Cabbage?

Looks like Im stuck cooking New Years dinner (was hoping my mil was going to do the honors). Anyway I have never cooked cabbage from scratch before and I was looking for some good tips. Any and all tips would be most appreciated.

I cooked ham, potatoes and cabbage yesterday. I boiled it all together in a large pot with 2 cans of chicken broth and addtional water to cover the contents. I serve it without the liquid, but with butter and pepper on the cabbage. Funny how both DD went out with friends for dinner DH and I enjoyed it.

DH likes it fried with bacon, but I find it too greasy and to easy to burn.
I like to cook it with just a little water, salt, pepper and butter.

Thanks for the ideas! Rumplemom--Im really the only one in our family that even likes cabbage. I dont care if anyone else in my house eats it--the more for me.
