Cafe Orleans or Blue Bayou?

We are going in June and I think Blue Bayou looks good....those of you expert on DL...which would you choose?

:confused3:confused3

Both restaurants are very good & serve the same style of food. The Blue Bayou offers a special ambiance sitting at the beginning of the POTC. Dim lighting, firefly's & "bayou" noises accompany a wonderful meal. The Cafe Orlean's has nice seating outside on their patio, where you can people watch & enjoy the fresh air (they also have seating indoors, but not very many tables).

The thing I would suggest is to look at both menus at Allears.net & decide what sounds good & also look at the prices. There's a pretty big price difference between the two restaurants.

We have done Blue Bayou once (just hubby & I) & have taken the whole family to Cafe Orleans a few times.

I don't think you can go wrong with either restaurant!!

Blue Bayou has a slightly nicer/more formal ambiance. If you request it when you get there and are willing to wait you can get a table next to the POTC attraction and watch boats go buy.

Cafe Orleans is great, and on many days the outdoor seating is wonderful.

They both have similar styled menus, but BB tends to be more expensive. I would choose based on which menu items appeal to you because they are both great places to dine.

I've ate at Blue Bayou once, it was a good experience. However, we make it a point every time we visit Disneyland to eat at Cafe Orleans. The fries are a must! Either way you wont be disappointed.

We used to go to Blue Bayou everytime we went to DLR but they changed their menu and raised their prices through the roof and we haven't been back since.

Cafe Orleans serves Monte Cristo sandwiches (DH's favorite menu item from ye olde Blue Bayou daze) so we go there. Outside dining was chilly when we were at Cafe Orleans in January so we had hot chocolate and it was marvelous.

Bluie Bayou continues to be "the" place for dinner at DLR but it's so much easier to get a table at Cafe Orleans.

We do both, one at the beginning of the trip and one at the end, plus na squeeze into Club 33 if possible. We love all 3 so it it is hard to make a choice.

The Dobies prefer Cafe Orleans, because it costs less and we can sit outside and watch all the happy people come by.

My vote is for Cafe' Orleans. We love sitting outside, it is a little more family friendly, and we find more of a selection of food that we enjoy there! I agree with the PPs - check out the menus that they linked and see if the options or prices sway you a certain way. Maybe you'll see something that influences your decision, or you could always do both! :thumbsup2

We used to eat at BB, but when they raised the prices, we started going to CO. We love it there. Last trip we did go to BB for my DD 5th Birthday...she asked and of course we could not resist. Cost us about $150 for the five of us. But it was worth it for her princess:

is the montecristo at both?

Blue Bayou only has them for lunch. Cafe Orleans for both lunch and dinner. We ate at both in November, and I had the monte cristo at both locations and I thought they tasted the same. Just like I remembered. Yum!!

Yes, but how they are prepared and served varies. Check those links posted above to see the menus, check not just dinner but the lunch menus too.

They are prepared the same (BB and CO share a kitchen) but they are served differently. The BB version comes with choice of gumbo or salad, "signature" potatoes (au gratin-esque), and veggies. The CO version just comes with a couple of grapes on the plate ;) There is a price difference accounting for the extra sides you get at BB, so if you just want to have the sandwich, CO is your best bet.

As far as the OP's question - if you have never done BB, it's worth doing once to form your own opinion. I have done BB and found it to be overpriced and my server was not very friendly, whereas my service at CO was great and the food less expensive (and yummier in my opinion). Everyone has different preferences though, so you should try both ;)

Prepared differently because at BB they make it with meat. At CO with meat or with cheese.

If you've never done Blue Bayou... you gotta do it at least once, after that it's Cafe Orleans all the way!

Just my 2 cents.

CO is now a must for us. BB is a great experience, but the food was not as good the last 2 times we ate there.

As it is our first trip to DL together (DH and I), we will try BB and perhaps CO for lunch.

At WDW, it is easy to get a lunch walk up, but not so much at dinner...is it the same at DL for CO?

Thanks again!

(Mickey Beignets are a MUST TRY!!!)

Good call. BB is by far the better experience, IMO.

I would advise making an ADR for the BB. I haven't tried a walk-up there in years. DLR has a lot less table service options than WDW, and BB is one of the more popular restaurants on-site, so I wouldn't risk it.

To make an ADR call (714) 781-DINE.

Thanks! I will call to make ADR's tomorrow. Do I need one for LUNCH at CO as well???

I would like to say you shouldn't need one, but that's based on my experience. I've only eaten at the CO a handful of times in recent years (I don't enjoy it as much as some of the other DISers do) and I never had an ADR. But if you're calling Disney anyway, I would make one just to be safe!
