Caffeine and Dehydration

I was listening to the "Beat the Heat" segment today, and just wanted to add a point of clarification regarding caffeine and dehydration.

It is true that caffeine has a diuretic effect. Not to be too indelicate, this means that you would urinate more after drinking them, which could increase your risk of becoming dehydrated.

However, recent research shows that this is not true and that caffeine only has a diuretic effect if you consume large amounts of it — more than 500 to 600 milligrams (or 4 to 7 cups of coffee) a day.

Water will always be your best bet, but hydrating is still more important that necessarily worrying about the caffeine content.
