Cabin Or Rent RV For Christmas

Ok need opinion's What would be better?? Rent an Rv or just stay in one of the cabin's?? 2 adults & 1 child..Never experienced Fort Wilderness before (Always been a Deluxe CL Vacationer It would be a 9 day trip so in terms of $$$$ would there be much difference in the cost of a cabin or renting an RV (Not that the $$$$ is a problem but if there isnt a huge difference would probably go for a cabin)

I would recommend renting an RV.

There are two folks highly recommended in this group that rent RVs for the Fort. They bring the camper to the Fort for you, set it up on your site and break it down and take it away at the end of your stay.

For a large 5th wheel there is www.campatthefort.com and for a popup camper there is www.makecampingeasy.com

Both provide just about everything you will need for a wonderful stay.

The prices for either will be significantly less than a cabin.

In both cases, you will make your own reservations for the actual campsite.

Honestly, if you are accustomed to concierge level I'd be amazed if you will be happy at Fort Wilderness... unless you're thinking of taking up RV'ing, I'd stick to Wilderness Lodge.

I often have this debate when planning. I look at the cost of the site and what level I wanted. Then I add up the "camp at the fort" price" and see what is cheaper. Because I get great discounts with the military and a 40% off with the cabins, they win. But i would be very happy with both. You need to do a gut check to decide if this is what you want to do. And how rustic you want it. My DH hates camping but loves the Fort.

Don't forget to include the nightly site fee to your costs if you choose to rent an RV. It is in addition to the cost of any rental you might choose. Depending on the time of year..you may be looking at close to $100.00 a night for the site fee. Add in the rental..and compare the cost to that of a cabin.
Be aware that the cabins can vary greatly in cost depending on the time of year as well. Cabins often run more than the cost of a room at the WL.
Although, you will have more space.

In any case, FW is a camping resort. Be aware that to reach the main themed pool area, you will likely have to take a bus,golf cart (great fun but an additonal cost), bike or walk. Same for the Meadow or Settlement Trading Post areas. While the cabins offer you more room..they are not (in my opinion) especially convenient to the amenities of the campground. A golf cart rental is always a good option from cabin loops. Figure on another $50.00 a day for a golf cart rental..actually I believe it's more than that now...but you get the idea.

Yes i have thought about this but there is a first time for everything & i would have the dining plan Not the same as CL but well cheaper

And no not thinking about taking up RV'ing just want a change & the Cabins or Rv would be

It's just the 3 of you? You will have plenty of space to spread out in either the cabins or an RV. Our family of 5 (6 if exercise the "grandma" option) fits easily in the cabins.
We love the cabins, but will probably try the RV rental next time to be more in the thick of things at the campground. The campground is amazing at Christmastime. The decorations are so fun for the kids. Some of the cabins are decorated, but since a lot of those vacationers fly in, they don't have access to 10 huge inflatables the way the campers do. You can (and should) rent a golf cart and see the decorations that way, whether you're in a cabin or RV.
There isn't a huge difference in cost, if you get a cabin discount (we got the buy 4 get 3 last Dec and it worked out to be cheaper to rent a cabin). It's cheaper to rent an RV if you look at rack rates. But it really depends on your personal preference. If you want the FULL ON FW experience, rent an RV. If you want to experience FW with more of the comforts of a hotel, rent a cabin.
