We stayed at Cabana Bay Beach Resort from April 17-April 21. Just wanted to give a quick review and post pics.
There were four of us staying in a Poolside Family Suite. Myself, DH, DD10, and DM. We chose Cabana Bay for the family suite set up, wanting separate sleeping quarters, but not wanting to pay for two rooms. This was our first ever trip to the Dark Side, so none of us had any previous experience at a Universal hotel (or Park). We are huge WDW fans, and the Polynesian and Beach Club are our favorite resorts, just to give a little background.
First of all, we all loved the theme of the resort. DM was born in the 50's so she especially loved it. We found the grounds to be beautiful, and the amenities were quite nice. DD LOVED the pool. The weather was a little cool when we were trying to use the pool, so she usually was the only one willing to go in. DH LOVED the Jack LaLanne Fitness Center. He actually chose to shower there every day!
The resort buses were incredible. Seems like every time we walked up to a stop, a bus was either waiting for us or just pulling up. We never waited for a bus. The ride to the parks was quick. Not one complaint with the bus.
We ate one meal at the Bayliner Diner. It was delicious! No complaints there.
The room itself was smaller than I imagined. It was comfortable, though, and the large closet was quite nice. I wish there were more drawers in the bedroom. Aside from that, our two biggest dislikes were:
1. The walls are very thin. Soundproofing from outside the room seemed adequate, but we could hear noises at times in the walls. Perhaps from the elevator?
2. There wasn't a fan in the bathroom. Not in the toilet area or the tub area. Not only did we miss having the fan for it's usual purpose, we like to leave the fan on at night in a hotel to drown out noises. Perhaps that would have kept us from hearing the noises that we thought were from the elevator.
Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay and would stay again. A lot of people commented about not getting Unlimited Express with this hotel. That was easy to fix for me, I just purchased it with my tickets. The total cost was very similar to what I would have paid at Royal Pacific, except we had separate sleeping quarters, which was important to us.
I have lots of pics to post as soon as I figure out how...lol!
