Cabins getting run down

Does anyone else who stays in the cabins frequently feel its time for a remodel or maybe even new cabins? We've always rented them and in the past 12months we've stayed their 4xs. (annual passholder). Anyway, I've noticed no matter the loop the little things are looking a little shabby. Every time we've stayed in one theres been at least one window treatment hanging off the hardware. This time our cabin was VERY clean, however again a window treatment hanging off its hooks (I fixed it). Then problems with appliances. The dining room table hand writing on it and the out side electrical wasn't working at all. (Yes, I called engineering.) Other things, I noticed the back door wouldn't even completely close. Noticed especially in the bathroom around the tub bottom the caulking looked REALLY bad. I've seen these same things on previous visits in different cabins. Anyway, I noticed most of the hotels are constantly getting renovated and it seems like its been YEARS since we've seen any loop re-dos in the cabin loops.

It probably has been a long time since they were rehabed. For whatever reason things at FW seem to be ignored for a while(even Disney sometimes treats the campground as a second class resort). Keep writing letters to Disney and maybe they will get the point but it may take time. We stayed for 2wk last summer in a camping loop, my dad said there were no shower curtains in the mens bath, he called everyday and it still took almost a week before it was fixed.

Now I am alittle worried. We are staying at the cabins August 21-31. The last time we stayed in the cabins was about 2 1/2 yrs ago and we had no problems. I sure hope everything is okay this time. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a clean and well maintained cabin.

we just got back from our first stay and had no problems

YOu might want to write to Disney and let them know that you are a frequent guest who has had problems with the cabins. Whenever I have somthing good or bad happen with Disney I contact them though the link on the disneyworld.com website and let them know. Most times I get a phone call, although it can take a while.

Earlier this year I wrote to complain about the campsites being left out of promotions (in this case, free ticket upgrade to hoppers & plusses). They called to tell me that the campsites are too popular to need promos.

Recently I wrote to let them know about some of the great CMs we encountered on our trip (I keep a list) and also to let them know our feelings about staying at FW (good and bad). I got a call last week thanking me for my message, letting me know that the CMs will have my comments added to their personnel files, and that my FW comments will be passed on to the appropriate people.

It can't hurt to write and let them know about it.

Don't be worried!

Last June we stayed there and I did feel it was getting a bit run down. I did email my concerns... I actually told them that something needed repair went back in Nov. and noticed it had been fixed!! Just got back a couple weeks ago and had NO issues what so ever! Everyting was in working order. The grounds were clean.

OP should email their concerns... I feel Disney listens!!!

I agree don't worry too much. It was just as a regular that I know how the cabins should be. (I have a feeling the cabins are getting more wear and tear than they should coz alot of families put down 2 people then gawd knows how many peeps are REALLY bunking in. ) Plus, I know in general the higher priced hotels at WDW usually are kept top notch, so I kind of feel they should keep the cabins in A-1 condition considering they aren't cheap to rent.
I know you always get a postcard to sign up for a detailed survey usually a week after your trip, so I am watching for that.
On a post. note I feel the cabins were much cleaner this visit than last visit. Last visit they weren't that clean when it comes to details. Like you could tell the front of the stove had not been cleaned coz you could see all these kids handprints all over it. I know the next week a friend of mine came back to her cabin and the maid was actually in there eating some of her leftover food. :rotfl2: She ignored that situation with the maid but anyway, when the survery's came we mentioned we noticed the house keeping had dropped off. At that time too we noticed they didn't have the usual amount of help however this time there were full crews again.

Yeah, I agree that they are a little run down. It wont stop me from returning though and they always fix everything pretty fast if you call it in. I would love to retire to the Fort.... :p

Although we do the surveys too, I feel better sending an email because I KNOW someone who works for Disney is reading them. Probably the surveys are through an outside market research firm. I often hear of people being contacted after reaching out through the website, but rarely (at all??) after submitting a survey.

I stayed in the 2600 loop of the Fort Wilderness Cabins for 9 nights in January 2006, and I found my cabin to be in fine shape. It was clean, and no hint of threadbare. It was in great shape. I strongly dislike staying in run-down places, and my cabin was not. My cabin was wonderful. The batteries in the TV remote were dead, that's all.

I also stayed in loop 2100 of the Ft W Cabins for a week in Jan 05 and found that cabin in great shape. A light bulb was burned out, that's all.

In both cases, zero bugs inside the cabin.

Others may have different experiences, but mine were fine.

We go fairly often and usually if something is wrong like a clogged tub or broken lights I call maintenance and they are there on the same day. We will be staying at the cabins in Sept can't wait! :sunny:

just got back from fw cabins. I thought the cabins(we had 3 of them) were in good shape.our fridge had some rust on the side but the rest was ok. the bedding seemed old and I would love to see some better themed bedding anyway. we had a great time, so those things were small.

:confused3 I was never trying to nitpick, however unless you're getting the cabins at rock bottom price we deserve to have well maintained cabin. I have NEVER stayed in any of the higher grade disney hotels where I have to call maintenance soon as I arrive. I mean I definately stay at the cabins again in a heart beat, but I just hope they don't continue to let them decline before they do repairs.
I would much rather the staff make sure theres a remote control with WORKING batteries or that the fridge is making ice rather than have a cute towel puppet made.

I forgot to mention housekeeping. We only had them clean 3 times during our 7 night stay to help out, even though we did request towels. For one they came so late.(after 3 or 4 when we werre usually relaxing) Our sheets were never changed the entire week. and when they did clean they didnt do a very good job. They would nt leave the most important items(dishwasher soap, dish towels, soap in the bathrooms. I was glad I didnt make up mousekeeping envolopes. There was no extras in the housekeeping dept. I really like FW and the cabins, but for the money, we payed rack rates. (ouch) I think they need to pay more attention to them, and how they are serviced.

Whoa....I'm going to the cabins in July, and now I'm a little worried about what I'm going to find. I've stayed at CB and ASM before, and the housekeeping was awesome, and to tell you the truth, the reason I stay in Disney is because of the outstanding rooms, and the attention you receive from the staff. I hope I don't regret staying at the cabins if they're substandard, considering the price I've paid for it. I didn't want to stay off site because I knew, for sure, that Disney is so well kept. Now I'm not so sure. Sheets not changed for a week? What's up with that? :confused3

Don't worry too much, overall the cabins are nice. If your sheets are not changed all you have to do is ask the maid and she will do it. The people in FW are very nice. You will see this as soon as you check in. You will have a great time at FW. Have fun! :sunny:

We stayed at the Beach Club Villas the year they opened and had to call for the sliding door lock to be fixed as soon as we got there. With an almost 2 year old, we didn't want any safety hazards.

There are problems at deluxe resorts too. :)
