Cabanas for dinner?

I didn't realize until a few moments ago that Cabanas changes from a buffet to a table service restaurant for dinner. I am wondering, why a person (or group) would choose to eat dinner there rather than the MDR's? Do you eat there if you missed your dining time? Is it just open ended times for eating, or do you have to stick to your first seating/second seating schedule? Is the menu the same as what it would be in your MDR? Is there a wait to be seated? Just wondering...

Gonna bump this as I'm interested in others opinions. From my bit of research for a possible trip on the Dream next year, I think some people may choose Cabanas for dinner because it feels more casual and you don't have a set time to be ready for.

I think you will be seated just with your party too? Unlike the dining rooms where it's likely you'll be seated with others every night.

Yes, some people do miss their specific dining time and use the buffet for dinner. Others have been on many DCL cruises and just want to change it up a little.

You can go to the buffet anytime during the hours posted for dinner, you are not commited to eating at the same time as your regular seating time.

The menu is composed of selected items from the other MDR menus along with a salad bar and some sort of sliced meat (prime rib, steak, etc).

Don't know about waiting, we've not gotten tired of the MDRs yet :goodvibes

Oh, and the buffet is not open for dinner on the first and last nights of the cruise.

Not totally guaranteed, but I've heard it's rare if they can't accommodate that if you make that request.

I think (though I haven't gone) people go to Cabanas if they feel like they want to be super casual and not worry about the kids, etc in the dining rooms. I think it's just personal preference, because my experience has been that people come to the dining rooms in all different types of attire, and everyone is so good about helping you enjoy your meal with little ones.

I also think just showing up and not having to attend the assigned early or late seating may be a factor--but I wouldn't miss the dining rooms for any night!!

We have planned to go to Cabanas on our cruise in Dec. Oddly we are tired of eating in the MDR, only because we kind of want to eat when we are ready and find the MDR to be too slow. We want to eat more casual and not be confined to eating exactly at the time the MDR is scheduled.

This cruise is our very easy going laid back cruise and that is how we want dinner to be as well. Our plan is to eat MDR 3 nights, Palos, Remeys and 2 nights at Cabannas just trying to mix it up

My DD and I went instead of pirate night in the MDR because we just aren't fans of this.

For each cruise we've been on, we always set aside one night to eat at Cabanas. We usually do second dinner seating in the MDR. For this one night, we'll skip the show and head to Cabanas for Dinner around 6pm, then, while everyone else is either at a show or dinner, we head to the Aquaduck and pool areas for some uncrowded swim time. Last cruise on the Dream I spent about 1.5 hours swimming alone in the adult pool!! Also, it's a great way to break up the Show/Dinner routine every night.
