I had everything, in fact I still have the dishes on my roof and backyard, I had a big C-band satelite dish , and I had dishnetwork.
First of all I hate not having local channels for weather related issues, school cancellations and delays which we have a lot here in the winter. Finally when dishnetwork would not allow me to get the local package of networks because according to them I could get them with a roof antena, yes I could, until 9/11/2001, our repeater station was on top of the WTC, after that we could only get Philly stations which did not help us.
Our cable bill is $65 a month for basic cable ( @ 70 channels ) and for my cable internet. We have 4 TV's hooked up and 2 computers. When I had dishnetwork , I was paying twice as much. And yes, if the equipment goes bad, you have to pay for the guy to come out AND the equipment, their warranty is not that great.
You also need a receiver for each TV , and pay additional for them a month too.
I know it wasn't worth it for me. I guess it all depends on what you want.
