Hi, wondering what the experience is of using a cab either on Tortola or St. Thomas?

1. Is it like how it is at the Grand Cayman where they will be just waiting at the port after you get off the ship?

2. Do you have wait until it "fills up" like with how they do it at Grand Cayman?

3. Final question - could you share the cost of your trip if you took one? Assume they take the American $? I know it varies by destination.

We are going from Road Town to West End and back in Tortola
We are going to Red Hook Harbor (10km) from Char. Amalie port in St. Thomas

Thanks for any experience you may have!

Just back from Fantasy Eastern Caribbean on our first Disney cruise. I was concerned about this too but it ended up being super easy! In Tortola, when we got off the ship there were lines on the pier for those who had booked with Disney to go to the open-air taxis. We bypassed those and walked off the pier to find a taxi. There's construction going on there so you can only go two ways that end up out where the vehicles are waiting. Someone with a radio (a dispatcher) was waiting getting people to taxis. I just let him know where we were going and how many people and he signaled a driver to come over. We were going to Dolphin Discovery and it was $5 pp. In St. Thomas, it worked very similar to Tortola. A dispatcher was there at the exit. He worked out a price for me before I even could say anything and told me $10 pp and didn't charge us for my DGD4. In both places they were checking with people as they walked by to see if you needed a taxi. At our excursion, Ecotour kayaking and snorkeling, they called a cab for me and they were there in less than 10 minutes. In fact we weren't quite ready when the taxi arrived. And I can't recommend the VI Ecotour kayak trip enough! Couldn't book through Disney with DGD's age. Our guide, Sean, was great and informative and so very patient with us. Our 4 yr old had never snorkeled and she took to it immediately! Have a great trip!

Very easy to get a cab in St. Thomas, the prices were a fix rate and the they can drop you off and willing to pick you back up. Have a plan if going on your own.

Thank you both! this is comforting to know that the taxis are all at the port, I have read that they are easy to get so glad to see it is accessible as they say....

Seems like Road town to Ft. Recovery is $10pp if 4 people are traveling so I am going to budget $40 plus tip...

I have to research costs from Charlotte Amalie to Red Hook, we have a private half day charter with Island Wilson adventure on St. Thomas, surprising my husband, after 2 feet of snow this week, I cannot wait!
