disney overall doesn't have great food, but they have no problem filling ADRs even with inflated prices. Even places like Space 220 are offering mediocre food for crazy prices but you struggle to get an ADR. I think I can eat better for likely less at CBS just a few minute walk away.

CBS will likely also be used for some of the bachelorette, wedding and special events. They offer Afternoon Teas and have a large bakery ~ something that I think will be popular especially if they offer a delivery service on property. The business model can probably have multiple offerings that will keep it very busy. And with the large facility they have built in the area, they can sell to local customers and businesses from there.

And I think it fits very well with the design and look of the Boardwalk Inn and area. Has that "Mary Poppins" look to it. And as someone who grew up on the boardwalk .... Disney didn't really pull that off very well so I just enjoy it as more of a seaside inn, early 20th century look. The CBS does that too.

I'm reading all the comments here, and this place seriously seems like it could fail before it even opens. Yet, it is in WDW and has a great location, so she could scrape out a profit here and keep the shop running.
I have some thoughts, however,
Yes, when it first opens, the place will be a mob scene. Every influencer will have their danged iPhones and GoPro's filming every nook and cranny of the place. We'll get "reviews" of "every item on the menu." And the tourists, myself included, will initially be interested/intrigued/curious about the place, so we'll give it a shot.

But here are some of the problems:
1. The Boardwalk does NOT allow for tourist/guest/local parking without a reservation at the hotel or a specific restaurant. This has caused a reduction in foot traffic on the Boardwalk and wouldn't be good for business.
2. The Boardwalk is predominantly DVC villas - meaning lots of returning guests who have intimate knowledge of the bargains around WDW; they also have their own kitchens to cover meals as needed. Anyone on a budget ain't heading to the CBS.
3. The options around the Boardwalk abound. The Boardwalk "Deli" (aka Bakery) is literally feet away, Epcot is a short walk away. Never mind the 5 other resorts within a short walk...
4. The post-covid travel boom is over. People who hadn't traveled in a long time have now done so, and many have gone over budget. The numbers at WDW are (statistically however) down. This can't bode well for the long-term bottom line here.
5. The prices at CBS are borderline ridiculous. This fact alone will turn people off. The food better be insanely high quality or the internet has a habit of ruining reputations in a rather quick manner.
6. CBS is taking the space of a former HUGE SPORTS BAR. Folks are used to the more casual atmosphere of ESPN. Now we have a more "formal" cake shop? For 1 mimosa, someone used to get a pitcher of beer.

It may seem like I'm really down on the place. Maybe a little. In truth I want it to be good. I want it to be really good. I spend a lot of my vacation time at the Boardwalk.
But the reality is that they're forcing a high priced "niche" shop into a well-established area. The Boardwalk only really gets busy at night around dinner time to just prior to park closing. And it's mostly families. I'm not sure the CBS is really in the right place and the right market.

I find the outrage over prices hilarious. People spend huge amounts of money on grossly overpriced Disney hotel rooms, overpriced food is just part of the deal. I never bake at home because I would have to eat it all myself, so I am looking forward to trying a slice of cake or afternoon tea service.

I don't see the DDP logo on the menu. Posters in the dining plan subforum won't be happy.

Right now Disney site says "Dining Plan Meals not Accepted". Not surprised at this point. Third party restaurants are the last to negotiate with Disney for DDP and it usually happens towards end of the year. IF they do accept it my guess is it might not happen until 2025. Looking at their menu I could see where it might be one of the complicated ones ... like it might mean sharing - I think the dessert at Rainforest Cafe, Volcano, requires 4 credits.

We will be at the BW in two weeks (Lord willing... genuinely praying for all in the path of yet another hurricane)... I was a hard no on this Cake Bake Shop but now I want to go!!! lol

This right here says it all for me anyway...

Outside of the soda prices and the kids meal prices I am not really that outraged. $7 for a coconut latte is a bargain!! For goodness sakes I am looking at a bill of $450 to take my family to eat bratwurst and pork schnitzel at Biergarten, add some beer in there are we will be over $500. The classic cocktail prices are on point with other bars in WDW. Most of the prices are comparable to any nice restaurant in Southern California and I have to pay $15 to park and fight crowds to eat at any of those places.

$23 for a Mimosa? $10 for hot chocolate My favorite- $18 children’s Buttered Noodles. I’m dying. I knew they’d be crazy high and I would not be their target clientele but LOL. Do they have their own cows for in-house butter or something? And I’m marveling that they somehow made Disney booze look cheap…
