NO! I am NOT going on the Cabbage Soup Diet! However, I was looking for a cabbage soup recipe and found the links to this diet, which I remember friends going on years ago. The recipe looks tasty to me, actually. It looks as though the carb count would be very low. Any problem with eating this if I am on Atkins? Could I sprinkle some parmesan cheese on top? Thanks for any advice!

What's the recipe? I'll run it through MasterCook for you & get the nutritionals.

I've done this...back when we were eating low fat. The soup isn't bad, really but it is bland. I added tomato juice to mine when I reheated it.

I'm glad I don't have to eat it now. In fact, I could eat it now but I could use meat and fat in it to make it tasty ;)

Cabbage is the one thing I could never bring myself to eat...My mom used to make it all the time and just the smell would make me sick! LOL Of course I would always have to try a piece "just in case" I liked it back then, but never did! :p

There's a veggie soup recipe in the WW starter manual that has worked well for me. Takes a little time to chop all those veggies, but it has 0 points, so it's more than worth it! :Pinkbounc I usually sprinkle a few red pepper flakes in when I add the other seasonings to perk it up a bit.

If it's not already on the WW recipe thread, I'll try to post it later today. In my early months of WW, this was my lunch several times a week -- a bowl of veggie soup, 7 fat-free saltines, and 1 oz. reduced fat Cracker Barrel cheese for a total of 3 points! (The cheese and crackers make you feel fuller for a longer period of time than just the soup. ;))

Well, I went ahead and made it. I used more cabbage and less tomatos and peppers (because that's what I had), addeed some spics and a generous amount of Texas Pete. Then, I pt in raw chicken pieces and cooked until the chicken was done all the way through. It was quite good! Now I have a TON of it left - lunch for as few weeks! :)

It would be really good with corned beef in it too! :)

Here's what MasterCook has to say:

Cabbage Soup Recipe

6 large green onions
2 green peppers
2 cans tomatoes, diced or whole
3 carrots
10 oz. Mushrooms
1 bunch celery
1/2 head cabbage
1 package onion soup mix
2 chicken bouillon cubes, optional
48 oz v-8® vegetable juice, optional
Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, garlic powder, etc.

1. Slice green onions, put in pot and start to sauté with cooking spray.

2. Cut green pepper stem end off and cut in half, take seeds and membrane out. Cut the green pepper into bite size pieces and put in pot.

3. Take the outer leafs layers off the cabbage, cut into bite size pieces, put in pot.

4. Clean carrots cut into bite size pieces, put in pot.

5. Slice mushrooms into thick slices (otherwise they will disappear in the soup), put in pot.

6. If you would like a spicy soup, add a small amount of cayenne pepper (red pepper) now (1/3 teaspoon is quite a bit as the soup will get spicier as it cooks further).

7. You can use beef or chicken bouillon cubes for seasonings. They have all the salt and flavors you will need.

8. Use about 12 cups of water (or 8 cups and the V8 juice), cover and put heat on low. Let soup cook for a long time (two hours works well).

9. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
