We will be cruising with our Autistic son 7yrs old (has wondered off out the door middle of night once :scared:). Our first family cruise was when he was 20months so wasn't worried about him wondering off then. We are looking for some tips on making the door so we know if he is trying to leave in the middle of the night but with this in mind. If DH or I want to sleep but the other wants to be able to leave for evening offered activities and come back without waking the other or DS in the room but also have it so we know if DS tries to leave while one of us is out and the other is sleeping. So any ideas? Thanks

You can hang a bell on the door, or use a commercially purchased door alarm. But I can't think of any options to alert someone sleeping that the boy is trying to leave the room, and NOT awaken people if an adult comes in. You could try blockading the hallway so he would need to move (suitcases, desk chair, etc.) to get out, but again someone coming in would need to navigate through that obstacle course as well.

Enjoy your cruise!

They also have travel door alarms, so if someone touches the door handle an alarm will sound. Good luck and have a great trip!
