Cabins near stairs or laundry room

Will be cruising the Magic next year and our cabin is currently 2 doors down from the laundry room. There's also a cabin available just to the right of the stairs so it's further away from the elevators. I was wondering how the cabins are that are near the stairs/laundry rooms. Before I make a change to our stateroom, can anyone share their experience (good, bad, indifferent) with being near either the stairs or the laundry room? Thanks for your help.

We were near the laundry on The Dream we didn't have an issue other than it was handy to do the washing! Can't comment about the stairs and it was a different ship. But I would stay near the laundry again no issue.

I don't really understand this statement. The stairs and the elevators share a lobby, so if you're close to one, you're close to the other.

But, anyway, we've been in rooms right next to the elevator/stair lobby and there's been really no more noise issue than you'd find in any hotel situation. You're going to hear people walking down the passageway, if they're loud. Even if you have a room between the elevator lobbies, people are going to be walking down that passageway.

We've not been right next to the laundry by close, and I'd opt for a room not closer than 3 or 4 doors away. It can get to be quite a line/gabfest there on occasion. And right next to it the temperature can be warmer than a bit further away.

Thanks. What I meant is if you look at the deck plans you'll see the elevators on one side and the stairs on the other side. The cabin is 2 doors down from the stairs on the deck plans going away from the direction of the elevators. So it's further away from the elevators.

Well, there's only about 6-8 feet difference. This is one of the elevator lobbies on the Magic:

On stateroom decks that wall directly opposite is open to the passageway with the rooms.

Thanks for the picture. My thinking is the further you are away from the elevator lobby, the less noise you'll have from groups congregating there while waiting for an elevator and the less you'll hear the elevator chime when it arrives. Even though it's only 6-8 feet away, that's 6-8 feet further away from the lobby. Being behind the cabin walls will block a bit more of the noise too so sometimes that little bit of distance is all it takes for peace and quiet. I know that no matter where you are on the ship you'll have noise in the passageway but it's usually brief as the people walk by, whereas people are in the elevator lobby a little longer waiting on an elevator to arrive. Plus, people tend to wait for others in their party there and meet up in the elevator lobby. Thanks again for your help. I think I'll definitely move away from the laundry room. I was worried it might make the stateroom a little more hot or humid. Guess I'll never know :).

We were in 2116 on the Wonder 8/8/16 cruise, just outside the aft elevator lobby. Really no issues. Didn't hear the elevator noises at all, no dings or anything in the room. We did hear people talking as they walked into our hallway to get to their rooms a couple of nights, but it had nothing to do with being near the elevator.

I'd also say it depends on which stairs/elevator you're talking about (and which floor). I don't think I'd want to be more aft than we were on deck 2 as we could feel the thrusters a bit when they used them--but could REALLY feel them in the deck 3 aft restaurant.

I think stairs can be ok, but there are differen situations. I have been pretty much exactly where you are proposing, but it was Deck 8 forward on the Wonder, but that is a place where no one goes unless they have a reason. I had the first room directly underneath the staircase on Deck 1 midship on the Wonder (which we actually quite enjoyed) but once again, there's no reason for anyone to use that hallway as a walkway.

We've been across from the elevator lobby, a couple of doors down from the stairs and all the way aft near the back stairs and never had a problem. Heck, we've had more problems midship with kids running up and down the halls all hours of the night LOL

On our last cruise our room shared a wall with the laundry room and we had not problems. But my DS or myself are not light sleepers so them may make a difference. Good luck with your chaise and enjoy your cruise.

We've been across from a laundry room a couple of times. Noise wasn't a factor BUT our staterooms were always HOT. I wonder if the heat from the dryers leak into the rooms. We won't book a room close anymore for that very reason.

On the Magic, we have stayed in 7104 which is 2 doors down from the elevators / stairs. It was a convenient location to the aft stairs to get to Cabanas and the aft restaurants. I didn't find it to be any noisier than any other room an I am a light sleeper. Kids running down the halls and loud talkers are more of a problem than being close to the elevators.

We have also stayed in 7594 on Magic. This room is 3 doors down from the laundry. It was very convenient to do laundry since it was a 12 night cruise. The laundry room was very busy throughout the cruise - sometimes we would walk by and there would be more people than machines in there! We did not hear or smell anything in our room, but I would not have wanted to be the room directly across We were probably 20 - 25 feet down the hall. I can't speak for the room being warmer than others since it was a Northern Europe cruise, we did not need A/C.

I would book either of these rooms again.

I would prefer to be near the elevator rather than the laundry. It was fairly warm every time I walked past there and it also smells strongly of laundry detergent/dryer sheets. I'm extremely sensitive to smells and it really bothered me. For most people, this isn't an issue, but just in case this is you, be aware of this.

We were a few cabins away from the elevator/stair lobby on deck 2 on our recent Wonder cruise and it was, for the most part very quiet. The only issues we had were a few occasions where some tweens from Edge spilled out into the lobby late at night and were VERY loud. I mean, crazy loud. I finally tromped down there in my PJs at 11 PM on the third night it happened calmly but sternly told them they either need to go into the club or to a public space because they were very loud. They had the decency to look a little sheepish (though, nobody offered any apology) and left and I never heard another peep from them again the rest of the cruise, but I hope that they move Edge like they did on the Magic before we sail again on the Wonder because I really liked the room otherwise, but tweens aren't always very aware of their noise level. (I wonder if that is part of the reason it moved locations on the Magic.)

I agree with the previous posters about the heat coming from the laundry room. On one of our cruises, the laundry room had a leak and there were fans in the passageway to dry the floor.

We've been a couple of doors down from the laundry on the opposite side of the hallway and didn't notice any particular noise or issues. We've had rooms just down from the elevator lobby and once at the opening of the elevator lobby and didn't find it noisy at all.

We have had several rooms right off the elevator/stairs and haven't had any issues.
We prefer that section of the ship.

We had no issues being near the laundry room on the Fantasy on deck 9. When we were by the midship elevators on Deck to on the Wonder it could be noisy from all the unruly kids who opted to spend the 2 week long WBPC screwing around in stairwells and elevators instead of in the kids clubs.
