I was thinking of trying something different this summer and renting a cabin for ds (9) and I. It appears to be value season but I expected it to be a higher season...is there a reason for this? I have a couple questions...

Will I feel save just the two of us coming back after dark to our cabin?

Are the cabins as equipped as the resorts? Cable, hi speed internet and mousekeeping?

How bad will bugs/mosquitoes be?

Is there anything that i will not absolutely love about it?

Sorry that was 4 questions!!

I love the cabins! Of course, I love anything Disney.. I have only stayed at one other resort, Coronado Springs, for one night (the kids wanted to try out their slide).

Yes, you will fill safe, just you and your son. If you are not going to rent a golf cart for the stay, ask for a cabin at the beginning of the loop, that cuts down on the walking alone at night.

The cabins are as equipped as the resorts, but not really sure on the internet hook up. Someone else needs to address that one.

I don't remember the mosquitoes being really bad, maybe in June, but bring spray anyway!

The only thing we don't love about it is we don't stay in one often enough!

We bring our camper for every visit except the January, when we stay in the cabins. I do stay down there with all 5 young ones by myself and we always feel safe. Look us up in July if you stay, I also have a 9 yo ds! Have a great trip!

The cabins are fun!

We always felt safe, but it does get really dark at night. Ask to be near the bus stop/beginning of the loop and consider keeping a small flashlight in your daypack. You won't need it, but it might make you feel better.

I believe the deluxe resorts are also at value season rates during the summer. We'd better not complain or they might change it!

Have a fun trip!

In my opinion, I have always felt very safe at Fort Wilderness. The Campground has always seemed secure and the people staying there seem to have a commaradarie not found in a regular resort.

They are actually better than a resort room. There is a large kitchen / living room area that has a TV with DVD Player, High Speed Internet Access and daily housekeeping. I love coming home to a clean kitchen.

I hear Disney sprays nightly for mosquitoes. I would still recommend bug spray even for evenings in the parks. But I really haven't had a problem with them.

The fact you'll have to go home.
Fort Wilderness is a big place. You will need to add travel time to go places. You have to board an internal bus to get to another bus stop to get to Epcot, Studios, etc. I don't find this an issue; it is actually one of the many things I love about it. The pools are not overly exciting - just really concrete ponds - so if your son is expecting Yacht Club's Stormalong Bay, he'll be disappointed.

No problem!

you will have no problems at all. They do have lights in the loops, that only if they are working also you can leave your out door light on before you go out for the day.The campground is very safe.

Thanks all for the great feedback...ds and I are really excited and have decided that a cabin in July is the way to go!!
