Does anyone have cabin style tent recomendations - Ive been looking at one at Cabellas - as follows:

We are going to be at the fort for two weeks in November and Im not taking our little tent. Sure for 1000 dollars we could stay at POP - but we really want to camp. We want to bring our bikes and such. Cook our own food. Does anyone have experience with a similar style tent - any thoughts you would like to share? Thanks - Whip

I've seen these style tents and they are VERY nice, but frankly you can get a nice cabin style tent in the $300-400 range. Check out http://www.campmor.com and watch the "hot deals" sections. There are some really nice Eureka brand cabins style tents there. How many folks are you planning on putting in your tent? You can have as much fun in a $100 tent as a $1000 tent, just watch the quality. I used the same Gander Mtn tent for 12 years that I paid $199 for (pretty pricey at the time) so I'm not trying to steer you towards a cheap tent..but don't think you need to spend this much unless you plan to use it LOTS! We tent camp 5-6 times a year (even though we have an RV) and I can't see needing this kind of durability unless you do have a small army!

Whatever you purchase, make sure you seam seal it and set it up several times prior to your arrival at the Fort. Why waste Disney time learning! Good luck on whatever you choose and let us know how it turns out for you! :goodvibes

That is a nice looking tent.. We have a Columbia Cougar Flats II tent and love it. It is 15x10 and HUGE.

How many people do you plan on keeping in your tent? A lot of folks here set up their tents along with a screen house for keeping food, chairs, etc. so it's like having a separate kitchen/living room without sacrificing room in your sleeping tent.

Also- for what you might pay for that Cabella's tent you might be able to find a decent used pop-up camper.

Thanks so much for the input - I really, really appreciate it.

We don't have anything to tow a camper with - thats our main problem. We are a family of 4 but I see us camping with a group as big as 8 in the future (grandparents, nieces and nephews - not more kids) - I would like a high quality cabin style tent - one that can withstand a bit of weather (Bad luck in the past) without me having to worry if its going to collapse.

I used to love to camp when I was a kid - but as an adult Ive become a hotel snob - Ive even changed hotels because I heard another guest complain about bugs in their room. So my goal with our camping setup is to make it as comfortable as possible for our 2 week stay - Im even thinking of bringing carpet for the interior of the tent.

We will probably set up a seperate screen room for the kichen area.

This tent will only be used once or twice a year. The rest of our camping trips are over weekends - no need for a big setup.

If anyone has other suggestions - I would be grateful - Whip

Get at least an 8 man for 4 people, but you could probably stretch a 12 man for 8 if you are using an additional screen tent for food storage, etc. Eureka is a good brand! Pop-ups are really nice, but if you are only going to use it 1-2 times a year, don't bother! Be sure your tent is very dry prior to long term storage(we usually use a rubbermaid tote - never go back in the box right!) as i have seen mildew ruin several tents not properly stored. Not a good thing when you are 600 miles away from home and trying to set up for the night! :scared:

Do you think everyone needs to sleep in the same tent as everyone else? Why don't you get another tent similar to the one you already have and just take two tents. That's one huge tent and I doubt you will ever have a need for a wood burning stove in your tent.

We always use two tents for camping, a 4 person for 2 people and a 6 person for 2 to 5 people (kids). These are two cheap tents that have survived some big storms.

We also take a dining canopy with us for the table

When I first saw that tent, I though "Wow! I can set up a permanent residency there!" But then I didn't see any windows...that's a huge factor in my tents. Our current tent has lots of huge windows and I love it! You will need some windows if anyone wants to take an afternoon nap.

Ditto! The Eureka Copper Canyon 1512 is what we have and it's very roomy.

I am not a fan of cabin style tents at all. They tend to leak and the water pools up on the roof. I would suggest a dome tent. Target has a nice assortment.

Here's MHO, got a Eureka tent a couple of years ago after weeks of researching. Coleman tents are a great warm, fuzzy feeling because we are all use to the name, but their quality is very suspect now.
Also, any Eddie Bauer name items, beware.
Finally settled on the Eureka because of feedback, size, 10 X 14, aluminum poles and ease of setup. They aren't cheap, but I was very impressed with the quality.
Here's the one purchased:

You can turn it into 2 rooms, each with it's own entrance, plenty of windows and bathtub sides. Mountain Sports had the best price.

Campmor is an outstanding company, but tend to be a little higher on prices than some. Always had good luck ordering from them though.

You might want to find the thread on this forum called tent setups. Some of them are very impressive and you might get some great ideas from there. I don't think you will have to spend anywhere need $1000 to get everything you need to be very comfort. Nov. is an excellent time to camp in Florida.

Best of luck.:thumbsup2

Ooops, :confused3 one correction, put Campmor rather than Cabela. Campmor is excellent source, Cabela tends to be higher priced.

I own a Eureka and LOVE it! I'm able to set up on my own (5'2 single female) due to the hexagonal and umbrella hub design. My tent sleeps "8" and is considered a "luxury condo tent." Realistically, I can fit a queen size air mattress for 2 adults, a child in a sleeping bag, and basic gear inside. An additional plus is that a person can easily walk upright inside the tent as the cent point rises to 6'7! Here's mine:

and here's the link to Eureka's site Eureka Tents Link

As you can see, they aren't cheap, but the quality cannot be beat!
And you will be very satisfied with your purchase!

OP-
I checked out the Cabelas tent-I love it!

We went to check out the tent at Cabellas today - but it wasn't set up. I appreciate everyones recomendations.
