What has your experience been if you have had one of the verandah cabins at the very back/stern/after of the ship?

I just watched a Do's and Don't's of Cruising and they said DON'T... go figure... already booked it.

Didn't know what people's actual experiences have been, especially higher up (we will be on Deck 9 of the Dream)

TIA

I prefer the staterooms in the middle of the ship.

I also noticed less movement on the lower levels.

I prefer the middle of the ship too, but it didn't give me the option when I booked the cruise.

The show said it had something to do with potentially feeling the anchor (maybe that was for the bow of the boat) and the thrusters (for the back) when coming into port.

I don't know how old the show was, so maybe the newer ships are better at feeling/hearing these kinds of things... :confused3

I was on the far aft of Deck 8 on the Wonder last January, and the motion was no more noticeable than when I've been midship on decks 6 or 7 on previous cruises. I'm sure that varies depending on how rough the seas are, but unless someone in your party is particularly sensitive I wouldn't worry about it. Think of it this way: DCL wouldn't put the restaurants and theaters at the ends of the ship if the motion was really bad.

We were at the verrryyyy back on Deck 6 of the Magic (6154 handicapped accessible verandah room). I loved our location, but you can hear and feel the vibrations of the thrusters. The good thing about it? There was enough noise that it woke me and I was able to see us dock and take pics (first time in 4 cruises). My husband, however, slept through it almost every time. I can see a lot of people thinking it's not a good place for a room, but I'd take it again in a minute - even without the super-huge verandah and room that we had. I guess it's a matter of preference. I don't think we dealt with the vibrations for more than a 1/2 hour at any given time - if it was that long.

We've been in 8602 on the Wonder and loved it. We would pick it again in a heartbeat. We could see port and starboard sides and thought our view was awesome! :)

We too are booked at the front of the ship of the Dream in late February. My question is I hear weather is rough in the Med but we are only doing the 4 day to Nassau and CC can the weather be that bad in February on that route?

We were in 7636 on the Magic (aft cabin).

There was more motion back there than there was in the middle of the ship. The room also vibrated occasionally because of the thrusters.

Let me say, you certainly won't be able to sleep in on any port day.

BUMP!

I am looking into a side/aft room. I hope I don't get sick. I'll bring plenty of dramamine, but I have been known to get queezy on motion rides from time to time. Hope this doesn't affect me.

We were aft deck 9 (room 9760) on the Dream and we loved it! We loved the huge veranda and watching the wake of the ship.

I prefer to avoid mid ship cabins... going for the ship ends to avoid foot traffic outside the doors. Of the ships I've been to, most have the restaurants at the aft part of the boat, so I prefer the front for a quieter room, but a longer walk to the action.

We recently stayed in 7134 Aft on the Magic. We felt absolutely no motion whatsoever and the wife is very sensitive. Our stateroom host who was housed on Deck 1 Forward said the forward is worse for those suffering motion sickness.

However you do hear the Thrusters on port days - this woke us up slightly but not the kids and we soon got back off. I really liked the position of the room and deck and despite the noise I would book it again.

We sailed on the Dream deck 9 aft cabin 9166 which is the second cabin from the rear of the ship (still on the side) and we absolutley loved it!

It was our first cruise and our travel agent had placed a hold on it so we did not know anything about preferences. This location ended up being a dream location for us. We were at the end of the ship, no foot traffic except to the few rooms past ours, few steps from the elevator and stairs that were hardly ever crowded.

Plus only two quick flights of stairs up to deck 11 and you are right in Cabanas and next to the pool deck. Drink stations and Coffee. I often would go up to deck 11 to the drink stations and get my coffee and come back to room as everyone was getting ready for the day.

Forget about movement worries, I walked all over th ship and could not tell the difference with movement. the most movement I felt was our last night in the main theatre which was forward on deck 3 or 4 I think. Plus, you are not really in the room much anyway. Alot of the time the ship is docked anyway. We were on a 4 night crusie and I was surprised at how little the ship sails, what I mean is, after the first night the Dream pretty much just holds position in the water, barely moving. But when you look at how close the islands are it makes sense.

But the convience of having deck 11 just two flights above and then the elevator ride down to the District and reastaurants is priceless. Enjoy this location, you will love it!

I was also very worried about this last cruise being on deck 11forward but to be honest it was nice. rocked us to sleep at night but found the lower decks worse. It's individual but I was good and I'm not good with rough seas and I was good.
Cheers

Yes. I find the roughest weather is the night leaving port canaveral.

We stayed aft on the Dream twice (6th flr, 9th flr) and stayed aft on our recent cruise on another cruise line to Alaska.
We LOVE being aft and chose the aft cabins on the 2nd Dream cruise and the Alaskan cruise.
On the Disney ships, aft elevators were never crowded (but we almost always take the stairs) and there is very little foot traffic. You are right in the buffet restaurant once you get up there and right by the drink station (I would just pop up and get my sodas and back to the room all the time). We love the extra room on the verandah, they were really very big. Plus we had great views of backing into CC and ports. Plus if you are aft and starboard, I think you can see the Pirate night fireworks well from your verandah - we were aft and port on our 2 Dream cruises but could see the fireworks fine from the verandah on the 9th floor (not so much from the 6th floor)
Aft on the Alaskan cruise was also great - great views of all the scenery.
It is true that we could really feel the ship moving on the first nights when the ship was going at a good clip, but it wasn't too bad for us. We stayed midship (without a verandah) on the Magic in the spring and I still could feel the movement but it was a little less.
We would have absolutely booked aft on our upcoming cruise if it was available but it is over Spring Break and we were a little late to the party!
