I'd just like to hear people's opinions about the cabins at Ft Wilderness. I used to camp all the time when I was younger and I miss it. But I love my Disney vacations so I'm thinking of staying in the cabins and would love to hear all about the cabins and campground.

Look for the "Camping at WDW" section here on the DIS boards.
You will find all the advice and opinions you could want, and more!

Happy Planning!:woohoo:

I love the cabins. One of the major perks over it than the other resorts is since your in a cabin, there is no noisy neighbor to have their conversation be the soundtrack to your night. It's spacious which is an advantage to larger families or the claustrophobic type. There's a kitchen with a full sized refridgerator, stove and dishwasher(they give you all sorts of pots, plates, utensils, etc.). There's even a little grill outside and a picnic bench if you want to enjoy an outdoor meal(and cooking at the cabin saves you money on food).
The activities are lots of fun, including horse-drawn carriage rides, an arcade, petting area, and campfires with chip and dale that include and outdoor movie.
I know I've posted before about my opinion on the cabins, but I can't say enough good things about them! If I could, I would move into one.

Stayed in the cabins a few years back and loved it. We were four adults and one kid and we were comfortable. Loved having the big stove and oven and the grill outside.

It's so peaceful that several times I forgot we were in Disney World. You're just a boat ride away from Magic Kingdom and the buses are pretty quick for a place so sprawling. And like the previous poster mentioned, there's so much there at Fort Wilderness to keep you occupied. If you're driving, try to figure out a way to bring bikes to explore the campground.

We plan on staying there again one day. I would highly recommend it, especially if you like the feel of camping.

My family love love loves Fort Wilderness! We have camped and have stayed in the cabins (old and new). We love all the room, the privacy, and the quiet. The kids had the bedroom and my husband and I slept on the murphy bed. The beds were all very comfortable. Liked having the full sized kitchen. We haven't stayed since they re-did the pool. That was the only drawback, but now the main pool has a water slide. There is so much to do at the campground that there were days we never left and went into the parks. Hopefully, you and your family will enjoy it just as much.

My parent's shared a cabin with friends when they went this past Feb. They were worried because usually they just pull their own TT down to stay at the Fort. But they were pleasently surprised by how much they enjoyed their stay in the cabins. You should visit the camping boards. You can get lots of helpful info there. Plus, IMHO, the Fort is the BEST place to stay on Disney property!

Thanks everyone, I didn't see a camping section on here, so I'll look a little harder. The other thing I was wondering is if the showers and bathrooms are close by. If we have 6 people, it would be helpful since theres only one bathroom. Also, on the maps I've looked it the restaurants seem very far, are they as far as they look?

Just found the camping section, I was looking for a camping thread in resorts, oh well, I'm headed there now, thanks again.

The comfort stations(bath houses) are only located in camping loops, not in the cabin loops. One loop of cabins in near a camping loop, but most are not.
The bathroom in the cabin is large and you will have another sink in the kitchen for getting ready as well. I think there is a mirror and counter in the bedroom as well. So really if you plan well you should be able to manage without treking to a comfort station.

we stayed in a cabin last september with my ILs. it was a really nice change of pace. we experienced a more laid-back vibe there. and the campfire sing-a-long with chip and dale is a MUST-do!

i was worried that sharing a bathroom would be an issue, but it wasn't a problem at all. and it was nice to have the full kitchen.
