Hi all

Travelling from Australia next year with 2 kids who will be 3yrs 10months and 15 months at time of travel.

If we choose to us a cab around the area for any reason maybe home from downtown or to a local grocery store will the kids be able to go without car seats???

I KNOW it is safer to have them but we wont have any with us at all until much later in our trip when we have a rental car.

I vegas they allowed us to have our then 10 month old on our lap...... any similar rules in orlando?

I'm not sure about going without car seats, but you can ask bell service to call in for a cab that has car seats.

By law, your kids will be required to be in a car seat:

http://www.dmv.org/fl-florida/safety-laws.php#Florida-Child-Car-Seat-Laws

Florida Child Car Seat Laws
It is the responsibility of the supervising adult to ensure that any child under 5 years old is seated in a federally-approved child car seat. Failure to do so could result in a $60 fine and 3 points against your driver’s license.

Use the following car seat guidelines from the FLHSMV while driving with a child in your vehicle.

Birth–1 year old
Use a rear-facing child car seat.
1 year old–3 years old
Use a rear-facing child car seat until they outgrow the weight and height limit of the child car seat.
Normally when children are over 1 year old and weigh over 20 pounds, you can switch to a forward-facing car seat.
4 years old–7 years old
Use a forward-facing child seat until they reach the weight and height limits recommended by the manufacturer.
8 years old–12 years old
Use a booster seat in the back seat until your child is big enough to use the car’s seat belt.
Never put your child in a child car seat in the front of a vehicle with a passenger air bag. It is always safest for your child to ride in the back seat
.

What I'm unsure of is whether these laws pertain to Taxi cabs or not.

Given that there was a fatal accident on Disney property yesterday involving a car and a Magical Express bus, I wouldn't risk it. (Sadly the driver of the car died, no severe injuries on the ME)

Have Garden Grocer deliver groceries to your hotel. Or hire a private car service that will bring a vehicle equipped with car seats.

The law in Florida - like in certain other states (like NY where we live)- is that taxis are exempt from the mandatory car seat law. We took our then 22 month old in a taxi from the airport - it was actually a town car, but same rules - no car seat needed. On the next trip (34 months), we took a taxi from dolphin to mk. In both cases, we used a seat belt and had my arm in front of him, but yes, I recognize not technically the safest choice.
